“Frankly Scarlet, it’s ok”. Classic! Loved it. Hope a lot of the viewers caught that reference.
"And if my bride wakes up, I'm going in."
Spoken like a true man.
Hope the wife makes a full recovery from the knee surgery! Probably too late now but my father put in outdoor pex lines for water to our shed. He actually put in a tee at the house side to put a quarter inch air fitting and then teed the shed side so he had one pipe go past the shed into the daylight. He threw a ball valve on the daylight side past the shed to be able to clear the outdoor section of water during our winter months. It’s been working well for the past 5 years
Here in Southern California, I don’t have to worry about freezing, but my 80 foot run outdoor Pex, to get water to the backyard, has been working perfectly for about three years. That said, I had the luxury of being able to put it inside a cedar fence with pickets on both sides, so I have a long protected run for Pex and electrical.
"I lack confidence, but here I go"
"I won't know until I pressure it up"
These ideas are like a mantra for life. Go forward trusting that the way will appear before you even though you don't know the end before beginning. You learn along the way that you can do hard and challenging things!
Thx Scot. Hope the bride is recovering well.
Pear trees are essential for the well being of partridges, keep up the good work.
Yea, but I thought you only needed one!
Thanks for your humility. We all face projects that require more than our capacity or confidence. Essential Craftsman inspires me to keep moving forward!
The uncentered cleanout is on purpose. Give a little tool and hand room on one side for cap removal, etc.
So it's better than ok!
That offset also creates a space to set the cap and any tools or flashlight that you’re using!
I hope your wife has a speedy recovery!
You won't regret having more spigots around the property. The only maintenance mine need is for me to remember to disconnect surface hoses before the first freeze of the winter, and never leave them connected during the winter when I use them. If the hose is left on the spigot, the water won't always drain out properly, and you risk freezing and cracking.
Thanks for posting, and thumbs up.
I bought mine (excavator) new also for the same reason. It has saved me a fortune. I have that KX040. Stellar machine!
I hope Kellie's recovery went well. Things are looking great. Lots of time, planning, and hard work paying off.
"Frankly Scarlet.. it's OK" I understood that reference :)
I moved from Sandy OR to east TN. Put up a shop here and have been putting off (with dread) running water and sewer line from shop to house. You’ve spurred me on…thank you young man!
WINTERS COMIN
Godspeed, EC!
We’re praying for a quick and uneventful recovery for our favorite virtual essential beekeeper Aunt
I love seeing someone so knowledgeable kind of struggle through something. It makes me feel better about myself.
As a Homebuilder for over 30 yrs,the mini ex is by far the best usable machine for me, there's just so much more that can be done
I have to say thank you. Its been awesome colleting your knowledge and experience. Being able to put it to use building a garage and work around my tree farm, has been a real money saver.
Best wishes for Kelly on the knee recovery. My wife had hers done in December and 1 month later is doing fantastic. PT is challenging but well worth it after years of pain. It's amazing what the Docs can do - we were home by 3pm same day with a new knee, I couldn't believe it. Another great project and video. Happy New Year Scott.
As an excavator contractor in Utah, we do not use pipe dope on any of our pipe fittings. We always use blue teflon tape. We've had a lot of problems using pipe dope
Awesome video. Get out of your comfort zone but still calm and passed your tests
My best wishes for Kelly to have a swift recovery and not too much pain!
Nice to see the gas project come to a close. Glad you got the chamfer tool figured out. Even though it was expensive, looks like those fittings are pretty easy to put together.
The tool looks remarkably like a big, $90 pencil sharpener. Hope all is well with your better half's knee fix.
lol that's exactly what i thought when i saw it 🤣🤣
An essential craftsman video? about excavation? perfect way to start the day. Thank you sir for everything you've taught us all. Spec house series inspired building my first house for myself and future family. keep up the great work sir. cheers
I hope your first house came out well, and that your family turns it into a beautiful home.
thank you, got dried in year before last, back to work saving up last year or so for electrical, plumbing, kitchen, and finishing supplies. On track to finish it next winter. Cheers@@Hoaxer51
"Frankly, Scarlett, it's ok." 😂👌🏻
Long time viewer, before the remarkable spec home masterpiece. Just glad to know such genuinely remarkable people exist still, good of heart mind body and soul. Grateful to share the world with such type. Scott reminds me of Steve Irwin the Croc Hunter in all the same ways. Bless
I enjoyed this video as it is similar to projects I have completed. I was disappointed you didn't have Phil there as a really good laugh is a great way to start the day. Anyway I've replace and repaired some frost-proof hydants. Parts were not difficult to find as my local hardware store stocked them. Not a big box store. I live in NE Tennessee so I do have to consider freezing. Bury bottom to below frost line and remember to disconnect hose so hydrant and hose can properly drain. You h ave a top notch channel and put some on PBS to shame.
P.S. I used an AMES excavator and sweat. Wasn't on the budget for a new mini. Went to a fund raiser silent auction and won the use of a mini-excavator. Easier than pick and shovel. Replaced collapsed culvert under my driveway (totally on my property, no city or county responsibility.)
Watching your videos has become my Saturday monring ritual. Your videos always inspire me to tackle the projects around the house.
Boy it's funny to watch you do excavation here in the northeast we have to be about 4 feet down to prevent frost and freeze. I'm pretty sure you're gonna be just fine
THANK YOU MAY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
You don’t like pears 🍐?! They’re beautiful cut up and baked with brown sugar and, say spiced rum. This is the first time I have commented, but have followed your videos for 2-3 years now. We’re just coming to the last part of a 4 year journey of transformation our outdoor space (the last part taking a solid 7 months) and despite the setbacks, challenges, mistakes etc, I sure have l sure have appreciated the ‘Keep up the good work’ from someone I respect and admire. You keep up the good work Scott! Greetings from Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺🤩
Keep up the good work!
Scott, Hope your Bride's knee recovery went well. I had mine done 4 weeks ago 12/13. Recovery can be rough. Keep up thr great work
Jeff
Great job. Thank you 😊
Nice video! Great work!
Thank you for the video.
Very good, keep it up.
When you’re looking for or buying a yard hydrant, buy the Woodford Mfg brand, they are made in the U.S.and have been since 1917. They all have interchangeable parts, you can buy rebuild kits easily, and they are repairable/rebuildable from the top of the hydrant. Yea, a little more money than the Chinese ones but less problems, I’ve had mine in use for over ten years, I’ve done nothing to it other than turn it on and off and it still works perfectly.
Thanks for the awesome content and great videos!
I hyperventilate about not getting my cheese sandwich just right. lol, but on excavators, I bought one of those cheap Chinese ones for
Gosh I love your content! Prayers for a speedy recovery for your bride.
I’ve installed a few yard hydrants over the years here in Indiana. My only suggestion would be to install a shut off valve in front of the hydrant. Those yard hydrants are notorious for having the fitting at the bottom crack because they weren’t properly stabilized from moving when turning them on or off, or the locking set screw loosens on the shut off rod. This way if you have a leak some where you can isolate the hydrant to see if it is the culprit. If it is then you can fix it when you have time.
Prayers on the knee recovery, Mrs. EC! Hope you're back on your feet in no time - besides, SOMEBODY has to keep an eye on Scotty!
Best wishes for Kelly's quick recovery.
Cheers 🇨🇦
The gas hookup looks good............as your buddy Phil would always say "that should hardly leak at all" LOL
You have a good voice
A large project once completed pays a lot mental dividends into the future. Every time you look at it you get a feeling of accomplishment.
Nice.
Old guys still working! 🍺
Good episode
Phil’s taking you for a long ride 🤣 don’t forget the pipe stretcher😂
I like the setup of having a mini-excavator w/thumb and tractor with front hydraulic feeds for accessories. Even a larger, enclosed heated/ac cab has more visibility than a skidsteer. Yes, I know, his son's skid steer saved the day on a previous episode. But if my money, I'd go with the excavator rather than backhoe, and bucket-tractor. Unless someone has view of benefits of the skid steer (like tracks for lawns, or more options like a boom lift...). Great work on the water lines!
The value of the satisfaction of a job well done cannot be expressed. It is a feeling one only knows by having accepted the challenge and exercising the discipline to see the task through. Prayers for your wife! Mine had knee replacement last summer and is now recovering from a surgery repair. At 76, we're learning it takes two to make one. We may not be as good at caregiving as we are at other things, but we can meet the needs of our wives - though I admit curling hair is not a skill I am likely to pursue.
I have only used the yellow gas pipe once running a line to a generator and had the same issue where it stopped 5/16ths away from the mark on the pipe. The pressure test passed as well but sure had me wondering why?
Andrew Camarata just reviewed a cheap mini-excavator. Been considering one for a while and now you have a video as well. Thanks! ~But for my home and personal/family use the cheaper one is more in line with what I need.
Amazon has those mini-excavators for $6,999.00 and free delivery, eBay has a bunch of them for around $5,000.00 give or take a couple hundred dollars and most with free delivery but you need a way to unload it. One of those could come in real handy around the ranch if a tree comes down or the driveway needs a little work. There’s plenty of things that could be used for.
Make sure they are up front on where it is shipping from , and , that there are no customs fees / duties / taxes involved .
If it has to go through customs , you can spend 3x what it's worth easily .
Andrew's uses a Briggs hydraulic log splitter motor complete with the pump. He said as much and that this makes repairs a lot easier as parts are actually available.
I wonder about parts for the machine itself. A few years down the road it may be discovered that they are made out of unobtanium. At least with a regular brand the parts will usually be available, expensive, but available.
I ordered mine through Ebay and so it was the price and tax only--shipping was included. Just ordered some attachments through Ebay as well and they arrived quickly! @@kaboom4679
Weather forecast today is pretty sure for three day ahead. Prediction longer then three ahead is glass-marble forecast….
you are the man!
Paint the hydrant protection a bright color. Hopefully will grab people's attention
The KX40-4 are a decent machine. I operated Kubota hoes for 7 years U17 to KX80. I prefer them over any other brand. They are fast machines.
There is a very scientific formula for how much pipe dope to use on fittings. What you say "that'll be enough" put one more dab! It works exactly like the "that ain't going no where" physics that keep ratchet straps secure!
As long as the leak is before the meter you're okay
An opinion from an old carpenter about plumbing. When it comes to pipe dope, "more is better." I never knew how much either so I'd put on more than I thought it needed and have never been sorry. Hope you wife's knee surgery is going well now that the new year is here.
Bigger the glob, better the job
Our Shul was looking for a good excavator, no reason, just moving some earth about. So you're saying this is a good one? 😮
And we don't even like pears. 😂😂😂😂
As an amateur with no special knowledge, looking at your latest installation, the thought that creeps me out is that it seems like if you get some good rains, that heavy concrete circle might settle a *lot* more than the plastic pipe sticking through the big notch at the bottom, and so the concrete might want to sever the pipe 😞
"Frankly Scarlett, it's OK" I don't think that's the way that quote goes .....
👍👍
We don't even like pears around here? Scott! Say it ain't so!
For real who doesnt like pears?!
6:13 bigger the gob better the job!
that is some dodgy looking gas line, give me the good old black iron pipe any day its been the old reliable for a long time, back when i did it many moons ago we pressure tested it at 25lbs for half an hour that was it
I'm surprised you're allowed to work on gas pipes yourself. Big no-no in NZ.
You left your bucket in the air
I have to admit that I checked the channel's income on Social Blade to see how much it might have helped pay for $75K mini, and I was surprised at how low it was for a channel with 1.3 million subscribers. I have followed channels like Chris on Letsdig18, and Andrew Camerata for many years, and would dearly love to own an excavator, and enough land to use it on.
I would hate living right off a highway
So happy the gas pipeline system came out famously!!!
Other than electricity, the one thing you don't want to do if you're not sure about it would be connecting a gas line!
Definitely a job for a licensed gas fitter! Not something to mess with
i didnt know they has sharkbite style fittings for gas lines, I wouldnt really trust it. Cause Id prefer having a water leak then cleaning that mess up. Other then having a gas leak and going booooommmm hahahaha
a pear tree in the way is better than no pear tree at all
$90 for a hunk of plastic with 2 .10c razor blades... wow.
Don't like pears??!! That right there I simply can not understand.
I hope your wife is back on her feet and pain-free soon.
Did you buy this from those chosen people in Brooklyn
.
