Always loved this key art - not just the crumbling title but also the entire composition. There is a more complete version at the back of the booklet as well as on the promotional leaflet printed for the game. The artwork reminds me a bit of Matsushita Susumu but it was apparently illustrated by Mutō Kaoru whom I never could find anything else about. Also, the translated title reminds me that I was recently amazed to find out this channel’s video on Spectral Tower is by far its most popular one! How bizarre. I guess the unusually titillating thumbnail did the trick.
I was expecting this game review at some point. I think it's a good game... and an obvious Castlevania II clone, I just wish that someone could make an English translation patch for this game someday.
vaguely reminds me of faxanadu... but heavier on the jank. some of those elements like the grinding might be a little painful but I suppose nothing an emulator and savestates couldn't fix.
Castlevania II Simon's Quest, but in a tower. Personally, I found it considerably less fun and in some ways more obtuse, but yeah, I get the mixed reception. There are some things to like here as well; after all, later Castlevanias took a similar approach with having a giant castle to explore and all that. That sense of discovery is still there to some extent.
Slowlevania II: Snail's Quest 😅 Frankly it's not that bad if you're into ancient action adventure stuff. At least it's not cursed like Woody Poco but also it's not a hidden gem like Cosmo Police Galivan. Matou no Houkai is somewhere in between.
The horizontal scrolling that immediately loops reminds me of some NES Remix challenges that turned a horizontal wraparound into scrolling in games like Kid Icarus and Mario Brothers.
Looks like a cross between Faxanadu and Castlevania, the artstyle of the former and the controls of the latter... Just not well thoughtout as either of those two which is a shame.
At least it’s not 10,000 floors with randomly generated save points, right?

This looks like the sort of game that's just begging for a fan rebalancing patch to fix some of its wonkier elements.

I feel like I might've liked this if it came out here, except for maybe that automatic jump...

The knock back animation on this game is Superb BTW.
I can’t be the only one who thinks those crow enemies look like Heckle and Jekyll in spy outfits.
I see there is disagreement on whether the next Eggerland came out in August or October.
