- It has been 3 long years but project LSK5 Blazer is back with an all new power plant. We might have to rename it due to this new powerplant but you be the judge. That's right the Knucklehead Garage K5 Blazer Build is getting an LT LS swap. It's a 5th generation LS known as an LT. These LT engines are updated with direct port injection. Since there is no LT swap K5 Blazer kit we are figuring it out as we go. This LT 5.3 swap is backed by a 6 speed 6L80 transmission which should make this K5 blazer daily driver awesome on the highway. This series should help anyone with trying to do a square body engine swap regardless of whether it is a C10, K5 or K10. Carter even shows you how to build your own K5 blazer LS swap motor mounts in this one. We also started the tear down a clean up process of interior as well as a frame off cleaning in this K5 Blazer restoration project. Let us know what you think about our K5 Blazer build ideas and whether we should change the name to LTK5 since we went with this modern engine swap.

Bad ass lt aint as common as ls makes it even better my all time favorite truck my dad bought one from a junk yard put a hot 350 in it gave it a rattle can camouflage paint job and 35s perfect trail rig
It makes me wish I hadn't had given up on my 4wd 1983 Dodge Ramcharger that I swapped a 360 Magnum into. It originally had a 360 LA 4 bbl carb engine, but I wanted EFI, but I never figured out the wiring, and it was just sitting there, so I sold it to my buddy for scrap. Makes me sad. It would've been so badass with a Hellcat 4wd swap...🤣🤣🤣

Badass a np 203/205 doubler with a tripple stick conversion and you would have all the low rang you would ever need

Buddy I’ll tell you with your blazer being mainly for off road crawling I’d definitely go with a doubler set for sure!!! First if you are worried about the 4.56 gears the doubler will definitely help!! Plus a doubler can definitely get you buy for years before you deside to go lower with the gears!!! One other thing I would definitely do again is do the triple stick that will get you front wheel dig and vice versa!! I have a 1969 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 that I have 13” of lift and running 39” boggers with air lockers both front and rear also am running a doubler setup and a sm465 manual tranny with a 32 spline output shat!! So definitely the strongest or in the strongest ara!! I absolutely love the front dig option and it definitely helps with my 4.56 gears also!! I definitely wish I had a set of 5.88 or 5.13 gear setup but like I said the doubler definitely helps along with the triple stick shifter setup!!! Super easy to do just some time getting everything cleaned really good for reassemble!! Plus any questions you might have Steven at off road design definitely took time out of his busy day not just once but several different times to answer all and any questions I had plus there was a couple things I absolutely had no clue on but he took time to exsplain it to me several different ways until I understood what I might have needed!!!! Definitely one of the best customer relationships I have ever experienced!!! I have definitely ordered a shit ton of parts threw them because of how they have treated me so well!!! If you have any questions he would definitely be able to help you out for sure!!! Plus you can tell him every thing that you are doing to it and will definitely tell you what he thinks would be the best thing for your rig!!! Hopefully all that made some kind of cents to you??!! Lol!!! I’m not running a newer engine like you are but did end up building a 421 sbc for mine and was able to put it on a dyno before installing it into my truck!! It ended up putting out just shy of 700hp and from 500ftlbs of torque to just over 700ftlbs of torque!!! Like I said earlier I definitely wish I would have ran a 4.88 or even the 5.13 gears but by putting the doubler setup in it has definitely gotten me by just fine with out having to swap the ring and pinion to a lower gear setup!!! I definitely think that you would be happy with a doubler setup
It isn't for mainly offroad. It is meant to be a weekend warrior.

I have a couple 241’s one is a 241c it was out of a big block don’t know if it’s stronger I’m gonna head out and check em out if I have a passenger drop I’ll let you know and I’m easy about gettin people back on the road so I’ll be back in touch in a couple days ...glad to see k5 again lol I get it doo doo occurs .lol

Sir, In AZ NP205's are NOT a dime a dozen. I've been lookin for on to add to my 1978 Scottsdale 4x4 rebuild for a year and I cant find a darn thing. Occasionally there is one in phoenix abut right now, only one in Tucson and it is $1600.00. Other than that...Great build...love to see it when it is done. Mine is a gen1 383 built. Your video was a pleasure to watch and you have some great ideas. Thanks from AZ.

Man im 2 weeks late to the video but I was so excited to see the blazer come back. It was the video that really motivated me to 1 ton swap my k10 a year ago.

Wish I would have known earlier I got a 241c I'm not using.
And I did find out that you need a different gas tank when I did my 77 Cherokee Chief small block fuel infected for my ex. Also hydroboost from one tons fits great as well as Astro Vans or Safari vans.

And as far as steering goes Northwest Fab Works out of Canada has everything a guy needs for any kind of setup. Just my opinion they are awesome and they have the Atlas transfer case.
That international shipping would hurt though

I just got the E4OD for my 95 bronco redone and am looking into a stronger driveline and motor rebuild. I love the simplicity to your videos. Makes me want to get my hands dirty every day lol.

ORD has the 203/205 in their personal trucks and they are pretty durable and they run what they sell.

@@BustedKnuckleVideo They are both cast iron case, gear driven which equals weight but the tradeoff is strength and durability. It's going in a full size on tons with 40's so imho I would build the drivetrain as bulletproof as possible and not necessarily worry about the weight. You have some great fab skills so building a crossmember/skidplate combo should be fairly straight forward. Look forward to seeing it up and running.

The Military K-5 (AKA M1009) used Hydro-boost brakes and the unit is the same as the Square Body trucks so there are plenty of cores in the bone yards.

What about using a 12v power steering pump and vaccum pump from something like a volvo v40? That's what they use on dift cars and DIY electric car conversions.

You have a lot more options using the 203 range box on the 205 case. Including 2wd front hi AMD 2wd lo front only

Also you clearly have great fabrication skills so if I it were me I'd scrap the stock exhaust manifolds and build a pair of long tube headers not just for performance but for clearance because your pretty close and if you are using LS motor mounts instead of factory blazers clam shell mounts it's gonna start moving around. Them strock Perch style rubber mounts have a lot of movement and are prone to tearing apart on the driver side. I've replaced dozens of them at my shop on all 99 and up GM trucks

I'd go full tube chassis and throw some skins on it that look like a K5.
Cars with injection require what's called a "swirl pot" that will supply fuel to the engine to prevent fuel starvation around corners or climbing.

You can keep VVT, just delete AFM/DOD. Or get this, Cam Phaser Limiter Kit for '09+ GM GEN IV LS and '14+ GM GEN V LT1.

I've got the 203/205 doubler. If I had my brothers now I'd do the ORD magnum. In the long run its not much more money than the doubler.

Was there any trouble on centering up the 14 bolt? I’m doing one and with the pinion offset from factory I measured and got it centered for drive line but seems the tires arnt exactly sticking out the same by an inch or so … Help 😅

The benefits from a SBC to LS are huge and hard to ignore. Not so much with the LS vs the LT. I would do a 6.0 LS over a LT anything only because of the simplicity, cost and availability of after market products to make it happen. Also take into account GM will do away with the LT shortly as they transition to the flat plane crank engine they are testing in the C8 Z06 right now. Higher rpms, smaller displacement, better fuel economy and plenty of power. The LT will probably be short lived and likely not worth the effort or cost of a swap over the LS. Just my opinion.

got a question for you i got a 1990 k5 blazer with 3' body lift on it and 35x12 tires on it and i have alot of play in my steering i have put about 2 or 3 gear boxs on my truck and still have the same problem everything under there is new i have a new borgeson telescopic steering shaft..is it a better gear box i can buy i think them gear boxes were junk from auto parts store it looks like its coming from the gear box to me....i have had my truck for along time and didnt use to have all this play have driven it out of town a few times ..what do you think..i apprecuate your feedback.

BustedKnuckleVideo I’m with it you do great work I’m not hatting on your build at all k5 are the shit I had many of them actually I had a 87 woth 40k on it never been set in the rest it was pike new the ash tray had never been pulled out then I had a army 1ton blazer with 14 bolt corporate factory rear end Dana 60 front it wAs ruff but it was the only blazer I have ever seen with a factory four speed standard trans and one ton rear but yes I’m with ya man had baby I just really like coil over but whatever you do I’m sure it’s going to be nice you can tell how you go about things that you do great work

Got a 82 snapped the frame a few months ago and already bought a new one and getting it on the road tomorrow, swapping my built motor into it in a month once I’m done setting up the 5 speed to my 205 and put it all in together. Shame it’s sitting but I’m sure it’ll see the blacktop under its own power at some point.
