Amazing voice and the chemistry with everyone on stage. God bless you in heaven Carl ❤ I had the fortune to see your brother Brian perform twice and that was amazing
My God! Carl Freaking Wilson! He embodies class, professionalism, and was enabled by one of the greatest voices in rock history! This is so emblematic of what i feel his Life was like at the time. Having a second crack at the brass ring as a solo artist, but knowing in his Heart he is a Beach Boy. He also knew his big brother Brian was fighting a losing battle with drugs, food, and mental illness, and his middle brother being just a few months away from an untimely, but not altogether shocking death as Dennis was the Wild child. At one point during this diabolical dance routine, Carl almost looks embarrassed but he soldiers on, and sends us skyward with that last "Heavenly"! There aren't many Angels, but Carl Wilson, most certainly was one.
Carl Wilson without his guitar is a different sight to see but it doesnt matter, this man had music in his soul, no instrument required! Miss you Carl, gorgeous inside and out!
@@garysnow1475 I was thinking the opposite. LOL! I say that, even though Carl is my favorite singer, and favorite Beach Boys. But his solo stuff was, meh! I like Heaven, Giving You Up and She's Mine. Other than that, I'm not really into.
OK...Here's the lineup of Carl's band in this Solid Gold video. From left to right: BILLY HINSCHE on Keyboards (Who remembers Dino, Desi & Billy?) MYRNA SMITH SCHILLING on Vocals (R.I.P. to a true Sweet Inspiration in heaven singing with Elvis & Carl!) CARL WILSON (What else can be said about a true legend?!) ALAN KRIGGER on Drums (a head bangin' metal head who played pop better than most!) MICHAEL VILA on Bass (Yours Truly) BRUCE GOWDY on Guitar (Great player and a great guy!) GEO CONNOR on Guitar (Came to the band after a stint with Peter Noone. Great style and technician!) Best gig of my music life. Carl was a joy to work with and I look back on this time as more than just my 15 minutes. I cherish the memories and the camaraderie of this band. R.I.P. Carl Wilson...the angels must be delighted to have your voice with them!
@@bobmaskara6955 Thanks, Bob, for the comment and the inquiry. I was invited to audition through drummer Alan Krigger as I was playing in top 40 cover bands and doing hired gun work in the Los Angeles and Orange County scenes from 1975 through 1983. The audition took place at Leeds in North Hollywood and though I didn't give myself much chance, Carl and his management team thought otherwise and offered me the job. We rehearsed for a week at Caribou Ranch in Colorado and from there went on the road headlining small venues and opening for the band America in larger ones. It was a great time with some great folks, indeed!
@@michaelvila8761 That is so incredible! Did you somehow know or did Carl say that being a solo artist was just for a short time Also, would Love to know what stories you may have of meeting Dennis, or any of the other Beach Boys be it in person or if Carl mentioned them and you could relay a story or two that way. Thanks again!
I wonder how many times Carl asked himself how it all would have been had he remained a single, with his fantastic group. -----He was clearly having the time of his life, & after all the drama of The Boys, it had to be so liberating for him. ----------Miss you more as time goes, Carl Wilson. THE heart of The Boys. --------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o
This was Carl with his band just after he had re-joined The Boys. RIP Carl & Myrna . Both looked like they were having such a great time doing this! -------WolfSky9
I often wondered what would have happened had Carl remained a solo artist, instead of returning to The Boys, in the summer of '82, as the group was in real trouble without him ! -----------he WAS The Beach Boys, to me. Since he passed, I have not seen the group. --------RIP, Carl Wilson.-------MJL, 75 y/o
Carl was 36 y/o at the time this was filed for " SG". -------He was already back with The Boys, but his albums were both successes. ------------------WolfSky9i, 71 y/o
Written by ex-u.s. senator and member of Orleans John Hall who I got to meet at a USPS building dedication. Also saw him open for Beach Boys in Middletown NY , and MC'd by Cousin Brucie. This song is also a staple of the "Shaggers" in North and South Carolina performed by the Embers using the Carl Wilson arrangement of the song. Unfortunately Carl's solo efforts had great moments, but not strong as some will say. He and Peter Cetera both went solo around the same time- Cetera had a string of hits, while the best Jerry Schilling could get for Carl was a semi-duet on Olivia Newton John's worst album and some writing credits for his wife. Kinda sad, but very true. But it does look like Carl enjoyed being away from the BB's for awhile.
Thanks for adding this information! Was teaching in public schools and this was #1 in the hallways for after school activities for an entire school year! They repeatedly played this song over and over again. After awhile, some of the other songs on the Youngblood album were also played. What a year to remember! 😊❤ Did not realize Shaggers we’re doing this song! Wish Charlie Womble and Jackie McGee would have danced to this song on video!
Carl's first wife was Annie Hinsche, sister of Billy. Coincidentally, Carl's second wife (and widow) was Gina Martin, daughter of Dean and sister of Dean Paul Martin, who like Billy Hinsche was a member of the group Dino, Desi & Billy.
Might be from the ‘80’s, but I’m still playing this very, very often! Wish Carl had done much more solo throughout the years even if he returned to the BB’s! 😊❤ He could have given Mike a chance to stand on the side with a tambourine or other instrument and done some solos himself without a guitar! A very different twist for the BB’s, but who knows how that would have taken off!😊❤
Carl could have been huge, had he remained as a single performer, but the family bond brought him back to The Boys. ------------------------------WolfSky9,72 y/o
I'm a big fan of Carl, but as a Beach Boy. I don't think he was interesting that much as a solo performer. Dennis was the only Beach Boy who had potential to go on solo. Even though, I think this song of Carl had a potential of becoming Top 40 hit and probably Top 20 in AC charts.

Wow😮 how gorgeous was he. Absolutely stunning. Miss you carl❤😢🌹
He was beautiful. Very pleasing to the eyes. And the sweet way that he spoke, I would have been head over hills for him if I knew him personally.

One correction. John Hall was a congressman, not a senator.

Carl? No guitar? Doesn't look like Carl without a guitar.
Raaay
They should have released the killer “what more can I say” as a single and pushed the AOR angle. This is one of the worst songs on that whole album. 😖
