  • River herring will begin their migration around late April/early May. Join us to learn about river herring on the Shawsheen and Merrimack Rivers. Jon Honea, professor of ecology at Emerson College will be speaking about the ecological and historic importance of river herring, fish monitoring, and how you can get involved in local community science. Eric Hutchins, a biologist at NOAA, will discuss the impacts of dam removal on fish populations. There will be a live Q&A portion afterward.
This event is part of World Fish Migration Day, and precedes the Shawsheen Herring Count. The Herring Count is supported by Andover Trails, the Andover Conservation Commission, and the Massachusetts Chapter of the Native Fish Coalition.
This a recording of a live event on April 25th, 2022.
