  • Made this video for anyone else working on an older bobcat with chain or axle issues. I tried searching online for anyone with the same issues and couldnt find any videos so I made this really quick to help anyone else having trouble.

Thanks for this, I wish I had seen it when I did my 443 18 months ago. It too had all of the rollers loose in the case and more water than oil. In fact, I unfortunately had to do my work outside and in January in the midwest, so it was easy to pull the oil sludge out because it was 100% ice. I did of course clean it all up like you but didn't have the tools to separate the case from the machine. Our machines look very similar though. To get my rear sprockets off, I had to use a 15/16 and grind about 20% off the width of the closed end so it could fit between the bolts as they were so close together. The source of the water is unknown but I suspect all of these older machines get water in them somehow.

It can be a real PITA to do but definitely worth it. A working skidsteer is worth its weight I gold sometimes. Glad you were able to get yours up and going!

It didn't bust the chain house all to he'll where the motors mount. I have a 453 that's ruined. Piece of Shot. Don't buy a bobcat. Mane to break

They certainly do that sometimes. The 743 had its drive motors redesigned as 1 result of that. They have a separate gearbox to reduce the strain and flex on the motor/housing.

Good job man. I did this same thing about 2 years ago. My machine has the Mitsubishi gas motor and its doing good. Just wondering what isuzu motor you put in and what else did you need to get it going. Id love to start piecing together a swap for when i go in to rebuild my control valve.

Thanks! This one originally had the Mitsubishi. I swapped a Isuzu 3LB1, there were some modifications I had to do in order to make it fit but it was done in a night easily. It's out currently because of the chain case repair and a new paint job. I always prefer Kubotas but this runs very well and was given to me by a friend.

Where did you order your chain?
I'm in the same boat atm.

I actually bought it right on Amazon. There are 2 types, regular and heavy duty. I paid a little extra for the HD because I don't want to do this again haha.

The front can be done pretty easily in the machine but the back ones are a pain. I also am going to repaint the entire machine and want to get in deep to clean everything. It made sense to remove the entire chain case. Also I'm redoing all the bearings and axle seals as well. Another issue is my chain case was full of sludge and contaminants so it made it nice to really be able to get in and clean it out 100%. I just got the new 80h chain today so I will do an update video soon.

Too Many Projects Too Little Time thanks I’m doing a full paint and rebuild aswell 643, I’m going to fit the ecoboost 2.0 engine we have here in Aus. Did you get to the rear bolts yet to work out replacement?

Too Many Projects Too Little Time where did you get your chain from?

Too Many Projects Too Little Time awesome when unbolting the top did you have to remove the inspection cover?

@@350hlx I did not get replacement bolts yet but any grade 8 bolt of the same size should be fine. I already had the front inspection cover removed before I dropped the chain case so I am unsure if it must be removed or not. The rear inspection cover does not have to be removed though. The chain is #80 roller chain and I got #80h which is the same size just heavier, I ordered it through amazon.
