Wow... the players in this game! Aikman, Smith, Irvin, Haley, Taylor in HOF... Dan Reeves (coached in 4 Super Bowls), Jimmy Johnson (National Championship and 2 Super Bowls). Phil Simms in last regular season game. Howard Cross would play in Super Bowl XXV and XXXV. Armstead and Strahan (rookie this season but did not play in this game, eventual HOF) would lead Giants to playoffs in ‘97 and to Super Bowl XXXV. Strahan of course, would team with Eli Manning to win XLII.
LT with last regular season sack in historic and legendary career.
Moose, Novacek, McCaffrey, Meggett, Hampton, Jumbo... all pro bowlers.
And of course, the legends of Pat Summerall and John Madden on CBS.

I remember this game like it was yesterday. I especially remember players having to help Smith up after each play in overtime. He carried the load with a separated shoulder. Dallas needed this win to lock up home field throughout the playoffs and #22 put the offense on his back. John Madden never visited locker rooms after games but on this day he went down and found Smith and told him this was the gutsiest performance he’d ever seen.

Honorable mention to Marshall Faulk, the Lenny Moore of my generation, who could run precise WR routes and could go 80 on you at anytime.

They Cowboys is my Team, and I am very fond of Hershell, and Emitt Smith, but Barry Sanders is way better, explosive, smart, and has more of the wiggle and wet bass effect to break tackles.... in a sense quicker, I saw several plays here where defensive backs caught up to Emitt very quickly, that was not so evident with Barry Sanders.

    • @trjohnson57
      @trjohnson57 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@MiguelTiempos the fact that Sanders had better physical tools but Emmitt Smith had more yards, touchdowns, and success just proves Emmitt was the better back all around! Sanders was genetically gifted the physical talent he had, Emmitt succeeded on will and skill as a runner, blocker, and receiver. Sanders played on some really good Lions teams but he disappeared in the playoffs against better competition. Emmitt in the other hand played great against the best the NFL had to offer in his division and in the playoffs.

You can tell Emmitt was hurt in this footage, but where are the myriad times his lineman popped his shoulder back in place between plays? They did it several times right out on the field so Emmitt wouldn't have to miss a down. Tough? YES! Video? No!

To me this was the end of the rivalry until Eli and Romo came along in relation to longevity and the importance of games between the two teams.
This was LT and Simms last game playing against them and Carl Banks was gone the year before.
Giants just weren’t the same for a few seasons and then when the Giants became relevant again, the Cowboys weren’t the same team.

I was blessed to watch two of the more indelible games in my NFL childhood on this day. The first was this all time regular season classic. The second was the last signature regular season win of the Los Angeles Raiders, who came back from 30-13 down to the Broncos to win 33-30 and make the playoffs. But Emmitt absolutely earned the MVP with this performance. The last vestiges of what the NFL was for me as a kid, with Madden and Summerall calling a physical NFC game on CBS.

I have this game on VHS. Other than our first championship win over San Francisco, this is by far the best cowboys game I've ever seen. Emmitt after holding out the first 2 games not only won the rushing title but also NFL player of the year. Bill Parcel and Chad Gailey are the only coaches that came close to Jimmy Johnson talent. What a team we had back then...

Hard fought game, even though the big dawgs of the nfc East were now the Cowboys, Mark Tuinei, Jim Jeffcoat, Bill Bates, Michael Irvin, Ken Norton, Kevin Gogan, Nate Newton, and Bill Bates were all holdovers from the Landry era. Interesting seeing them play against what was left from the Parcells era players, such as Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms, Howard Cross, Dave Meggett, Rodney Hampton, Erik Howard, Bart Oates, Jumbo Elliot, etc.

They always credit that o-line...the one that didn't make Derrick Lassic or Lincoln Coleman or Tommie Agee or Curvin Richards 4 ypc rushers. None of his backups from 1992-1994 averaged 4 yards a carry, but Emmitt was 'carried' by his o-line. If that was the case, his holdout would've blown up in his face and Dallas would've rolled to the title in 1993 without him. Dude was the heart and soul of that entire team.

What a tremendous game!!!! The Giants defense played about as hard as a unit can play. This was the great Lawrence Taylor's last game as a professional before he retired, and he made an impact, too!! I'd be remiss without mentioning Emmit Smith and the great impact he had on this game - particularly in the first half, building Dallas' lead up to 13 - 0 at halftime - he really ran with some reckless abandon, getting crucial yards time after time!! Pat Summerall and John Madden apply the cherry on top as the outstanding broadcaster and analyst duo for the football fan at home. It doesn't get much better than this as an NFL classic!!!

The game that defined Emmitt Smith (when he played with one arm) and guaranteed his entry into the Hall of Fame. How “bout that Cowboy?! That game got the Cowboys the “bye” and they rolled through the playoffs and to the Super Bowl and a win! That team had a “Swag”, but they backed it up. They would come in and tell you they were going to whip your behind and would do it. Some people called it bragging, but to paraphrase Mohammad Ali: “If you could say it and do it - it ain’t bragging!” Oh for the good old days.
But, that was a great team - loaded and so glad the Tripplets are all in the Hall of Fame. How ‘bout them Cowboys?!
