If you’re worried about the two different colours for the wingwalk, remember this, not all wing walk gets replaced at the same time. It could be just touched up in different spots while under way as a way to keep back corrosion. Or worse yet, only paint over bare sections. Corrosion is a big thing on aircraft out at sea.

Dryer paint usually gets the job done and it is very close to reality in appearance. The grainy texture is there and the surface thickness too.
My paints always level themselves :)
Interesting technique. I think the patchy look is plenty effective given the weathering of said walkways. Thanks for sharing, going to keep this video saved in case I ever get brave enough to try a phantom.

I've used Ammo's anti-slip paste. I carefully brushed a thin layer over walkway decals on the Airfix 1/48 Chipmunk - worked ok. They have different granularity for different scale effect.

Looks very good! In such cases i use the oposite part of the mask for "inverted masking" - i glue first the mask itself, then the outer part around it and then peel of the first one. In 0:25 i see your mask has even a pre-cutted rectangle around. You can save a lot of the masking effort this way!
Yup, I used part of the mask surround on the wing. I do not remember why I decided against it for the intake :)
A technique that I will try. I think that it's a very realistic, weathered look. This could also be used on modern warships, well Royal Navy at least, as their decks are dark grey non-slip painted.

@@MMScaleModels I have been trying to pick up pigment for a while but I don't online shop that much because of shipping costs but I must pick some up next time I do
I work in the aeronautical industry and I do concur that anti-slip materials are very rough and matt, but I remain convinced that in any reduced scale (at least down to 1:35/32) it should not look similarly rough. Probably a very matt finish for these areas is more than sufficient and appropriate for a scaled down reproduction, particularly if the finish of the surrounding areas is left satin so to be able to see the difference
I get where you are cominf from but I have a theory here 😂. Scateboard grip is 60 grit so if we multiply that by 48 we get 2880. Using my calibrated fingertip I can put the anti-slip at about 2000-2500 grit. For me that is fine enough. Of course everyone can use whatever finds suitable, I am giving a suggestion :)
Looks great Metodi and will try this on my current build which has a lot of nonskid on the wing and boarding ladder. My only question is why didn’t you use the outside of the vinyl mask to mask the walkways?
The curve I felt is too sharp and I expected lifting on the inner edges

What about a larger needle size in the airbrush, and perhaps increasing the pressure?
Possible but I like the control of the 0.2... probably for larger areas like the floor of a cargo plane it will be better to use 0.3

Haven't tried yet. Other than the pigment clumping beyond remixing I don't see a problem.
add a drop of flat varnish also.
Interesting, I consider the walkways dead flat. Do you think more is needed or it is for some other reason?
the varnish has more resin binder inside, just a drop its ok.
I think the effect he got is almost perfect. Have to remember that anti-slip is often partially made of rubber compounds and has more of a satin sheen than dead flat.
Not convinced that spraying powder through an airbrush is sensible.

Iy sprays, no problem.
If you've ever sprayed a metallic paint you've run something through your airbrush more abrasive than pigments.
don't learn what paint is made out of then, you'll never spray anything.
