Along with the lyrics that so perfectly express despair over a love never realized, what makes this song great is how dispirited Thom is for the verses, then kicks into intensity for the chorus, especially that incredible second chorus, when he is literally wailing his despair. The juxtaposition of the downbeat and the anguish is what makes this song so wonderful and relatable, regardless of how he now doesn't like his own song.
Street Spirit (Fade Out) is just gut-wrenching, reminds me of like funeral wailing at the end. And Thom has said in interviews what the song means and where it came from, and how it kills him to sing it. How he feels bad for the audience when they sing along, all happy and such. He compares it to taking a sick dog to the vet to be put down, but it's happy and wagging his tail the entire trip there. Best version I've found.... th-cam.com/video/qvjvNncbKzw/w-d-xo.html

On a similarly emotionally shattering note, I'd recommend Villagers - Pieces (Home Sessions), and in a separate facet completely, you should listen to essentially anything by Lianne La Havas. Her pitch and tone are absolutely incredible.
The mouth stretch is because of ear problems. As someone who's had ear issues (impacted wax, infections etc) this is a behaviour that can happen as a result. Our jaw bones connect to out skulls right under the ear. Our biology has evolved in a way that our ears help get cleared by chewing food. It's similar to how regular walking help digestion, particularly bowel movements. Thom exhibited this behaviour around 1996 to 1998.
Amazing song. You should totally react to Mimi & Josephine singing this song in their blind audition of The Voice Kids Germany 2019. Such very special girls (see what I tried to do there?😉), they did a great version of the song, the video has currently 39 million views so.....

@@rva At Glastonbury 2017 they did it so well 👌
Thom can sound all over the place and absolutely gorgeous at the same time. One of my favorite male vocalists, ever.
I just subscribed to this channel . Rebecca’s energy is really something different, in a good way, and her mannerisms while watching the video we’re infectious , very cool . Thanks Rebecca
He's stretching the muscles he's going to need later in the song for the 30 sec full gaping belt at about 5:50 to 6:20. It looks quite cold and he would have tore his jaw muscles without warming for that. He also wipes a bit of drool away afterwards... :-)
I think he wipes a tear, and the stretch is probably coke
you're not wrong this song has some of the best emotional aspects of all time
This live performance is really special.... "I wish I was special
.... You're so f****n' special", definitely, yes, you are! It's perfection. First time I listen to this performance from them. What a great way to discover it with your amazing analysis! It shows all the energy that can be transmitted to the crowd without having to move! Singing is so powerful when done the proper way! Nice post, Rebecca! Best Regards from your friend François in Montreal, Canada! 🎼🃏🎶🎵🙏👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏💛😁👋
LOVE how you appreciate each artists vocal style, for what (and WHY) it is.
I hadn't before seen this particular performance of this song, but you can tell that he's really feeling each note of the song, and it's amazing to watch someone else feel each note so strongly. I adore music for its ability to communicate and conjure emotion, so it's very rewarding to see someone else who isn't afraid to let their own emotions show in real time as they experience them from amazing music.
This specific version of this song is a 10/10.
Brian Justin Crum does one of my favorite performances of this.
guardians animal rescue/ state certified 501c3 also Vincent on the four. And there’s also two sisters who went on the voice and did a really awesome cover aswell

You are fun and entertaining, I would love to see you do Toto-Africa ( metal cover by Leo Moracchioli feat. Rabea & Hannah)....and something from slipknot as well.
I commented on a video back in November asking you to react to this I’ve waited so long and I’m so pleased
I love your reactions and commentaries, please keep it up.
Watch Mimi and Josephine kids voice 2019 singing this. A different country though.
Oh beatiful cover for this two girls angelical voice
Ja die Mädels haben was drauf 😁
Agreed, they are something else, theyr version was really awsome.
Thom Yorke and Beck are the two most underrated geniuses in my life time
Hell yeah! Beck is crazy talented
Who underrates thom yorke
@@dudelebowski9746 hold on, let me find my abacus...
"does anyone hate it?..." Thom yorke lol
Psilo Cybin And Jonny Greenwood too!
I think this is my favourite reaction of yours ever, love it.
It's been a long time since this song made me cry. Hearing your reaction got me there again. And I watched this video recently as well. Thank you, and well.. shit.

All that was in my head was "I didn't raise you in a barn, Thomas Edward Yorke."
You reacted to one of my favorite clips on youtube! Love it!
Ps: if you really want the feelings from Yorke, than watch Idioteque live performances.
On a similarly emotionally shattering note, I'd recommend Villagers - Pieces (Home Sessions), and in a separate facet completely, you should listen to essentially anything by Lianne La Havas. Her pitch and tone are absolutely incredible.
Yessss!!! Lianne, please!!
OMG THANK UUU that makes a lot of sense!! idk where ppl got the idea he was snorting coke LOL
Ahhhh….this song and his voice makes me “melt”!! 💜
I'd love to hear you react to "Radiohead How To Disappear Completely live (perfect audio)"
Please react to "There, there" of Radiohead live please!!!
i am the only one who drops some tears with this sound?
The sincerity of the song is what makes it great. .its real human emotion. .
I love these videos for how much you get involved in the music 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Rebecca, you MUST react to the Postmodern Jukebox version of this song with Haley Reinhart.
Amazing song. You should totally react to Mimi & Josephine singing this song in their blind audition of The Voice Kids Germany 2019. Such very special girls (see what I tried to do there?😉), they did a great version of the song, the video has currently 39 million views so.....
I’ve just discovered this channel and I think I’ve looked all through, but is there a reaction to Opeth’s Drapery Falls anywhere? I’ve seen some metal tackled on here... just curious 😊 Absolutely loving the channel! You’re brilliant!
Thanks so much appreciate your support. Can add
Thom Yorke is one of the all-time great voices of rock with very few peers, he's up there with many of the greats eg Whitney Huston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Jim Morrison, Freddie Mercury, Elvis etc etc
Dimash Kudaibergen
The dynamics within the song are great as are the dynamics of Thom's performance. He always sounds good, and goes for meaningful economy without virtuosity.
what i think most interesting is that even though I'm not a singer, I always stop to watch your videos and listen to what you have to say lol
