For the Baron part of the level, you do not need to activate the door in order to fight them. You can shoot them and the arch vile through the spaces between the wall and the Baphemet (probably wrong spelling 😆) walls. Saves your ass! Thanks for another amazingly helpful walkthrough, Bigmac. This was the first map that actually started giving me trouble in Plutonia. Not that I don't like it - it's a very neat map. I just found it really difficult. Very cool video, as always :) definitely 20% cooler, I think the entire game playlist deserves that tag.
One hypotesis of what might happened to you near the end... When you shot the rocket launcher, there were two barons of hell, one straight in front of you, the other immediately next to it at its right. That first rocket aimed the second one, and hit the wall next to you. You bounced to the stairs, where you shot the second rocket, as a reflex, and that hit the corpse
In the original engine, actors like the impaled bodies or trees don't stop projectiles. That's a source port thing because it makes more sense (not that not stopping hitscan makes sense. Tho, they stop hitscan in some mods.). So that spot isn't bad in the original engine. :)
Don't be too hard on yourself. What I do at the end is leave the barriers up and snipe at the Barons with the SS or reg shotgun. That way you don't have the danger of rocket splash down that narrow hallway, especially with those impaled bodies in the way.
Rockets are a very good idea! Especially if you use them on all the Chain Gunners from the right and left paths at the beginning. Now, you might say "The rocket launcher won't target the Chain Gunners, too far." You would be absolutely correct....so how did I do it? By exploiting Doom 2's old quirks, of course. You strafe out, get the gunner to target you, and aim at the nearest wall. I was able to tag all of them, but the one on the far left. I also enjoyed using the Cacodemons and Mancubus to infight with everything. This map is a blast and with the new remaster music, chef's kiss.
It's nice to snipe off enemies, especially Chain-Gunners. The secrets don't really seem like secrets in comparison to Wolf3D in my opinion, but it is what it is. Yeah, ate 2 rockets, yeah we all have our bad days. Nice video BigMacDavis.

I like playing with manual aim and mouse look, even though I played it traditional when I was young. It feels fair when you can't aim at far away monsters but they can hit you. Maybe I got used to Quake.
Regarding the ending; I think there is a bug where the rocket launcher aims for barons on the other side of the walls. It happened to me about the same way. I was standing still in the small hallway only firing rockets straight ahead (without moving) and I also hit myself after firing about 5 to 10 rockets.
Wolf3D's secrets were more like conspiracy theories. If you didn't know where they were already, you had to do so much work to find them... I hate wall hugger secrets. A lot of Doom secrets are pretty obvious or sometimes mandatory... but I like the ones with slightly misaligned textures or other subtle hints. Easy to miss if you're caught up in the action and forget to keep an eye out for it.
You don't suck for having eaten those rockets at the ending, it's Karma who sucks! You dodged that Revenant rocket, so Fate was like "oooh you're gonna take it double for that!!"
I just want to say I like to handle the central area by making the cacodemons just murder most of the gunners. I guess it's not the fastest method, but it's always fun making monsters fight and this place gives a great opportunity for that as long as you remain in the upper area where you started the map.
Using the pillars as cover for the spider mastermind would have been better since I saw literally saw it firing at you and there is a major risk of getting damage when you were in that position.
Well the secret not getting tagged bug got the better out of me in one of Doom Zero Maps and Iam playing on the official Bethesda Doom 2 port for iOS. It was so frustrating not to get 100% secrets.
Umm in the beginning you say that the two hell nights have all the room to maneuver, but a few years back when I 1st did this, I went to deep in one..... both hallways, in my freshmen frenzy, and triggered both skellys...... That should be a warning. >_>

You can kill two aracnothrones from the edge before you enter and face with the chaingunners. I thought you would not take the white sphere till the end.
Yeah, that was brutal. But all you hard core gamers know how easy shit can go sideways even when you're Big Mac Davis. And us mere mortals play this on normal difficulty. On the harder difficulties, well, that separates the men from the boys.

It placed us in third instead of second because of the extra respawn. You want to talk about pissed off people! Yeah, I didn't get to play Final Doom until the 2020 remaster for Doom and Doom II came out. Then I decided to get the version on Steam.

Yeah, I think you actually make a very valid point. The auto-aim of this game kinda sucks sometimes, haha.
