oh man they've done it this time, I'm not sure everyone grasps the monstrocity of this achievement by Pittsburg Modular. In the 10 years that I have been doing Modular this is a true Milestone in analogue synthesis. As if the Taiga wasnt enough, Im gonna have to get this one also. Thanks for the no bullshit video Jorb !!
THAT....SOUNDS....ABSULTELY........A M A Z I N G ! 😮 Bravo Bravo Bravo Pittsburg Modular has just become my favorite synthesizer manufacture - and then some ! 👏👏👏
The only thing you can really compare it to is some of the work by Analogue Solutions. But Pittsburgh’s circuits are always 5-10 years ahead of the curve, if not more. I have the smaller module they made based upon center clipping (Flamingo), and it’s genius. Never been done before in an analog synth. I use it for generating harmonics with any sound source. You can pass any sound source through this system. Guitar, bass, vocal, anything.
13:49 no no, i think "the butte" is exactly what we call that wave from now on, I've been calling it a super trapezoid and that's far too many syllables.
This thing SOUNDS and LOOKS fantastic, in fact it looks so good that i wanted to mention that first. I have a carpet in these colours so im kinda biased.
Brilliant bit of kit! I think a Zoia Euroburo would make a phenomenal pairing with this, to make up for VL's limited effect section and add some more voicing. The combo would probably be the only modules I'd ever need if I ever take the plunge into Eurorack.
@@JorbLovesGear it goes hard as all fuck bro. Aaaaaaaaah. I unfortunately have run out of space after getting literally every device from soma laboratories. It's all good I don't get my film scoring check for another ten days or so, then I'll decide. Time to rearrange the room again. But yeah ideally I wanna get the model D and the Pittsburg stuff, I feel like I could LEARN so much by getting to use the modular set up.
I don't actually know if they're going to be available seperately.. I don't think so though. Go half and half with someone who just wants the sounds haha
Hey I don't mean to be ignorant but I've always wondered why you would buy a modular synth over building out your own mod rack or buying something way simpler like a Korg or Roland. I'm just getting into synths so I'm a bit of a noob...
There's a few parts here, modular vs fixed architecture is such a different experience to sit and use. Patching seperate modules is a chance to experiment, to be surprised by what you can plug in. Why buy a complete modular system over individual modules, there's something to be said for an instrument being designed as complete, designed to work with the rest of the modules in the unit. Often it's cheaper than the component parts would be seperately, or here in the VL2 they just don't all exist as modules
@@JorbLovesGear Good to know, I always just thought synths like the VL2 were a weird mid-ground between full mod setups and straight up keyboard synths, it's all very complicated so thanks! Love your channel by the way!
I love random parameters and sequencers. Somebody should just invent a synth called RANDY, where total control is both undesirable and impossible. Yes, some Lyra-8 vibes lol.
I was wanting functionality where you could select any of the chromatic notes you wanted, and the red and yellow knobs and scan inputs would be limited to that. For example, I could select only a triad, and turning the red or yellow knobs (or the scanning) would select between those three notes across multiple octaves.
@@geerhoar I'm pretty sure it'll do that. I'd suggest hitting up the Pittsburgh Modular folks after Super Booth and ask that specifically. If you're in Berlin, you could check for yourself in person 😁

I know that feeling wholeheartedly
So you would never buy this? 😂

I have none of those things, and yet I suspect I'll buy it anyway 😬

They really are on the cutting edge, and making cool choices while they're at it.
Wow.. the scan input cv control patch really blew my mind. Thank you!

The touch pad controller/sequencer is DOPE
It's crazy deep, I really started to love it
That sounds great. I hope they release the oscillator 1 as a module. If I was still playing wind synth in a band I'd definitely get that.
Good stuff ❤❤❤
Good to hear some actually fucking music played on this thing
This sounds nice :)
Mine arrives Friday!!
Im dying for part 2! When is it gonna drop?!
How do the knobs feel? Do they wobble a bit like Make Noise modules?
They're super solid panel mounted pots. And the knobs themselves feel great
@@JorbLovesGear That's good to hear! Are they hard plastic or have rubber on them?
Im stuck between buying a moog model d, or a taiga keys and voltage lab combo.
I know its totally diff, but man I only have so mucb space.

What if I'm only interested in the touch controller? Too bad, I'd love to have a bigger, more flexible MN 0-Control.

Are you able to set your own scales for the quantizer?
Yes, there are a bunch of ways to tune the Touch Controller. Chromatic, major, minor, microtonal, you can set the key signature and more.

The only way to be able to afford a lot of synths these days is to become an influencer/reviewer.
Or an actual musician who can use them!
