A small battery is actually a really cool idea, here's why.
It gives you a reason to actually use the throttle! Imagine a huge analog charge guage for the battery level. As you're gaming, you have to manage the throttle to keep the charge level up. It would smooth out the spikes enough to make things like a particularly GPU-intensive action sequence actually something you could respond to before the power cut out if you didn't have enough throttle.

You need a governor. The same device small mower type engines have. Figure out what rpm you need, and adjust the governor to that. Should keep the power flowing without the need to manually throttle it, and you get the benefit of hearing the engine throttle up under load.

If you want to keep batteries out of the equation but make it work well you could use a big fly wheel and a speed controller that takes the voltage and rpm as inputs and sends a throttle command as an output!

I am a programmer from Ukraine. Last winter we had a big problem with electricity due to rocket attacks. In general, the idea of a gasoline energy source for my computer was very relevant for me. The reason why I am writing this is because at some point I had an idea to create something similar. But in the end, the best solution was a camping generator that also runs on gasoline. It is quite quiet, and when I turned on only the computer and lighting from it, it lasted 5 hours on one tank
