I’m a history teacher and historian. The average life expectancy estimates are skewed heavily in a pre-ant biotic era because of disease, childhood mortality, and women dying in child birth. If someone made it to about 12 years old there was a good chance they’d live to about 60-70.

One of the biggest misconceptions when discussing history. Thank you for bringing this up, it always irks me.
      Otherwise great video here though!

Thank you for these videos! I was sent here by googling Urban Meyer, then that led to Fielding Yost and then your channel. It’s great. Nowadays the NFL does not even practice in full pads!

I will begin focusing once again on this channel as the college football offseason is almost upon us.

That last bit is because the players are already so good, they have more to lose by contact in practice than to gain. However, the worse and less experienced the players are, the more and fuller contact they need in practice. I coach children, where lots of contact is needed to develop those skills. It's also the safest time of their lives to play.

Great content. Your videos got me through a slow day at work, I will go back and thumbs-up every previous video I watched.
Regarding the life expectancy thing, at this point there was about a 40% chance any child would die before age 5. Boys wore the same clothes before that age because it didn't make sense to have different clothes and identities given to any small child. Breeching ceremonies (when boys were given their first pants) were a thing because it was a celebration of that kid making it long enough to be assumed he'd made it and would live a full life.
So when one of those young men, one who was from a family that could afford college, gets a life changing injury from a sport that wouldn't even make them money, possibly from a dude that was a tramp player, that can make an influential voice pretty darn loud.
Great content I will keep watching and share.

Please cover the history of tackling some day. How did players tackle before shoulder pads came in? Were collar-bones often broken?

Doctor was pretty much a title you gave yourself in this time. Most doctors became ones through apprenticeships and not formal education or following a standard. It wasn’t until 1910 when they made it mandatory to attend college. Even then they still grandfathered in all those doctors who did apprenticeships. So medicine was wacky back then.

Really great ideal for a channel, pretty good set, you have a great tone and delivery! You appear to do thorough research and use a good amount of Imagery ! Only thing I would suggest is to keep pumpin out your content, in which you must continue to incourage people to do all the necessities, like, sub, hit the notifications bell and all that jazz. Im a 45 year old man from east TN, GO VOLS , Football was my first love. I gave 15 years to organized ball before she was done with me. Now I just get to watch and give my 2 cents worth. Teddy was right, football definitely shaped my life and helped me prepare for what layed ahead. He was right about the leisurely lifestyle stuff just 100 years ahead of time lol. Im a pretty big TR guy and I had never heard that, so kudos on that and your video and channel wish you all the success.

I am interested in what you consider fluff.
It is sometimes a difficult decision regarding what to keep and what to cut.
