  • Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao? Who was the greater boxer?
Such frequent debates often boil down to a discussion over which accomplishment was greater? The perfect unblemished 50-0 record of the great Floyd Mayweather Jr? Or the unprecedented accomplishment of the great Manny Pacquiao becoming the only 8 division champion during the long rich history of boxing? Will either boxing record ever be broken? And how do these landmark accomplishments compare to some of the other incredible achievements in boxing history?
This episode of Rummy's Corner was written, narrated, and produced by Geoffrey Ciani (aka - Rummy).

For example Robinson had lot of losses But he fought some of the top fighters In their prime he lost a couple but he made improvements and came back and won. Because he was able to be higher level fighters that's why he is Ranked higher than undefeated Boxers.

I think Jimmy Wilde won something like 92 fights before he ever had a loss. Julio Caeser Chavez had 89, and Willie Pep was 62-0. It's still impressive for Mayweather to go 49-0 like Marciano did, but it's insane to me that a former Flyweight could win titles in eight divisions (skipping two along the way), and five lineal titles- and often NOT on points: he was beating the shit out of and brutally KO-ing Hall of Fame fighters like Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya, Cotto. He flattened Hatton, knocked down the granite-chinned Mosley, and completely battered and broke the orbital bone of Margarito: a guy who weighed 17 pounds more than him on fight night. And all as a former FLYWEIGHT!
Floyd was smarter at the fight GAME: choose your fights carefully, hit and don't get hit, make your money, and get out. He was an outstanding defensive points boxer. But I don't equate him as the same level of legend that Pacquiao is and will always be. To be great you have to dare to be great and challenge yourself, and I don't think Floyd ever took any big chances and really challenged himself. Everything was extremely and thoughtfully calculated.
Still, two all-time legends for different reasons!

Floyd was awesome when he was a young champion but as he got older he picked fights at the right time, picking up a title at 140 against a weak champion in Gatti, had a close fight with an inactive Del La Hoya to pick up a title at 154, had he beaten the likes of Hatton and Marquez at 140 he would probably get more credit for those wins, Marquez had to gain 17 pounds to fight Floyd, Canelo was inexperienced at high level when he fought Floyd at a catch weight, and even arguably lost to Lara after that fight, and then deciding to fight Berto who was not even top 5 at that time instead of Brook, Porter, Bradley, Garcia or Thurman who were all deserving of a fight with Floyd.

@@CipherCerberus You're stacking the deck a bit there, aren't you? An apparently middling superhero movie like Morbius? Why don't you compare 2001 to a genuine action movie classic like say, Terminator 2? If I said that I personally thought Terminator 2 was a better movie than 2001 even though 2001 was arguably greater art, would that be wrong? I don't think so.
First Kubrick and now The Beatles? Are you a Brit or something? I'd rather listen to a lot of other music than The Beatles (not Bruno Mars or Maroon 5 though, ha) and I don't think that means I'm passing up fine art for schlock. I respect their contributions to band music, but there have been many great bands. There have also been many great singers/songwriters besides McCartney and Lennon.
Anyhow, I don't think art should be an excuse for something being less exciting (though I will say that the HAL section in 2001 is definitely not boring as there's some genuine suspense there). Nor should a movie being exciting necessarily be held against it for not being serious enough. Rather, one should give credit to both art AND entertainment.
That's why both Mayweather and Pacquiao can be appreciated for their strengths even if someone thinks Mayweather is boring or that Pacquiao's fighting technique isn't as artful. Who you think was "better" then depends on how you personally decide to weigh their achievements.

I only know. Mayweather had a marathon in that fight! And he won. Awesome! I interviewed many people after that fight and 95% of the people said that too.

Armstrong weight climbing was most impressive. If he could make featherweight during the fight day weigh-in era, imagine how small he was at welterweight

@@Wanderpupil Armstrong held multiple world titles in boxing when there were 8 divisions and only one belt per division. Plus, Armstrong fought the middleweight title holder for the belt and got a draw (most who saw the fight thought Armstrong was robbed of a victory.) Nowadays there are 4 titles (plus the lineal champion which sometimes holds no titles) per weight class and 17 weight classes. Pacquiao’s record is definitely impressive, but if current trends continue, then there will be even more belts and weight classes in the future, which likely means we will be getting another 8-division champ sometime into the future.

@Youbig Dummy th-cam.com/video/fJDTzWRWc34/w-d-xo.html Floyd ducked Manny. why duck him until he was out of his Prime if he feels like he can beat him. It is like ducking Ali in his Prime and only fought him after he is over the hill. fighting Prime Ali and fight Over the hill Ali is completely different.
