    Requiem
    Michael John Trotta
    English translation by Vaughn Roste
    Matthew Kauffman, Conductor
    “Introit et Kyrie”
    Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
Grant them your eternal rest, O Lord,
    et lux perpetua luceat eis.
may your light shine forever upon them.
Te decet hymnus, Deus, in Sion,
    O God, we sing to you hymns in Zion;
et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem.
and to you we lift our praises in Jerusalem.
    Exaudi orationem meam
Hear thy faithful servants as we pray,
    ad te omnis caro veniet.
for unto you all flesh shall come.
Kyrie eleison. Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
    “Dies Iræ”
    Dies irae, dies illa,
Day of wrath and day of judgment,
    solvet sæclum in favilla,
Earth shall perish in an instant,
    teste David cum Sibylla.
    as foretold by prophets ancient.
    Mors stupebit et natura,
Death and nature both are shaken,
    cum resurget creatura,
    as creation re-awakens,
    judicanti responsura.
to its Judge an answer making.
    Recordare, Jesu pie,
    Remember me, merciful Jesus,
    ne me perdas (illa die).
let me not perish (on that terrible day).
    Huic ergo parce, Deus,
    Therefore, Gracious God, spare them,
    dona eis requiem.
    grant eternal rest to them.
    “Offertory et Hostias”
    Gwen Sell, soprano
    Domine, Jesu Christe, Rex gloriæ,
Lord, Jesus Christ, the King of glory,
    libera animas omnium fidelium defunctorum
Lord, Jesus Christ, the King of glory,
de poenis inferni et de profundo lacu.
Save them from the pains of hell and the lake of fire.
    Libera eas de ore leonis;
    Deliver them from the mouth of the lion;
    ne absorbeat eas tartarus,
do not allow hell to swallow their souls,
    ne cadant in obscurum.
    nor fall into the darkness.
    Sed signifer sanctus Michael
    Yet may the archangel Michael
    repræsentet eas in lucem sanctam.
bring them forth into the holy light.
Quam olim Abrahæ promisisti et semini eius.
As you promised to Abraham and his descendants.
Hostias et preces tibi, Domine, laudis offerimus:
Sacrifices, prayers, and praises, Lord, we now offer to you:
    tu suscipe pro animabus illis,
we make them today for the sake of the souls
    quarum hodie memoriam facimus,
    who have gone before us,
fac eas, Domine, de morte transire ad vitam.
that they may pass from death into life!
Quam olim Abrahæ promisisti et semini eius.
As you promised to Abraham and his descendants.
    “Sanctus”
Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth!
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Heav’nly Hosts!
Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
    Hosanna in excelsis.
    Hosanna in the highest.
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
    Hosanna in excelsis!
    Hosanna in the highest!
    “Pie Jesu”
Gwen Sell, soprano; Erica Koehring, mezzo-soprano
Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem.
Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest.
Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem sempiternam.
Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest eternal.
    “Agnus Dei”
    Gwen Sell, soprano
Agnus Dei, qui tollis pecatta mundi,
Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world,
    dona eis requiem.
    grant them your peace.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi,
Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world
    dona eis requiem sempiternam.
    grant us them peace eternal.
    “Lux Aeterna”
    Lux æterna luceat eis, Domine,
May your light forever shine on them, O Lord,
cum sanctis tuis in æternum, quia pius es.
with your holy saints forever, for you are gracious.
    Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
Grant them rest forever, O Lord,
    et lux perpetua luceat eis,
and may your light forever shine on them,
    quia pius es.
    thanks to your great mercy.
    “Libera Me”
Libera me, Domine, de morte æterna
Save me, gracious Lord, from death eternal
    in die illa tremenda,
    on that day of judgement,
quando coeli movendi sunt et terra,
when the heavens and earth shall tremble,
dum veneris judicare sæculum per ignem.
when you shall come to judge the world by fire.
Tremens factus sum ego et timeo,
I am filled with fear and trembling,
dum discussio venerit atque ventura ira.
as the coming Judgement fills me with dread.
Dies illa, dies iræ, calamitatis et miseriæ,
On that day of wrath and judgement, calamity and misery,
    dies magna et amara valde
the great day of bitterness and sadness
dum veneris judicare sæculum per ignem.
when you come to judge the world with fire.
    Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
Grant them your eternal rest, O Lord,
    et lux perpetua luceat eis.
and may your light shine forever upon them.
