I'm originally from Pittsburgh, and it's fun to see these synths getting so much attention. It's also fun that these synths do a good job of showing the character of the city. Pittsburgh is kind of quirky and weird, a lot of character, and often tends to punch above its weight. So a powerful and weird synth with a lot of character that has the word Pittsburgh on it is kind of perfect.
Love those packages for newbies that are clueless about modular, starting with me!! I'd definitely love to get my hands on a PM Voltage 2, I'll start saving some money. Thanks for sharing Bo!
Great UI! Brilliant, unique features! The step sequencer is really, realky great. Glad that it’s fully-modular. Should integrate with any modular rack and bring sonething new.
Thanks, Bo, for introducing us to an interesting new instrument. The possibilities seem so endless as to be overwhelming. How much time did you invest in learning about it before making this demo video? That little Korg oscilloscope kit is appealing too!
I'm looking forward to this video, but I'm going to have to wait until Christmas for buying one, unless a heavy discount happens between now and then. Have fun at Superbooth and hope to see a lot more this week from your channel.
Super intuitive and clean UI. 3 sequencers, what's not to like? Personally not the sound I like, but pedals would make this come alive imo. Thx for the clean presentation, looks like something usable in the modular world. Thx for the upload Bo.
Hm, that second oscillator, at 5:31 is interesting; the waveforms obtained are very similar to those on the Roland D50, labeled saw and square there, when sampled from the analog outputs! But, i agree with you, in terms of the signal's frequency spectrum it is rather dull. i would expect a nice result when oscillator 1 is used as carrier and oscillator 2 as a modulator.
Nice! But I'm a little doubtful about the placement of the patch bay, we see in the video that access to the knobs will be complicated. Why not do like Moog and put the bay to the side?
Dammmmmm no kidding. And I thought the keyboard with the module bay was bad this is some serious fuel for gas. Better turn this off, open my iPad and play with MiRack instead 🤣
If you are completely new to modular and are wanting to really learn and actually master the fundamentals of analog synthesis then a solid custom setup initially for learning then expand later can be had for half this cost. If you already TRULY understand the fundamentals (no small number of hours to get that place) then an intermediate system can be had for significantly less; either with spare HP as your knowledge/needs/wants grow.
I like the design and features, but... If this is your modular gateway it is NOT a good learning system. (You will get some cool sounds; some by accident and some on purpose) A good first/learning system can be done for half this then expanded to and beyond these capabilities as mastery grows. For those with some analog synthesis/modular mastery your rig may already do all this OR if not at all you could easily replicate it from scratch (and quite a bit more) using all premium grade modules for $500 or so more.
The part in the middle was great. where it was being played over the parts where you were breaking down the features just competed with the sounds of the synth. Just an opinion.
BO! U REALLY want to like ur chan.. so. Please, when ur demoing a product, be a purist. Don't intermingle other reverbs, drum units..etc... I love ur style of presentation so I felt I had to give this constructive criticism. Not to mention I'm a Pittsburgh Modular fanboy..so. Peace brother!
I think its pretty good to hear things in some sort of context. I don’t plan on keeping it pure. It bores me and makes no sense. Especially when I think the total demos are a small part of the entire video.
@@BoBeats thx for responding! Stick to ur thing. Don't let anyone, especially me (duuuhhh) tell u different. ;) I just like to hear the product, without other factors coloring the sound. Matter of taste I guess.
I'm kinda with you here, I wasn't sure if this was a demo for the new Pittsburgh Modular or for Elektron. I'm thankful for the free content, but I also look forward to hearing some demos with just the VL2
Seems perfectly reasonable to me when compared to other stuff that’s out there. A make noise o-coast, with an o-ctrl and a Strega sets you back $1500. And this has a lot more going on than that trio. And it’s cheaper than an Intellijel Cascadia which costs $2149 which it’s similar to but again that has less going on

Really great overview, thanks! Don’t know what people are complaining about with the Digitakt - I thought it help put things in context.
That is a lovely looking machine
This is the best review of the controller I've seen so far. Very helpful! It's really hard to get a bad sound out of the VL2. Really digging it!
This company always impressed me.
This looks so cool 🤩 I really like the layout and how the aesthetic matches the Taiga. Would love to get my hands on one of these.

Fantastic use of it, Bo. Love your examples. This thing seems like an absolute beast.

Honestly: A LOT of time. But it was worth it in the end I think.
So cool. Thanks for this great video!
Great work here sounds fantastic
Yooo that's so cool. Epic video as per usual Bo. Sick music
Thank you!!

These Pittsburgh Modular synths seem to have a unique sound or "soul" that is quite characteristic. It's just getting better and better!
I didn't even realize it had feet.

Great video
Bo todays video's are upsetting my bank manager! lolz this looks immense

Interesting to see how other musical worlds work but definitely not for me.
How many HP is it? I'm assuming its Eurorack compatible?
Each section is 90 HP and fully EuroRack compatible.
We are still trying NOT to go modular right? This doesn't help at all. Thx Bo!
Dammmmmm no kidding.
And I thought the keyboard with the module bay was bad this is some serious fuel for gas. Better turn this off, open my iPad and play with MiRack instead 🤣
Mary Shelley's *Voltage Lab 2; or, The Modular Prometheus*
Bob now that you ate, how did it taste
Do these innovations in the oscillators really matter much. I haven't heard anything yet that would lead me to think so.
Annnnnnnnnnnnd just like that my savings account is emptied lol
0:12
This one catches my attention, but is it my imagination or it sounds harsher than lifeforms used to?
I had a similar issue thought. The oscillators sound thin to me but I’m looking for thoughts on that

Lol these beats 🤣
Harbor Freight making synths now? Jk lol Pittsburgh
So this........or spend 2k on a custom built modular system?
If you are completely new to modular and are wanting to really learn and actually master the fundamentals of analog synthesis then a solid custom setup initially for learning then expand later can be had for half this cost. Def not for a newbie (that's me) :) someday tho.....

It is definitely not for the beginner, thats for sure
original is better and takes up less hp, also harder to get.
Ugh. I wish he left the digitakt stuff off the video.
You mean so the video would have ZERO music demos? Alright…
Ugh, I wish you had not left a comment. Digitakt was a welcome addition.
I didn’t mind it for the interludes but it does seem to over power the sections where you are demonstrating features of the synth itself.
The part in the middle was great. where it was being played over the parts where you were breaking down the features just competed with the sounds of the synth.
Just an opinion.
@@mf8145 alright I get what you mean. Interlude OK but using a beat while showing a few of the functions wasn't helpful.
Built in china?
