The carpet color is Harvest Gold. Your choice at the time was that, Avocado Green, or Orange. You could match all your appliances, sinks, toilets, and bathtubs to your carpet.
We had some sick hot pink carpet back then, it matched the hot pink Formica in the kitchen.
Omgosh, now that's some interior decorating history! I bet they loved it when they put it in!
We got married in 1974 - our entire first apartment was Harvest Gold. Rugs, large appliances, small appliances…lol. Oh my.
@@janedrolet2807 yep. I got married in 1969. That means some of the harvest gold stuff is almost 60 years old!
Right. I had avocado appliances, and an orange shag area rug, the height of style. Wallpaper in the kitchen, one wall of the hall to the bedrooms, and one in the den-jungle print! was also bold, and I had an avocado feature wall in the living room. This was 1971 to 1981.
FYI, you should have used a scoring tool to make little holes in the wallpaper border before spraying it. That would have made it much easier to remove. I love this kind of video.
It's really coming along, Casey and Alan. The carpet under carpet was wild. YIKES. I think it's a good idea that you started doing the flooring in the bedrooms; by the time you get to the main living spaces, you guys will be pros at installation. Keep up the good (and dirty!) work! I hope you have an air purifier.

An idea is to put the brand name and color of paint on a piece of tape on the back of the room's light switch plate. No guessing of paint color. I make a story board of my paints, fabrics, floor color, etc. easier to take with to match, shop, and check colors when out. Hello from Mason!

As far as wallpaper removal goes, sometimes it was better to just use hot water and a spray bottle, but sometimes using diluted fabric softener also helped a lot! And a wallpaper scorer tool. So proud of you guys!
I may have to try those methods if I ever have to remove wallpaper again! We put an offer on a different house before this one that had lots of wallpaper that had been painted, and I'm now so glad we didn't get that house haha.
I just purchased a "fixer upper", and I can feel your pain. I ask myself a hundred times a day (or hour depending where I'm working) why would anyone not do the job correctly the first time.. I also try not think to much about the dirt and filth, so that I don't start disliking my new home. LOL
You both are doing a great job. I look forward to the videos. I'm having memories of when I purchased my first house and did lots of the repairs/remodel myself. At that time, I worked with older men who gave me lots of help, good advice and suggestions. Keep at it.
I've had so many folks at Home Depot give me so much helpful advice, and I even had a conversation with another customer when I was picking out wood for some cabinets I'm planning to build (he was so nice and steered me straight on the right wood to buy!). And of course, commenters here! :)
Casey you will love your floors! We installed the same floors in our current home 5 years ago and it still looks beautiful. We have a 80 pound bloodhound so definitely the floors get a workout. We are building a new house and will put in the same flooring. Congrats on your home.
Me too! I’ve had it for about six years now due to my dog and cat…best decision EVER! It is bulletproof and looks great throughout my entire home.

Just found d your chanel today and new sub. We bought a house last fall built in 1965 from the 2nd owner who was in her 80’s. So many similarities to your home. After painting all ceilings, all walls, changing locks, light fixtures and new flooring it is still not finished but we have been living in the house for 6 months and still so much to do!

Looking so good! Hot water and vinegar in a spray bottle will get that wallpaper off. I bought a 110 year old home and the one room had at least a dozen layers of paper on it. I ended up having to rent a wallpaper steamer because of it. Plus there was paint between some of the layers. It was a nightmare. 🤦♀🫣 I love how the house is shaping up for you and the new floors and paint make a huge difference and really open up the rooms and make them so much more light and airy. 🥰❤👍

Watching your progress is much more enjoyable than working on my own, haha! I'm a year into my "new" house renovation. The house was built in 1982 and I have found some weird stuff, too. I scraped painted joint compound texture off of 2 layers of floral and gingham wallpaper in the kitchen which took FoReVer, but completely changed the look of the area. It's amazing how much you learn doing most of the work yourself! I used LVP throughout the downstairs except for bathrooms and laundry room and I absolutely love it. This will probably be the last time I buy a fixer upper. I'm so tired. 😅

I love to paint! I get such a sense of accomplishment when I see the clean, happy new paint up on the wall. My husband and I moved into my childhood home in 1997, my father built it with my uncles in 1962. At the time, we lived in the partially finished basement as they worked on the upstairs. I was a toddler but have a lot of memories. My dad hadn’t changed anything before it came into our hands, and it needed a lot of work. He put 1960’s wood paneling on all the walls, and I painted over them all. The ceiling was the hardest to paint, it seemed to suck in the paint and took me forever. We did not take the old kitchen cabinets out but I painted over the stained wood and it’s lasted well. When we took up the old carpet, we found my toddler footprints on the dining room floor! I must have gotten into the paint. I don’t remember that, lol. But I was always getting into things when they were all trying to built it. You will look back on this and have great memories and have a wonderful sense of accomplishment!

You’re doing a great job! This series is bringing back so many memories of the first house we bought. So exhausting but also so rewarding! I remember being so excited by simple wins, like there only being one layer of carpet in one of the bedrooms. You literally feel like you won the lottery when those things happen!

You're so talented; I just watched all 7 videos.
I had to scrape up that black pad stuff in a large room last year. The most efficient way by far was to scrap off the top layer and then spray it down with water and let it soak a bit. I would scrape one section while another was soaking. I also used a steam cleaner, which sped up the process a bit more.
I'm going to be doing the same things next month when my house (hopefully!) closes, so I'm definitely watching so many of these kinds of videos. 😁

I loved watching your remodel videos. I watched the kitchen demo first and good Lord I could tell those cabinets were built to last on there...Oh btw, I really love your wide plank flooring. When we did our floors I fell in love with a wood called "tiger wood" but at the time I couldn't get it in the wide plank so we got the regular size...it still looks beautiful but oh how I envied your floors. Can't wait to see the next video and how you decorate everything. You are going to be beside yourself when you get moved in. Hope your mother in law's leg is healing well. See ya next video.

So interesting and tiring! We’ve done a few Reno’s and it’s a lot of work! We did vinyl flooring in our house, bathroom and entry and have never been sorry, very durable. It’s been 10 years and still looks the same

What a difference a coat of light, neutral paint makes! 😊 The bodged jobs some people do in the name of DIY (carpet on top of carpet? 🤔) beggar belief, not to mention colour schemes... But looking on the bright side, it does make the transformation so much more positive! 😊

We have that floor in our whole house and I love it. Paint actually comes up pretty easy from it. Ask me how I know. 😂 I am terrible at covering floors or taping stuff off when I am painting. I just keep a damp microfiber cloth close by when I am painting. But even if I have found dried drips it just comes right up. I have used a fingernail or a little plastic scraper and it just flicks off. We did a pretty big sewing room remodel in January/February (knocking down a wall, flooring, paint, etc.) and I don't envy you at all. 😅 Its a lot of work! It will be so good after you are all done.
I found a few tiny splatters on the floor, in spite of my best efforts haha, and it did come right up! We still have some parts of the floor covered out of extra precaution, but I feel like this stuff can withstand a lot!

Y'all are doing a great job! Reminds me of 14 years ago when I moved into my present home and slept in the basement on a blow up bed while ripping out paneling and carpeting so disgusting that I had to rip out the subflooring too. I had someone else install flooring and drywall but did all the sanding and painting of said drywalls--oh joya. Enjoy watching your progress and know you will look back and remember all the time and effort you put in.
Oh my. About 40 years ago, we did the same thing…with a newborn and a 4 year old in tow. The grossest thing was the shag carpet in the BATHROOM. Ugh! The paint is making a huge difference and the floors look great too.

We finally bought a small steamer to remove wallpaper because there were several layers in some rooms in the house we bought. Most of it was stuck pretty tight, too!😳 I sprayed and scraped so much that it was doing lots of damage in the master bathroom, so we decided we needed that steamer!🤦
That's a great idea! Luckily, we only had it in that hallway, thank goodness. I was getting overwhelmed on the day I was working on the wallpaper 😅

I've seen that glued on black foam underpadding on so many reno videos. I'm so glad my 1960's fixer upper didn't have any of that.

Vinegar and water mixed works great to remove wallpaper.
Great idea to get the samples and put on your floors. The hallway looks bigger once you took down the wallpaper & trim.

You can drop the housing of the ceiling fan so you can paint up under where it touches the ceiling. Cover the fan blades from splatters if you don't remove them.

We will be remodeling our house soon and thankfully I have only one room I have not touched since moving in 29 years ago. Its the room I dread the most. Those light fixtures are commonly known as the boob light. Lol.

You'll want to remove all the faceplates before painting. Tape the screws to the back so you don't lose them.
The windows are the same size, but originals would have slid sideways to open, which did look better.

😵 now that's just wrong on so many levels (layers)!!
You're a whiz with removing the trim without spoiling it. Someone could re-use it. Maybe you want to put some of it back on? If not, maybe Habitat for Humanity would like it, or the wood looking flooring you took up.
Luckily the trim came off *mostly* easily! My father in law is planning to reuse some of the flooring we are pulling up (it's been easy to pull up without damaging it, too).
I've seen flooring laid upon flooring. But never carpet on carpet. [facepalm]
PS: I think your house belies the ever-present real estate agent cry of "paint everything neutral! decorate your house for the next people!" advice. Sounds like they didn't even clean...
