A coroner once explained to me and a group of friends how "no body, no crime" works. You might find a person's arm, leg, hand with fingers and identify the person by jewelry (wedding ring or such) and tattoos or birthmarks, but not be able to declare that person dead/ murdered simply because a person can survive the loss of those limbs. If you found the guy's isolated head or torso... that's another story.

But he usually catches HUGE, dangerous fish, and then explains how they could be the source of the legends. I love the show because you learn a lot, and Jeremy is always very respectful and wants to learn about the culture of the areas he visits.

Fun fact: cannibalism isn't an actual crime. If you eat human meat, you've technically done nothing wrong, but if you're the one that cut up the body. You'd get convicted for desecration of a corpse. But if someone was to bring you meat that you did not realize was human and you ate it, you've committed no crime.

    fun fact(s) for you, simon:
ichthyology - pronounced “ick thee (th like in three) ology”
comes from the greek word for fish, with sharks (and another cartilaginous fish) being part of the subgroup chondrichthyes, while bony fish (the ones that typically have covered gills and more feathery fins, like most fish you’d typically think of first) are classified osteichthyes

30:08 nope, cannibalism is technically legal in most jurisdictions. Like good luck performing cannibalism without breaking some other law (murder, graverobbing, etc) but if you obtain the body legally and aren’t obligated to maintain it, then you can technically eat it. Also, if you are in a desperate enough situation for eating a human corpse to seem like a good idea, you’re unlikely to be charged even if it is illegal in your jurisdiction since starvation-induced desperation would constitute the cannibalism justified or at the very least temporary insanity

It became a routine to stumble in from work just before 11pm ,collapse on the sofa and flick on the tv for an hour of zombieing out before bed .That hour of watching Alaska fishermen working harder than I was ,in more uncomfortable conditions ,soothed my ragged soul .Of course the ritual double vodka and coke helped too ( just 1 ) but those boys unwittingly made my aching back and screaming feet a little easier to put up with ,I'm still grateful .

We call it remembrance day here in Australia, but yes also respected here. ANZAC day though is of cultural not just military significance. Beyond Gallipoli being a bloody mess it was our first war as a nation, Federation passed the house of commons in 1900 and became effective in 1901. So it's deeply tied with our sense of national identity not just the wars we've fought in.

Fact boi, if you haven't covered it on one of your many channels, you should cover the famous Norrmalmstorg robbery, the one that gave rise to the idea of Stockholm Syndrome. The entire situation is wild, with unbelievable amounts of police incompetence and dismissal of the victims' very valid concerns, but most people only know the pop culture version of the story. Also, nobody died or was seriously injured, so it would be a good emotional break.

Simon cannibalism in itself isn't a crime in most places because it's impossible to do without murdering or maiming someone which are crimes in themselves, or you have to steal/desecrate a body. But if you were to say, get a limp amputated in some places you could totally chow down on it.

Pigs are a nice touch but usually located near people. Gators wander more which might be a better choice, and they tend not to swallow things without gnashing them with their teeth. They like to chew their food a bit, or at least the baby ones at the local mini-golf do.

    • @Perzyn
      @Perzyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You're always gonna have problems lifting a body in one piece. Apparently the best thing to do is cut up a corpse into six pieces and pile it all together.
And when you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them, because it's no good leaving it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover, now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig shit, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig". [Brick Top; Snatch]

For anyone else that somehow watched the show and didn't get it, yes, deadliest catch is real. Fisherman who had been featured on seasons of the show have ended up dying. Infact entire ships that have been featured on the show have gone down and there have even been instances were ships currently being spot lighted by the show have had to stop fishing to respond to may day calls from stricken vessels or called up by the coast guard to aid in rescue and recovery
Sure some of the interpersonal play can be faked, but the work they do and the danger that goes with it is real

Anzac Day is mostly celebrated at the pub in Australia, and if you dont give proper respects in a lot of places you’ll most like get punched or glassed (idk if that’s what it’s called every where else, but being “glassed” involves smashing a beer glass on someone’s head, usually resulting in a lot of stitches)

Simon, your mention of pigs reminded me of 2 murders in the north of Michigan. In 1985 2 hunters from St. Clare Shores, MI, went up north to hunt for deer and never came home. They were beaten to death and fed to pigs. The only reason the murderers were caught was they couldn't keep their mouths shut! They did their talking in the local bar amongst the regulars. Someone came forward in 2003 to tell the state police what had happened. It was quite awful!

Speaking of fishing at the start of this episode, while I don't recall the first time I ever went fishing I remember when I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade and my class went fishing and my dad was tagging along. While all the other kids were using worms as bait my dad had brought along hot dog buns for me to use as my bait. My classmates laughed at me saying that it was a stupid thing to use as bait. They didn't laugh as much when I was the first one to get a fish to bite and catch it. All of a sudden everyone wanted a piece of hot dog bun to use as bait xD

In the Australian underworld, people keep their mouth shut. This is especially true for the older criminals still to this day. So it’s very likely that Reginald was killed by ANYONE in that underworld scene simply because he was testifying against (dogging on) someone. Nothing worse than being a “dog” among Aussie criminals!

when I was a boy, the greatest thing that ever happened in my world was when dad would take me, JUST ME! Fishing. Oh those were wonderful times, we would sit on the river bank being very quiet so as not to scare the fish away, and while away the hours between catching fish and just fishing. So when I was married, I began taking my wife fishing, and since she had never been before I spent a LOT of time fixing her pole for her, baiting her hooks and such and much less time enjoying the sport. After my kids got of age to screw up their rods and reels every friggin five fucking seconds, I at long last quit fishing. Since I retired, I went once, on my own, all alone to those very banks where dad and I had so much joy so many years ago. Just for a few minutes it all came back, the peace, the quiet, the joy. Then the fucking game warden showed up and informed me that this particular hole that had been OUR spot was now on private property, and some change in the law over the last damn 40 years banned the public from accessing the river there! That was it. My fishing pole now sit in the corner of my garage. Tons of cobwebs and dirt cover the rods and reels so they are probably all seized up and useless, I am sure the fishing line is rotten and I no longer give a flying fuck about fishing. Ah for the good old days...
