      It's so, so cool that in the middle of this flawless newsroom scene that could be from any realistic 20th-century film, Perry casually references an alien having solar-powered super-cells from another galaxy without realizing it. This film is everything.

      There was quite a bit of accidental groin contact between Clark Kent and Lois Lane in this scene.
      When his pants got drenched, she tried to wipe it off his pants with her bare hands and stroked his johnson.
      And when he walked to his desk she backed up and instigated a spooning.

    You got to love Christopher Reeves performance as Clark Kent. He really pulled off the clumsy mild manner reporter side of him from the comics and he was a awsome Superman. I kinda wish Henry Cavill could make his Clark Kent more clumsy so people won't suspect him as Superman, but he makes another great Superman in my opinion.. R.I.P. Christopher Reeves he was a great iconic man.

    • @sabishiihito
      @sabishiihito 6 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Clark hasn't been clumsy in a LONG time. People forget that the Reeve movies were based on Silver Age Superman, where "Clark Kent" was just a disguise. The modern interpretation is that Clark Kent is the real man and Superman is just his public superhero persona.

    Christopher Reeve's perfectly calibrated physical acting in every scene as Clark Kent cannot be overstated. Look at how he struggles to open the bottle. Look at how the door hits him at 1:41; it moves him naturally, like it would anyone else. He plays it so perfectly, from the way he hunches to the way he speaks... nobody ever really captured how difficult pretending to be Clark must have been for Supes better than Reeve, and it's why he'll never be matched.

    There's something about that line that's just so perfect. I don't know why, but it kinda makes sense that Clark Kent would pretend to be so weak that he can't open a bottle but he can type faster than anyone.

      I think it's because Clark would want to come out as awkward and insecure, not incompetent. Some people got to see the awesome person under the awkwardness, but most got stuck with the awkwardness and that threw them off. It made him invisible and paid the bills.

      I look at this scene now and see the #metoo moment where Clark Kent "puts Lois in her place" by "accidentally" rubbing her up. ButI still love it. Then he's just staring at her. Kind of creepy, but it works to sell Kent as an obviously very handsome man who is REALLY weird, nerdy, and someone a woman wouldn't like upon first meeting. This is my favorite movie, and I still catch nuances that I wouldn't have caught as a child. This staring moment is brilliant. He lets her know that he's interested by staring at her (a little creepy) right after feeling her up. It automatically makes him less desirable. And, of course, Superman is a total gentleman (even after looking at her pink panties.). I say they're brilliant choices, all around. I even saw the guy in a red shirt try to give Jimmy his tea. I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH!!!

    The "why would anyone want to make a total stranger look like a fool" line is so subtle but so powerful:
    It illustrates the evolution of the character of Clark, that he has absorbed his father's teachings and is able to cite them. The transformation scene was pushed by dialouge, but a movie excells when it can illustrate a character's thought process quickly and efficiently.

    As great as Christopher Reeve was as Superman and he was amazing, i have to say he was even better as Clark Kent, the awkward posture and shyness with the whole goofy behaviour and nerdy voice is top notch, he really makes you believe that the two of them are not the same guy and that they're two separate people. Very few guys in my opinion have been able to master that except maybe Brandon Routh as he is quite possibly the closest to nailing both personas but Christopher Reeve is and always will be the undisputed man.

    • @APRICEPRODUCTION
      @APRICEPRODUCTION 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @Zesanactor Over-5 You're obviously watching the wrong films my friend, Hollywood today is more about the CGI and visual effects, over the heart and story sadly... On rare occasions like Avengers Infinity and Endgame... audiences today are focused more on the action than the story and heart. Sad times we live in but that's the reality of Hollywood and that's what makes money.
      Henry Cavill's whilst his Superman has the potential to be a good Superman, Zack Synder's Man of Steel lacked in Superman what the film was originally meant to be about... HOPE. Kevin Costner's Jonathan Kent was the type of father that would put his son down on every turn.... Lacked inspiration....
      Believability doesn't come into it when you're making a comic book movie, e.g like Superman or Avengers... it's about Suspension of disbelief.. of course you can make elements real, but the comic book factor is always there.
      The reason Christopher Reeve Superman was and is still greatly loved by fans, isn't just because he had the look to play the character. He played it with heart, HOPE and humanity. Storytelling and the relationship between the characters was as vastly as important as the visuals.
      Audiences today have far shorter attention spans with big budget effects films, where Hollywood has become more focused on fast pacing action scenes,. Many actors are even replaced on screen nearly completely with CGI.. There is great CGI, but because of the fast pacing industry, there is sadly a lot of poor CGI as well e.g Justice League....
      However you're wrong, e.g films like Avatar made it's money because of it's great leaps in new 3D technology at the time, story wise it was ok, but it made it's money based on it's visuals.
      Smaller Hollywood films have and do make profits, but they don't make the money that big budget Superhero films which rely heavily on visual effects which is what sells over story in most cases.

    Yes, Christopher Reeves not only looked the part(s), but actually played both with real elan and wit - very much echoing Cary Grant in his "Bringing Up Baby" persona, as Clark. No Superman since has managed that so well, and Henry Cavill? Huh. Just a tall, dark and gruesome clothes horse - very much, as another has said here, simply a swimsuit/underwear model with no charisma or acting chops at all. He can pull a face but that's about it. You don't get a sense of him living a part from within. And he's far too smugly pleased with himself ("Look at me, I'm SO good-looking...").
    And Margot Kidder? Just fabulous: an engaging, intelligent wit shining through. As a TV trailer-maker, years ago, my trails for "Superman" were very much built around the Reeves/Kidder scenes, because they were so good.... and, yes, kudos must go to casting, scripting, directing, and, of course, to the performance of these two - who were both so perfect, and unbeatable, in these roles. Christopher Reeves' life-changing accident was a terrible thing... and I'm so sorry we've now lost the wonderful, unforgettable Margot Kidder....

I don't like him more than Christopher Reeve, but he is good. Comparing the older Superman movies with the more recent ones is not so much an issue of the main actor, but society as a whole and the way movies are made which have changed over the years.

    0:57 $40 a week in 1978 is $184 and some change in 2023. Jimmy's working sweatshop wages.

      $40 must have been considered a lot during the 70s probably.

    This is good acting! The way Clark smirks when he said his mom was silver hair, the moment he says swell. The moment he relaxes that’s Clark! Superman has presence and Clark kent mild mannered. This is the farm boy everyone loves!

    Why I love Christopher Reeve Superman. Clark the nerd comes first. He has power but dials it down to make people feel comfortable then cranks it up when he needs to.. cause he's at his core Nice.
