  • A great look, at driven pheasant shooting in the 1980s. This time Jack charlton is shooting, on an estate in wales. And what an amazing estate it is. The times change, but the game remains the same.
    .Enjoy.

    Wow! When was this recorded! £100 a day! You'd be laughing nowadays if that were the price! 😅 Lovely video
    (edit: I looked it up - 1983. And it's Bobby Charlton's brother, Jack Charlton!)

    Hi Scott. i just added your channel to my subscriptions yesterday after watching a couple of your videos on butchering. i also watched a few of your cooking videos. im an electrician by trade,working for AT&T now as an installer, but now i have to say im interested in the trade of butchering. i also used to be a cook,so i know my way around a kitchen. your videos are extremely interesting and entertaining, keep up the great work brother. Merry Christmas and Happy new year as well. P.S. im supposed to be on a diet but you totally ruined that for me yesterday after i watched the amazing things you create, lol

    Love how you have brought-in the old ways of hunting when it was popular in the UK. Jacks Game is an excellent series. We have not much here in the US to compare with it unless you go back to the 60s on television.
    The other thing is that Jacks Game shows the camaraderie of the hunters, the beauty of the countryside, and the manners of the UK people at that time.
    Dave Carrie Shooting is another channel for proper English wingshooting. It makes me wish that I had the time and money to do a driven Red Grouse shoot.
    Or just be able to walk those fields with the sheep and take in your beautiful countryside.
    I will be going on a shoot this Thursday and hope to use one of your recipes for the game I harvest.
    Just for fun........Escoffier's cookbook. I use it occasionally for sauces. And other things. :-)

    Very good. Can just about remember watching it originally. Funny how very little has changed in the last 30 years, though Jack's gun handling would probably get commented on. I doubt anyone could tell him much though!

    Random Thought: Roast a pumpkin with a pheasant inside. I watched your video about a snipe roasted in a potato.

    we have pheasant and quail shoots here in ohio. I know the game keeper who organizes the shoots to train the dogs. I need to go on the shoots this next year. watching these videos has given me a good view of how the times have changed, and how some traditions have stayed the same. great series scott !!

    Surely only shooting low birds (in safe shooting angles, of course) is the ethical thing, not the other way around? You minimize the number of wounded birds that way.

    • @kikazz91
      @kikazz91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the thing, shooting low is inherently not a "safe shooting angle" because there are people on that angle and you're going to increase the likelihood of somebody getting shot, especially if you're using shotguns like these guys. The temporary pain of the bird is worth not making the sport any more dangerous than it is.

    • @Theorimlig
      @Theorimlig 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the "no birds under 45 degrees" rule is fair enough, but the people in the video kept going on about how much more fair it is to the animals. That's the part I don't understand.

    • @kikazz91
      @kikazz91 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because they let them live instead of just shooting at everything that moves, it's just being a responsible sportsman.

    • @Theorimlig
      @Theorimlig 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      But that's my point, taking the easy shots is way more humane (in this case) than being sporting, although there is certainly room for that as well.

    • @rogerbeckner6419
      @rogerbeckner6419 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Theorimlig It gives the animals a chance to survive, because higher angles are harder for us humans to compute and make a firing decision.
      A 75 degree angle with a bird flying at 35 MPH is a daunting task, even for a decent shot.
