Porsche just didn’t fully realize the seriousness of his job this episode. He is used to being his own person, not being told what to do and being free(?). But I’m glad he is starting to think “oh wow I actually need to try lol”
I think the first couple episodes is just getting us acclimated, world building, getting to know the characters. I think with each episode we’ll get further in the nitty gritty. Ep 3 definitely took it further and from the previews for 4 it’ll get more serious.
Yeah I defo think it’s easier to world build and get acquainted/relate with characters through humour. The trick will be how they switch to the more serious tone seamlessly without it feeling like it just jumped to it. It’s why History Trapped is almost everyone’s favourite show, there was a balance of both of those things
Porsche was not at all in his element here. It was his first day on being someone he never wanted to be in the first place. He despises the mafia world, but his love for his brother and making sure he's safe outweighs that. So he didn't really have a choice but to be dragged in Kinn's world. Trust me, he's very capable, and the dorkiness is just a warm up to the badassery he'll show. Ep 3 is out too!
i love kinnporsche but I recommend u to watch NOT ME is a masterpiece ( drama, action,) you would love it
I love NOT ME! I was in awe for so much of the series. I did expect more from the ending but still loved the journey!
I think the first few episodes are light and funny, because we are going through the episodes from Porches perspective, and for now He (Porche) still kinda see it as a joke and doesn't quite comprehend how serious it is. Once he starts to see the "real" life and situations he's now in, the series will become more what we expect.
My theory and opinion.
With the depth of tone that the book is, I appreciate the break (yes break ep.2). This isn’t Porsche’s world and he didn’t want it. Too, it really reflects how important Porsche is…he is constantly given 100 chances where any other person would be fired or worse. So far, in my opinion, the show balances comedy with gently giving us the mafia side, before the real sh*t starts…..coming from someone who’s read the novel.
I agree Porsche was a bit too clowny this episode but I don't think he really realizes the seriousness of the situation that he's in now. The choking at the end, I think, is his first real wake-up call.
I agree with all of this afterthoughts, a lot of people felt that disconnection because it's really different from what we expect specially when we are teased with all these dark adult type of BL. Porsche really has zero effort and interest for becoming Kinn's bodyguard, I really felt that it was out of character because Porsche is kind of a person who could adapt easily with his surroundings. But I still enjoyed the episode with all these goofiness and gayness of everybody in the Mafia.
I think it actually fits his character well. It's less about his abilities and more about how fundamentally he doesn't want to be in this situation. He hates everything that being good as a bodyguard stands for, and he hates the people he's meant to protect. By being there, Chey is safe and provided for. He doesn't have any desire to actually do any better until Kinn basically says that he's incapable of doing it, leading to him getting better out of spite because he's not about to be disrespected by the type of ppl he thinks so lowly of himself. And it's like you said, he does adapt easily to his surroundings. Once he accepts that this is his situation, he doesn't do stuff to actively antagonize to the point of him getting punished like he did before, and once he decides to put effort into his training, he excels with it. Just like my thoughts on his character, I guess.
Hottie who got pantsed is named Perth Nakhun. He was one half of a side couple in a BL called My Engineer. He speaks three languages; Aussie English is his first, then Thai and also some Japanese. He has his own YT and twitch channel where he switches between the three, though mainly speaks English.
You said exactly what I was gonna say. Yeah, Perth's great! It's fun watching him stream or even participating every now and then (I beat him in Smash Bros once 😁).
I am a native English speaking BL fan in Japan. So obviously, I follow Perth. lol
I get what you mean about the tone of the series but I think they are definitely setting us up to feel that way and then it’s gonna switch to a more serious tone as the plot develops more and i only feel that way because the way the choking scene through me off from the rest of the episode in terms of tone it made me feel like its all fun and jokes until it’s not. Kinn choked that man so hard he passed out and then walked away like it was nothing and despite the fact that he was saving him that tone switch really reminded that we are dealing with the fucking Mafia. While I am loving the humour coz it caught me off guard I am hoping it does switch to a more serious tone and if the switch is seamless this may be my favourite show. I completely agree with you about Porsche and his training! The only thing someone pointed out is that Porsche is 23 years old and although he’s had to grow up responsible for his brother the Mafia is a whole different ball game
I was also turned off by the comedy, to me it was a little too much. Hoping the next episodes are better.
Trust me I read the whole thing and it’s going by pretty fast we getting dark next episode
i personally LOVE the amount of fun and comedy in these first few episodes because these episodes are solely dedicated to worldbuilding and introducing characters, plus once the other episodes come out (i mean we’ve only seen 3 episodes 😂), and darker themes are introduced, they will be that much more impactful. and it was so interesting to hear that you didn’t like porsche’s rebelliousness because i really love it, but i understand why it frustrates you, he IS working for the mafia and it’s really jarring to see him not be very serious in such an environment. i’m sure the show will get much more serious and dark in later episodes. great reaction once again topher! ❤️
I think we need to pay attention to the fact that Porsche does not want to be there at all. He is forced to be Kinns Bodyguard. He is used to be take care of his own stuff being under someone elses control (and Kinn loves to point out that he owns him) is just not his style. I loved the episode because Porsche is not perfect, he needs to get used to this whole family and the mobster lifestyle and he realized in the end that Kinn could have killed him, he did not so that makes him respect him (even if he still does not likes him) you can see it more in Episode 3 that he get used to Kinn being Kinn and that his totally horrible first day really hurt his pride.
I believe darkness approaches with the entry of Mr Vegas. But to be fair when Kinn is in scene there's not much comedy! The comedy I believe definitely linked to the character of Porsche. Who with character development I think we'll see less comedy but that lack of irreverence I think is part of the charm and why Kinn falls. The absurdity we can thank the elder brother for and I hope we don't loose that. I like that the show doesn't take itself too seriously it will make it easier to forgive the inevitable plot holes I've come to expect with these capers but definitely do expect a more serious tone to come.
This episode sort of threw me off track from the first one. However things change again in the next one. Who knows? I’m here for the ride… thanks for the reaction. I swear all the things I have questions about, you say them out loud and things make more sense! So thank you!
So I am really enjoying KinnPorsche, but like you, I was a bit surprised at how much comedy there is so far. Nothing wrong with comedy, but I was also expecting something more dark and gritty. But I'm not as disappointed because I kinda already got my dark, gritty, action-packed BL fix with Not Me which concluded just a week before KinnPorsche started. Also it's still very early in the series so there's plenty of time for things to get more serious.
Also, Not Me is freaking fantastic and I highly HIGHLY recommend it!
I personally don’t think this is random for porsche’s character. Going to school only occassionally, having no responsibility on that aspect and then not used to be ordered around at all, something also to do maybe with having no proper parental figure in his life either. So i think this episode was trying to say that you don’t get far with an attitude like that and if you want to be respected you need to do the groundwork as well.
Also, yes he did accept this job on his free will, but i wouldn’t say he had much choice in the matter. As he clearly despises this world, maybe this is something in him rebelling against the thought of having been forced into this job.

I remember watching this and ep 3 and saying- okay this is pure comedy. Like just straight jokes more than half the time. Though ep 3 balances the drama out much better.
I enjoyed this episode. It was nice seeing Vegas for a bit and I'm loving how crazy the oldest son is. I think they're giving us the comedy and fun scenes first and then later we'll get the dark and violent stuff.
I can not understand you people..why did you whine about the series. enjoy it and let others do it too. especially for those who haven’t gone crazy watching a series of trailers or videos. it is not worth shaking expectations, because the disappointment is great. it is easier to dive into the water in a dark place, because it is much more interesting and does not disappoint. and no need to make spoilers or smear thoughts or feelings on others
People just watch topher april update videos and dont spoilers and speak only EP 1-2 not what IS coming or what IS in book has
Perth (pantsless Kinn's bodyguard Ken) is Aussi like BangChan and Felix. He's also in Cuite Pie 😁. The whole Porsche walking out to the car was Miss Congeniality just male form 🤣.
Listening to your thoughts, i realized I felt the same way abt Porsche. I kinda disliked him for slacking off and not trying at all. Because… dude, it’s your job… that you willingly walked into. It was careless from someone who claims to care so much abt his brother’s comfort and well being, and it is insulting for all the other bodyguards who are working hard to protect the family. I was annoyed by Porsche for a good part of the first few episodes

The Wasabi in the drink gets me every time. He could have just put the drink in front of Kinn when he sat down, but no, Porsche has no chill so it backfired. Bwahaha.

Don't know why watching this for a second time around is digging up all my Coast Guard boot camp memories. That training is not easy. But Porsche is hilariously bad at even pretending to do things he does not want to do and I love him for it. Honestly, I am like this. If you drag me into anything I don't want to do, I will be as bad at it as Porsche is. I do think Porsche was forced into this. Yes, he made the choice, but it was not a choice he would make if life didn't drag him here screaming and kicking. On top of which, he is morally opposed to his job, so I think he also has a bit of a mental block to it.
Re the cameras... I do not think they would ever use the cameras to help a bodyguard win over family. Family over bodyguard, family v family and bodyguard v bodyguard, all yes. But the family's word is law to the bodyguards. Doesn't matter if it is lies or not.

It's a lot of fun watching you react to these. As someone with a strong work ethic, even when I was young, I had the exact same reaction my first watch through. I loved the comedy, but yeah, him not taking his job even the slightest bit seriously when it's a life and death job was definitely frustrating. I got to binge it, so it was an immediate jump into the change up so I didn't have much time to be disappointed(which is why I don't really like week to week shows anymore -it's binge or go home).

They marketed it through the trailer and teasers as more action and to be fair Porsche isn't all that ridiculous in the novel honestly he was almost too perfect at his job for me in the novel. He did do stuff to piss off and annoy Kinn in the early parts of the novel. Plus I think the director made it this way cause it is being aired for channel3 in Thailand which is one of the older and conservative free to air stations so they had to take out some of the excess violence and sex and leave those for IQIYI so they had to balance. The action and drama will be here soon the production is still high though we can be thankful for that.

Finally ! I've found someone who agrees with me about my feelings about this series. It doesn't seems like my expectations would be fulfill - the dark side of the mob with violence, blood and settling of scores, and the role of Porsche who is a skilled fighter but in this episode, he is just a joke of himself... BTW, Perth (the bodyguard who speaks english) is half australian.
Just wait it was like that in the novel too I read the whole thing trust me it’s getting crazy in the next episodes prepare for episode 4 🥲
