@@8thdecade , Thank you for the additional information. Do you mean that we can get the dentist to the work before May, paying the dentist from our own money, and then reimbursed by the government in May? Does the government will know about our payment or we have to call them?
@@paulinefriend9455 No. My understanding is that the first few months are to deal with the registration process only and then one will get notified later that they can begin using the plan beginning sometime in May.
@@TroyQwert It’s a bit more complicated than that. Start by getting a really thorough dental cleaning. After that, improve your daily dental home care as much as possible by brushing well and yes… flossing. No alternatives. Floss please.

So I'm retired age 65, I have a company dental plan but I have to pay 30% of each bill. My income is less than $39000 and I have to pay the deductible but this government plan don't. I think they should pay the 30% back if you are bellow the $70000 a year. That would be the fair thing to do as I pay my taxes for 40 years! What about a maximum in a year? I do, I can only do up to $2000 a year maximum and this is for 2 people! So At the end of it, it seams we are penalize because we have a dental plan!
I hear you. May I suggest you contact your Member of Parliament with your concern? The reality is that because this is a new program they'll be making amendments to it as more information surfaces so giving them our ideas may prove fruitful. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate the dialogue and learning I get from hearing from you.

Thanks for jumping in to the conversation, Barlow. From what I understand, there's still discussion going on with the Canadian Dental Association regarding the implementation of the plan. I guess we'll see how it all plays out.
This is 4 months ago got my card from Sun Life and they say the Dentists have no desire to sign on, I think it may have something to do with Trust, and they are among most Canadians that do not Trust Either the NDP or the Liberals.
Yup, once again a good idea very poorly executed. That said, now, according to a CBC news item, starting in early July, oral health providers can bill Sun Life - which manages the dental care program - for services on a claim-by-claim basis without signing up for the CDCP. Hopefully that will get some more involved. www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadian-dental-care-plan-cdcp-seniors-coverage-begins-may-1-1.7189717
Excellent question, Steve. I expect we'll hear more about this as we get closer to the initial time for seeing a care provider, which is supposed to be starting in May, depending on when one registers. The best information I've been able to find on coverage so far is on the federal government's website. www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/coverage.html

For those of us who have been paying insurance premiums forever for dental care this is not exactly fair. Not all of us are well off but stretched our money to pay dental bills over and above what our Plan paid and did without a lot of things to pay for our kids as well. At the end of the day as taxpayers we will end up paying for others. 😊
Excellent observation, Patricia. I expect there'll be some amendments made to accommodate this...at least I certainly hope so. There'll be some growing pains I'm sure. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
IN FEB I DID MY TAXES AND PHONED IN MY APPLICATION FOR MY DENTAL PLAN AS I AM 73. I GOT A SUBSEQUENT LETTER SAYING I'D BE GETTING A FULL PLAN FOR THIS BUT AS OF TODAY APRIL 15TH, NOTHING??
Hi Norman. I'm not sure why you're using all Caps here but my understanding is that I'll get a card and more information from Sun Life within three months of my initial acceptance letter. It seems they're not fully prepared to launch and are still working on the logistics. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, that is the hallmark of the current administration. As my mother told me...patience is a virtue. 😉

I received my invitation letter Feb 26 and called to enrol immediately. I then received a confirmation letter on Mar 13 that said I'd get a letter from Sun Life within 3 months that will include a ember card and details about the Canadian Dental Care Plan. No sure why all the ambiguity but perhaps the plan is being unique to each member?
I received my invitation letter in the mail today. I called the number and within about 2 minutes was registered with the Canada Dental Care Plan. They will now send me a letter with further information...eg. what the coverage is, when coverage begins, etc.
Not sure what you mean by "enforcement," Glen. The experience from others had been very positive. It is true, however that it is something that is continually evolving. See my video at th-cam.com/video/SDb6pxuNa3o/w-d-xo.html
The BC Dental Association has decided that its members will not participate in the program. My dentist is not participating and there is no mechanism to force the dentists to participate in the program. So, no access to dental care through the new national dental care program - it's just window dressing, a dental insurance program with no dentists.
@@Glencairns Thanks for this, Glen. Curious that dentists in Ontario and the hygienist I go to here are so happy with the plan while the BC Association is turning away. Continued research for me I guess. Again, I appreciate your input. Have a great day.
Hi again, Glen. I just received a response from the BC Dentist's Association. It reads, in part, "the BC Dental Association has not advised members to not participate in the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), and furthermore, as a professional association, BCDA is not in a position to dictate the actions of its members. Our message to members from the start has been that before making the choice to participate, dentists have all the information they need to fully understand the impact of participation on their individual practices." Their statement goes on to say, "The CDCP is an opportunity to help millions of Canadians who do not have an oral health care plan, but this program needs work sustainably for both patients and dentists." So, the Association hasn't made any dictates. However, that said, as we all understand, there is still some clarifications desired by all as the plan evolves.
It was mostly a lie!! They promised free dental if your income less than 90,000. Not true. If over 70,000 you are stuck with paying up to 60% of the bill. And the bill will be higher than before, because Canada Dental is short changing the dentists, so those who do not get it all free will pay the new higher fees. (Provincial Pharmacare has been causing that for years, with the gov paying pharmacies less than normal price.) And you do not qualify if your pension includes the ability to opt back in! I opted out long ago because after retiring and losing the employer subsidy, the premiums were just below the max allowable claims!!!! And if I opt back in, I pay premiums but cannot make a claim for the first year. So, my tax on my modest pension is paying for the select few and I get nothing!
I hear ya. The more information that gets revealed the more it looks like another half-hearted attempt that wasn't thought all the way through. So many of these things are created without ever consulting the end users. In my case, however, my dental coverage was cancelled automatically when I retired so the federal program, as it now stands, will at least cover some of the expense. Another problem that may arise is if we have a change of government to one that decides to cancel it. At any rate, I wish you well.
People will use their regular dentist. If your family net income is below $70,000 your dental work is completely covered. Those with family incomes between $70,000 and $79,000 will have a 40 per cent co-payment. And those between $80,000 and $89,000 will have a 60 per cent co-payment plan.
I doubt that! My family dentist isn't interested! And said whatever the gov. Offers will no compensate him for staff, rent of his office or expenses. Where do I go then???
