  • I put all the characters who didn't get their own Famicom game in the thumbnail.
Famidaily is my attempt to catalog all of the commercially released Famicom games.

I was binging some random Famidaily episodes lately, and I saw the Famicom Jump episode. I saw the message you put when you mentioned Famicom Jump II saying "See you in episode 0864", and then I checked the current episode schedule and that was 3 episodes away lol
    Thanks for your work!

I stopped doing that because I figured no one was looking at those episode connections. 😀

Considering Yuji Horii worked on this, you can absolutely consider this a "Dragon Quest 4.5". The game is decent but the ending is pretty grindy and there's a side quest that you have to do to even damage the first form of the final boss.
The game is decent despite this and the soundtrack is pretty fun :)

This game definitely needs an English translation patch. I can only hope someone can work on this... someday... :(

Is in hiragana(mostly) so it mus be a little easier to use a translator or good if you are practicing japanese

This kinda seems like a precursor to Live A Live!

There's a Famicom game coming up that is extremely close to Live A Live and was released four weeks before Live A Live started development...

The 2nd game is considerably better, but it only sold a fraction of what the 1st game did (between 100k-200k or so, apparently, from what I've checked). A tale as old as time. It's not perfect of course, but still, if I were to play a Famicom Jump game... I'd play this one for sure. (I'd argue the only manga/anime people in the West know from this selection are Dragon Ball and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.)

Ah Famicom Jump 2, the sequel to a trainwreck Bandai released 2 years before that. The combat is weird but at least it is much more playable than the first one, though there are no English patch to be found.
Despite the character scale is much smaller than the first one, I think that is an improvement. The first game had no character that I'm familiar with (yes, even Goku), while the second had Taruruuto and Ryotsu which were the only Shonen Jump contents I liked.
It's late 1991 but Bandai is actually getting better at last. While there are still some games at this time that were just cheap cash-in, I find a couple of later Bandai releases to be playable, including this one. Not to mention the Magical Taruruuto-kun games that Bandai published were actually good despite being a bit difficult as a platformer.

This game comes on one a 4 megabit cartridge with battery back-up, SRAM totaling 16k, and Bandai's own special mapper chip. The price is still a little high though, possibly due to the license.
The presentation is fantastic on this one. The one iris-out animation looks very impressive and had to be extremely hard to do even in just 8x8 blocks.

goku and dragonball always getting the business in these reviews, haha. but probably a good call making it a dragonquest-like! shame it didn't have more characters from the comics though.... I guess at least it turned out better than the first game? would be curious to know if it's been translated yet.
