The fact that the mother and daughter blame her and not the man that was constantly drugged up and abusive all the time is insanity.
The mother literally was assaulted and the man didn’t even remember it.
I don’t remember her exact words, but didn’t the first wife say she knew he was a bad guy when she met him, but apparently still thought he was perfect for her?
@@itsyoboyb6314 That's cognitive dissonance for you.
What a complete POS beating the mother of his child into a coma.
a coked out clown?
Imagine a feud between Evil Doink and The Undertaker.
If Doink had survived to the Attitude Era, I could even imagine him as part of The Ministry. An Attitude Era Pennywise Doink with Borne in the role? Pretty cool.
That feud would've been amazing if they had the chance.
Evil Doink is just Doink.
Yea it would go something like this 1) Punch punch kick kick 2) Body Slam 3) Whoopi Cushion 4) Taker Sit Up 5) Chokeslam 5) Tombstone 1…2…3…. End Feud 😂
Speak undertake about just imagine if Matt Bourne didn’t do drugs he would stay clean and stay in there with Ruby for a while. He probably don’t look like the joker just like the undertaker did over the years look changed a lot but will never know 😔
One of my all time favorite Solomonster moments was your take on the concussion lawsuit, when you pointed out that he was gone from the WWF “they let him go. They let him go because he was all F*CKED UP ON DRUGS”
Heel Doink vs Hulk Hogan would have been a GREAT program in the early 90s. Who better to stop the evil clown for terrorizing all the little Hulkamaniacs than Hulk Hogan??? Would have been a nice little program to keep Hogan busy and out of the title scene
Or maybe a program for a Saturday nights main event
Nah hulk can only work against giants like he did,
@@popularzbie9761 I mean, Matt Borne is only 1 inch shorter than Randy Savage. It might not have come across because of his legendary charisma and personality, but Randy Savage was actually pretty undersized in that era of WWF. Considering how good those Hogan/Savage matches were, I think Hogan/Doink could have worked just fine
If only this guy could have kept his sh*t together, Matt Bourne's Doink could have been one of the most over heels of all time. It's always possible he could have transitioned well into the Attitude Era with the "Bourne Again" angle, just making Doink getting progressively darker, ala The Joker from The Dark Knight.
The Gimmick would have gotten over way better if Vince called him "Schmucko" the clown.
more fitting for a filthy dirtbag junkie clown.
Beyond Matt Borne, that Heel Doink Gimmick got a lot potential (Waylon Mercy was another one, maybe too much ahead of its time). Heel Doink could've easily a good feud with Taker if the build up was right. They killed it with a faceturn, and went nowhere with Doink 🙄
I think that woman did let matt die but i doubt the drink spike. I think she either wasn't in the right mind and just went back to sleep or she actively let matt lay there and die. I feel bad for his daughter but I think she convinced herself it was like a murder case from tv rather than her being so careless/heartless to just let matt die in bed.
Haven't gotten to that part in the video yet, but (spoils for Breaking Bad if you somehow haven't seen it)
Walt watching Jane die comes to mind
Yeah I don’t really buy the drink spike. Maybe if it wasn’t a dude who was known to abuse those type of drugs his entire life. But it seems more likely to me he took the drugs himself. But it seems clear that she did let him die whether intentional or not. The police report did mention the time of the calls she placed so clearly she didn’t act quickly to try to save him. I could see her calling her friend and being told just let him sleep he’s fine because of his history with drugs and that she went back to bed and then when she woke up and realized he was dead called 911. I think it’d easier with that aspect for the daughter to stretch it to it all being her fault rather than accepting the drugs were him.
Seems Matt Bourn was good at starting fights but not finishing them.
I loved Matt's version of Doink. If he cared as much about wrestling as he did being an addict. Man, That gimmick would have been up there when "Gold Dust" first came out. What a match that could had been!
@@DevoJetBoy8680 That might be true. I am sure he probably did love wrestling. It was in his blood. He still got fired several times tho for his actions. Stop giving him a pass. As for the show, It's no different than Wrestling in and of itself. Promoters always do things for their own interest. The show just exploits that and the business itself. If you don't like the show. That's on you. Don't spoil it for those that do.
Animal was already working in Georgia when Matt Bourne was fired. Barry Darsow was to be Hawk, but he was leaving for Midsouth, which led to Hawk at the suggestion of Animal.
I'm mad we never got evil Doink vs Undertaker.
From the sounds of it besides the rampant drug addiction Borne might have suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder he has alot of the symptoms not to excuse his actions but it would explain aspects of his behaviour.
Also I agree Borne probably did do Connies Moms drugs but Connies timeline is bizarre and her behaviour not calling 911 is odd especially waking up and going back to sleep.
This was a very informative episode of Dark Side of the Ring Doink the clown was awesome Especially as a heel his short Run in ECW in 1994 was awesome the borne again gimmick was great stuff Heel doink was also awesome.
Good dark side episode. But wish they focused more on the doink character
Matt was underrated as a wrestler. His takedowns on bigger guys like Typhoon and chain wrestling with smaller guys in that outfit really made him standout.
I always wanted to see him wrestle a young HBK but they were both heel at that time. I suppose it would've worked tho cuz he did wrestle Bigelow and Owen as a face before he was fired and his style didnt change much. Pretty much a heel doing things to heels now
As always Solomonster great breakdown. Doink was a character for sure and a storyline between him and Hogan would have been good.
I first got into wrestling in the Summer of 1993 I was fascinated by Doink he was such a unique character it sucked when they turned him babyface and then he got fired shortly after. I still remember a episode of WWE Superstars when Jeff Jarrett dressed up as Doink and threw a pie at Dink's face I was so happy thinking Doink was going to be heel again I was so let down when it was JJ.
The fight with Brian Blair was pure comedy. Matt just keep coming back over and over. Like something you’d see in a cartoon. 😂
It’s kind of funny to talk about now, but there’s absolutely nothing funny about a junkie out of his mind coming towards you with malicious intent. Very scary situation tbh
@@juansanchez209 I mean obviously, it’s scary. It’s just funny that he was THAT drugged up and didn’t back down.
It’s like Barney getting tossed out of Moe’s only to immediately show back up
The woke left hate doink.there so predictable.hogan flair now doonk.they wont rest until all the icons are canceled.disgust me
@@MikeSmith-ev3ef What the hell does that have to do with anything?
Loved this episode. But Jesus Christ, what a mess of a human being, even by wrestling standards
Matt Borne was amazing as Doink. No other version could match him. It’s a shame all the outside the ring issues never allowed the character to live up to its full potential.
I used to watch him as Maniac Matt Bourne in Texas, I think. I didn't know until many years later he was Doink.
Evil doink versus the Undertaker
14:02 Hawk was brilliant…it was hawk who came up with the name “Paul bearer”
good review
There's an interview where Bret Hart claimed that during the Doink 93' heel run, they wanted the British Bulldog to feud with him and he said no. B.B didn't want to wrestle Doink because he didn't like the idea of wrestling a clown. Hart said that he tried to talk B.B into it, saying that Doink could be the hottest heel in the company. I have no doubt had Hart not been so busy in the main event, he would of jumped at the opportunity to wrestle Doink.
Bret did wrestle Doink at Summerslam 93
Heel Doink had a lot more rubber on the tires
Never heard the phrase 'Rubber on the Tires' before but it should be a phrase that people use more often.
But he felt he was just spinning his wheels
Jason to answer your question at the beginning of your commentary yes,John Cena Sr. still manages in the MA area. He has frequently put in apperances at the baseball field where I used to coach. He's actually a pretty nice guy. I remember one time in particular when he was posing for pictures with the kids and I had taken my 16 year old nephew,Who was 8 at the time, into the ring and I mentioned that due to him being autistic I didn't have any great pictures of my nephew. John's dad immediately handed my nephew the replica belt and stepped over beside him. I still have the picture and it's sort of funny because at one point I overheard a parent I knew telling Cena Sr. that John should marry Nikki,That's how long ago this was.,and he just laughed. I actually looked at him and said,"That's not exactly a tremendous endorsement of the relationship." He laughed and said,"John will never marry her." The show, come to think of it,actually had Doink at it too and I know it wasn't Bourne because he had died at this point but it's sort of funny that we had Doink there.
Great story
Heel Doink with Mankind. Would had been nuts. Heel Doink vs Undertaker. Giving more of a Penny Wise vibe. Would had been dope. He could had pulled it off.
I completely agree with the end. I think that lady at the least is negligent and at the most killed him. But to hear how good of a person he is… he wasn’t even a good dad! But when her mother accepted anything - the daughter did too.
The 1 and only true Doink the Clown Matt Borne!
Imagine heel doink as a mitb winner
His briefcase 😂
I don't think she murdered Matt. They both got high and passed out. She probably woke up, was still high, and passed back out. Then she woke up to find him foaming at the mouth. I'm sure she didn't want to tell the cops she took some of those pills since she could be charged...
John Cena Sr is classy guy
Doink brah.....making kids cry brah!!!!
Doink was literally decades ahead of his own era. Pray for his Soul & for his daughter's temporal spiritual well being.
In those days, I bet more wrestlers were high or messed up in the ring. Not just a matt Bourne problem when Nash happily talks about him and Shawn eating 20 Soma's before a match and wrestling til they couldn't go and that was common place for the time. Think it's a little harsh to dwell on Matt's problem when everybody else around him was doing the same stuff. Not saying he's a saint but the whole locker room was doing stupid shit while high in the 80s and 90s, thats just how it was. More wrestlers like Bourne with substance abuse problems than guys without them especially in wrestling 30+ years ago
It is possible Bourne would of lived much longer. But his girlfriend at the time could of done more to try to save him that day. I feel all the missing pills where not just because of Bourne.
That would make some sense and would better explain her behavior. The way she evidently just went back to bed instead of calling 911 makes more sense if she was pilled up too.
I was at the show with hacksaw and doink in 2010
Easily one of my too 10 gimmicks
cant feel sorry for a man that beat women, but pro wrestling back then was full of bad men, that had mental illness and bad drug habits thats why most of them are now dead its a wonder that flair and hogan are still alive, hogan used so many roids, and flair did a lot of drinking and white powder
Nothing against anyone that portrayed the gimmick of doink the clown in the WWF but even as a heel I hated that gimmick. I always thought it was an embarrassment to the wrestling world.
I remember him in wrestlemania video for super Nintendo
looking at it back i would have really liked a Doink/Hogan Feud in 93. Hogan in 93 wasn't that huge anymore and still easly could have got the win but just seeing Doink scaring all the Hulkamanias would have been great. But neither WM 9 or Kotr 93! Had to been between then, because putting over Yoko was the far bigger end than Hogan beating a Clown for his WWF Run for atleast a decade almost...
People forget if matt bourne didnt screw up in georgia, there would be no road warriors. Ole was going to go with arn anderson and matt bourne as a tag team but drugs messed up that opportunity and Ole went to minnespta and got the road warriors, They left out that story.
I remember when Maddog Buzz and Maniac Matt as World class tag team Champions. They were a great team
Two terrible human beings though
Guy just didn’t seem to give a damn about life. Wrestling was the only thing he was ever good at. Talentless after that
14:57 Yeah evil Doink was good I wish he would’ve got his life straight out. He would’ve gotten far. like the undertaker.
This gimmick would have gotten over way better if Vince called him "Schmucko" the clown a cross
between Krusty the clown and Betelgeuse. Hey Boys and Girls it's Schmucko the Clown!
Doink the clown went I started watching pro wrestling love it The character on its face was laughable unrealistic but Matt Borne was able to take a character that should have been a horrible one into something more still is a horrible character and make the best of it definitely one of the most memorable characters ever in wrestling.
well i think when they say “he was a good guy” I think they are talking about the times when hes sober which were very very short for sure.
This is so incredibly sad. I had to stop listening :( and I’ve never done that with any wrestling video before …
Clowns Are Scary 🤡 😈😳
I might Matt in 2013 at Indy show rip
I saw Doink and Dink at a house show January of 94
I think that Brian Blair fight may have had a little embellishing but it sounds like born was on wet.
I really don’t believe that wrestlemania nine was ever supposed to be headline by hulk hogan versus Doink. D’Oench had not even been around that long before wrestlemania. It would’ve made no sense at all.
13:49
25:22
01:00 murder? are you sure? wasnt the claim that the woman supposedly knew he od'd and was dying, but did nothing for his? not murder. it's disgusting. it's inhuman. it's not murder.
I enjoyed the evil doink
You mentioned Keith Richards and Jake Roberts, another example is Ozzy Osbourne who even said in interviews that he should be dead about a million times for the amount of drugs he did. Really, living that kind of lifestyle, it's like playing Russian Roulette, and more times that not, much like with Matt Bourne, you end up landing on the bullet. Sad but true.
Within the first 4 minutes of the episode, I knew the ex-wife and daughter were going to annoy me. The ex-wife, who left Matt because of the physical abuse and drug use, accused the other ex-wives of only being interested in his money. Clearly that's what Matt told her, but you should be smart enough to understand that if you went through hell with this man and left, that the other women may have done the same. It's like she was blaming the other women for walking away and not enduring the abuse, when she herself ended up walking away. And then the daughter accused his new girlfriend of murder....He was a drug addict who overdosed. Instead of just accepting that, you want to blame other people. Even if you felt like she didn't move fast enough to save his life, he took the drugs. He's accountable. I'm wondering what kind of f'ed up childhood this ex-wife had. She was beaten to the point of hospitalization by this man, then went on camera to defend him and bad mouth all the other women in his life. She claimed she wasn't in it for the money or his fame, but she admits she didn't work with him and that he paid all the bills. I'm also finding it hard to believe that a pretty 21-year-old with her whole life ahead of her would be interested in a 37 year old drug addict with failed marriages and other kids, UNLESS she was swayed by the fact that he was a pro athlete and she wouldn't have to work.
Here we are 30 years later, and they chose the evil Doink to put into their last two video games.
25:26 😂
I am surprised they didn't talk about him being fired for allegedly SAing a minor
Watch the match with Hacksaw . When Matt begged off Hacksaw ignored him Matt is motioning for Hacksaw come to him for the nut shot but it appears that Hacksaw ingored him. Matt when for the nut shot and Hacksaw turned it into a shoot. Watch that match before you start talking bad about Matt. I have had my shit loaded in my car before because I was pressed for time and at the end Hacksaw motions to Matt to the dressing room and Matt’s like screw that and left. I seriously believe Matt was trying to work with Hacksaw .
I think it would of been funny if someone like MJF were the narrator instead of Chris Jericho
Solo, did my ears submit on me or did I hear baby girl kinda sorta put daddy o over da dragon during this? 🤔
Yes, I heard that too 😂
minnesota
They also exaggerated how much money he made, he wasn't a millionaire in 93' like they portrayed. At MOST he had low 6 figures, not bad, but nowhere near a Million!
i remember when doink the clown vs greg hammer valentine 1994 normandy high school. gave me photo ic title to eric 94 greg hammer valentine 5 bucks. 10 bucks in 2014 ix center 10 bucks. would mr. nick nemth charge 5 bucks for 8/10 ic title photo of him self?
Why would he be entitled to residuals? Doink was a WWF trademark. That would be like Adam West telling Warner Bros that they owe him residuals for Michael Keaton’s Batman
Anothertrelifehorrorstoryforsure.
One of the best DSOTR episodes so far.
