It's called overshoot or black smearing specifically for VA. Overdrive always turns into overshoot at lower refresh rate unless it's unjusted dynamically by the monitor itself which is rare and commonly present in G-sync and NOT in freesync / (some kind of)sync screens.

Fun thing, atleast for me, (AoC C27G2ZE/BK) is that this AoC monitor has a bad time rendering Dark pixels and colors, meaning that the more bright your monitor is, the less smearing and lag there is, it will also make the game feel smoother since the monitor can render everything faster and better. atm I'm running: Contrast 55, Brightness 65, gamma 1, RGB User Mode - Red 43, Green 46 and Blue 51, Shadow Control sits at 50 and Overdrive at Strong. These settings are what works for me, I would like to go brighter and use shadow control at 60 and move overdrive to Medium (since Shadow COntrol 60 + Overdrive strong causes black artifacts which makes reading harder in gaming), though my eyes can't actually take all that brightness in causing eye strain and pain which makes it harder to play games as well.
holy sht, I dont know whats worse: backlight bleed on IPS or horrific black things because of VA ghosting 🤢 Why do monitor companies release products with these problems at all?! I just wanted a 1440p 144Hz monitor but I cant find any because they either have bleed and black looks grey or black smearing...
They release products with these problems because they're inherent to the panel technology used and can't really be solved. And there's no better technology that's affordable enough for mass production. OLED monitors make an improvement and are slowly coming down in price, but they're still way too expensive for anything but high end models. Also, IPS glow is much less of an issue if you watch the monitor with adequate ambient and/or bias lighting instead of in complete darkness (which is bad for your eyes anyway and should be avoided whenever possible). Ambient light naturally "darkens" the "greyish" blacks and in fact takes away a lot of the VA panel's contrast advantage, because in regularly lit room, you don''t really see higher contrast than around 1000-1500:1 anyway. And let's not forget the fact that IPS glow usually looks noticeably worse on camera than it looks in person, because the camera tends to accentuate it (due to longer exposure).
Recently I came across a video and I want to say about my monitor. I have an AOC AGON AG271QG which has a built-in G -Sync physical processor. I played around with the settings and saw that all these highlights do not affect it, that is, everything is set up almost perfectly from the factory, the blur effect is minimal.
Simple method: You need to ensure the refresh rate is similar to what your game supports. I use Titan Army VA Panel 24inch 144hz monitor. For example, I play on PS5 and use my monitor that have 144hz refresh rate. It will ghosting no matter what because I can't control the settings of the game to accept 144hz (default it's 60hz). On PC, it's easy. Go to Windows Display Settings and set it to 144hz. On the Graphics Card settings also set it to 144hz. Zero Ghosting effect.
When i set overdrive to boost, it turns off automatically when i shut down computer and i have to set it every time i turn pc on. What should be a trouble?
I'm bummed with this ghosting shit because I came from an old LG 34" Ultrawide IPS monitor to a really expensive 240hz 4k Samsung Neo G8 and with the old LG I didn't have ghosting and with this new expensive monitor I do. SMH!
This is only one tunings set that actually helps with ghosting so far! Thank you so much! But increasing shadow made a new issue for screen being kinda 'misty' with high brightness. I have AOC C27G2AE/BK and there are setting for colors i found to solve the misty issue. In GMENU: shadow control:60 game color:10 brightness:40 contrast:50 color temp:normal overdrive:medium gamma:1 low blue mode:multimedia eco mode:internet I have amd card. So it was amd software programm for me to tune rest. For nvidia i guess you'll find similar color settings in nvidia panel. Its for global display settings. Custom color setting: color temperature:7100 brightness:- 2 hue:0 contrast:88 saturation:100 Without last part of settings it doesn't look that fine to me. Probably this will help somebody in need. Update: apparently you cant solve ghosting on this model completely, its just impossible due to VA, it will be always there. Had to sell this shit myself cuz store didn't want to refund shipment back money. Just dont buy this garbage monitor, its absolute trash, im not speaking about all AOC monitor, this particular one.
@Is what it is i put it on local version of ebay, i get myself iiyama g2770 i like everything it offers and absolute 0 ghosting+different black filters already build in
Someone needs to make a driver level software display overdrive for VA displays. The software will boost dark level transitions at high refresh rates. This will be done by giving a slightly higher RGB value to the display for dark level transitions when at high fps.
@Precise. Yes, dropping the refresh rate does improve dark level response times on a VA display. I would personally drop it to 144hz since most games don't go much over 144fps anyway (depending on your hardware) and the jump from 144hz to 240hz isn't that big. I would not brighten the shadows since that would visually have more impact (makes image look flat) than dropping the refresh rate to 144hz.

Nobody buying a new product at the prices they charge should be dealing with this. It's a shame, and an abuse from the manufacturers putting out products where you can basically see 2 frames in 1. Same about light bleeding which according to them it's "acceptable" and "normal". Same about flickering. Same about discolouring along the panel. Same about viewing angles. All of that in the same VA monitor.

I get quite a bit of ghosting on Call of duty Warzone, but I'm thinking it might be due to me using DLSS, although I'm not entirely sure. i will sometimes see trails from the birds that fly around in the sky, or people who are off in the distance, leaving a trail behind them. I do have a 30 series card, so I dont think my gpu would be the issue here, in regard to it being compatible with DLSS technology, I'm just asking if you have any answers as to what settings I can try to tamper with to get rid of it.
Warzone uses temporal anti aliasing with DLSS as an option, both of which cause severe ghosting depending on the implementation. Trying turning DLSS and AA off to see if the trailing is still there.
@@OutlawedPoet When I disable DLSS, the ghosting goes away entirely. Whether or not I have AA enabled with DLSS off, there is still no ghosting. I just want a 1080p 60hz monitor with minimal ghosting and good blacks (at least 2500:1) without purposely washing shit out... Are my standards too high lol.
Hi I don't usually leave comments but I wanted to say thank you! I accidentally turned AMA (the benq setting that decreases ghosting) to full and didn't realize it and for months have been getting corona artifacts and had no idea what it was. It was driving me insane! I didn't know how to describe it (as it's obviously not ghosting) but ended up accidentally finding this video. Thanks again
I have a Benq. What’s the best AMA ? High ?
@@diegodiniz AMA is the anti-ghost software for the monitor. If you are experiencing ghosting you can change the setting to high or premium to account for that. Otherwise, I’d suggest not fiddling with it as it will make you have coronas if you turn it on and ghosting isn’t present.

Weird thing on my LG monitor is that when I set the response rate to “faster” there’s more trailing 🤔
That could be a result of pixel overdrive that the pixels at the front end are overvolting and actually causing that trailing h
For those who does not know how to have better performance (remove motion blueness) this is the way : It is indeed a VA panel, VA panels does have aprox. 5ms not 1. This monitor has the ability to change in 1 (not even close to 1 2-3) that means it will have motion blur and maybe a ghosting (it depends even more in the response time [chose faster RT]) . Thank me later. So play with more MS and do not even thing to judge a VA monitor! Perfect price for a perfect monitor. Thank you again LG, and thank me later!
When i set overdrive to boost, it turns off automatically when i shut down computer and i have to set it every time i turn pc on. What should be a trouble?
thanks this fix my aoc 24g2spe never thought that adjusting gamma and shadow control helps with smearing problems
thanks man, this helped me a lot
You're a lifee saver man, thank you very much
Fun thing, atleast for me, (AoC C27G2ZE/BK) is that this AoC monitor has a bad time rendering Dark pixels and colors, meaning that the more bright your monitor is, the less smearing and lag there is, it will also make the game feel smoother since the monitor can render everything faster and better.
atm I'm running: Contrast 55, Brightness 65, gamma 1, RGB User Mode - Red 43, Green 46 and Blue 51, Shadow Control sits at 50 and Overdrive at Strong.
These settings are what works for me, I would like to go brighter and use shadow control at 60 and move overdrive to Medium (since Shadow COntrol 60 + Overdrive strong causes black artifacts which makes reading harder in gaming), though my eyes can't actually take all that brightness in causing eye strain and pain which makes it harder to play games as well.
thanks i and i have an aoc c24g1 and it has a lot of ghosting but thanks to you it's almost zero
holy sht, I dont know whats worse: backlight bleed on IPS or horrific black things because of VA ghosting 🤢 Why do monitor companies release products with these problems at all?! I just wanted a 1440p 144Hz monitor but I cant find any because they either have bleed and black looks grey or black smearing...
At least you can fix black smearing on a VA panel if you don't mind grayer blacks. I don't think there's a fix for IPS glow or bleed.
Simple method:
You need to ensure the refresh rate is similar to what your game supports.
SMH!
For my Dell 144hz monitor, I had to set response time from "super fast" to "normal" to get rid of ghosting
This is only one tunings set that actually helps with ghosting so far! Thank you so much! But increasing shadow made a new issue for screen being kinda 'misty' with high brightness. I have AOC C27G2AE/BK and there are setting for colors i found to solve the misty issue.
In GMENU:
shadow control:60
game color:10
brightness:40
contrast:50
color temp:normal
overdrive:medium
gamma:1
low blue mode:multimedia
eco mode:internet
I have amd card. So it was amd software programm for me to tune rest. For nvidia i guess you'll find similar color settings in nvidia panel. Its for global display settings.
Custom color setting:
color temperature:7100
brightness:- 2
hue:0
contrast:88
saturation:100
Without last part of settings it doesn't look that fine to me.

What is the best settings for Alienware 360hz for competitive games please 🙏
Someone needs to make a driver level software display overdrive for VA displays. The software will boost dark level transitions at high refresh rates. This will be done by giving a slightly higher RGB value to the display for dark level transitions when at high fps.
@Precise. Yes, dropping the refresh rate does improve dark level response times on a VA display. I would personally drop it to 144hz since most games don't go much over 144fps anyway (depending on your hardware) and the jump from 144hz to 240hz isn't that big. I would not brighten the shadows since that would visually have more impact (makes image look flat) than dropping the refresh rate to 144hz.
thank you so much it works greetings

Aha! Thank you. I just got a VG32VQ1B as my first monitor above 1080p and was loving it, but once I started playing Cyberpunk 2077 ultra everything I was getting REALLY horrible ghosting. Without knowing what it actually was, I'd set the Overdrive to 100! Turning it off solved the problem immediately. Thanks! I really wish they'd include a warning about these features that they can cause side effects.
Are you sure the ghosting wasn't from the game itself? CB 2077 uses a pretty aggressive TAA implementation, which is an AA method that introduces its own ghosting.
@@OutlawedPoet It definitely contributed to it, but once I disabled the Overdrive, the ghosting issue went from severe and distracting to barely noticeable, and only at times.

i reccomend returning your monitor under warranty if it looks like this. got an old c27jg samsung that has 0 ghosting on all three ufos. got a new wqhd yesterday. man that SUCKED!! some aoc "gaming" monitor. so much ghosting it cant be used for motion pictures even. let less gaming at 144 fps... looks like luck of the draw on these low price monitors. wierd that they make this crap level of screens at all.
I use overdrive extreme and set contrast to 10. Shadows are at 0 and brightness is maxed. Brighter pixels have less ghosting and for playing on a Xbox series X it helps. Makes the game look like shit, but I don’t play games for good graphics. 😂 just to broke to afford a good pc for cod and Fortnite
1:00 "so you can actually see the smearing"
Me: Seeing nothing other than a monitor which is not in focus
Me: He must be talking about the smears on his glasses cuz thats the only thing in focus... xD
Buy VA panel to get deep blacks and then turn on shadow control to get grey blacks :( better just buy IPS and get normal blacks without ghosting
I'd say if you're in a situation like this guy where you find a great deal on a monitor but it happens to be a VA, you can increase the shadows to get rid of the black smearing if it's noticeable with grayer blacks as a result.
excellent video
Forgot to mention: Just bought this monitor using your affiliate link. Can't wait to experience my first 144hz monitor! It's worth it for me because of how cheap the monitor is even if it means having to mess around with image quality for a true high refresh rate experience. So excited.

I have a laptop and dunno how to get rid of ghosting. Please help :/
I get quite a bit of ghosting on Call of duty Warzone, but I'm thinking it might be due to me using DLSS, although I'm not entirely sure. i will sometimes see trails from the birds that fly around in the sky, or people who are off in the distance, leaving a trail behind them. However, the trail is really annoying and I'm not quite sure how to get rid of it without needing to disable DLSS, since I'm playing on 1440p and want the best fps possible.
I'm looking/asking for a solution to be able to use DLSS without ghosting, because I'd rather have the 40+ extra FPS with DLSS on and a bit of ghosting, than not as many FPS, with no ghosting at all. Currently, I'm still dealing with the ghosting and DLSS is on, but if there's a way that I can get rid of ghosting altogether with DLSS enabled, that would be amazing.
(Ive tried replacing the DLSS driver with the 2.2 and 2.3 version in the Modern Warfare folder)
@@thelants8569 Nah, there's no way to get rid of the ghosting. That's just how DLSS works. I'd pick DLSS, since Warzone is more of a competitive game.

@@Solid_Snake99 depends on what GPU youre trying to use it on. A lot of people, including myself and many other people who have a lot of credibility (such as JayzTwoCents, Hardware Unboxed), all agree that DLSS is actually really good, but only for 30 series cards.
