Ivory gitlis's version is sad and weeping. Vasa's is happy and noble. One makes you cry and the other makes you smile. Jascha heifetz's is a technical whirl wind. Its amazing how different a piece can sound

I believe that at the time of posting, TH-cam had a time limit. Therefore, it was impossible to fit this performance into one video.

@@treatb09 I actually have all those recordings mentioned below. I like příhoda best, but at thus level it's only personal taste. And saying it's too fast or sloppy etc, as some do is a bit ignorant and arrogant. Milstain plays it differently on his two recordings, I assume that is how he saw it at that moment, not because of some flaw

Fantastic, amazing, incredible intensity. But a little too fast maybe, i'm not sure because this intensity comes also with the speed.... i prefered Milstein in Bach's chaconne but now, i don't know... Prihoda is clearer than Heifetz in my opinion in this piece....
And Bach.... What can we say about Bach....? For music, God was in that body in fact... Listen the chaconne : God creating universe, earth, mountains, seas, flowers, animals, birds, humans, Stradivari, Prihoda... and Bach.....

probably will get slated for this comment, but sounds far too sloppy and undisciplined. i'm by no means a fan of no emotion in playing but here the speed is way to fast and notes are slurred into one another and intonation doesnt sound great

Let's try to look at each one of the violinists in their context. Szeryng or Milstein, fantastic but totally behind of todays expectations. Prihoda belongs to a time where violin playing was more romantic still. About speed and intonation, sorry mate, you talk bs
