@@cyankirkpatrick5194 I don't know. They were there to hang a notice about a coming & planned power outage. Doubt he cared why they were there. Most thieves are not interested in costume jewelry or moving guns and TVs just to screw with people's heads. This behavior was just some of DeAngelo's compulsory eccentricities when invading homes, and though possible it doesn't seem likely your average house burglar would commit a double homicide to cover up a non-violent crime. The PG&E murders have a Brian & Katie Maggiore feel to it.

We both graduated from the Criminal Justice program at Sac State. D'Angelo actually had the then B.S. side of the degree that required 15 units in forensic related classes, such as crime scene investigations, fingerprints, ballistics, etc. He evaded detection I am sure with this training. The professors 1976-77 argued that the EAR was intoxicated after some attacks (drank victims beer,) and officers never considered this in their dragnet. Well known legend back then that tag on jewelry noting gold content was actually the real gold and the other earring was false. He knew the difference and most likely had been melting gold down to bars for years. He had that equipment in his garage as confirmed in the book by his brother-in law.

I wasn't military; but I'm very familiar with the locations mentioned due to training, friends, family, and employment. Back before the Bay Area went insane. I left the area permanently in 2000.

I was in Southern CA for his time there. Some weird six degrees stuff there. Both JD & Ramirez were why we had to swelter in our un-air conditioned house at night!
But I moved to Sacramento in the 80s and had spent a lot of time here before then.
The EAR is just part of the background of life for those of us living here. I followed the investigations for years. My thought was that EAR would be a cop. I thought active though so he could be “on scene” and no one think twice about his presence.
