  • Eurypharynx pelecanoides, commonly known as the pelican eel, is a deep-sea fish found in the abyssal depths of oceans worldwide. It has a distinctive elongated body, reaching lengths of up to 80 cm (31 inches), with a large mouth resembling that of a pelican, hence its name. The pelican eel is known for its bioluminescent capabilities, emitting light from its tail tip to attract prey in the darkness of the deep sea. Despite its intimidating appearance, it's harmless to humans and primarily feeds on small fish and crustaceans.
