    I've read books and watched numerous videos and nothing has ever worked for me. When id get to the airport I couldn't eat, drink or even talk to my wife. I came across your video the night before I was flying from Dublin to Hong Kong. I put on headphones and listened to the video laying down on my bed. A calmness just came over me and I walked onto that flight like I was walking onto a bus..

I still get nervous a few weeks beforehand but I watch this video.. Visualizing rising above it until the actual problem seems so small helps a lot.. But it still hasn't fixed it 100% for me. You've also enhanced my ability to help my own clients (I'm a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist). What is particularly appealing to me about your videos is that there is so little self-promotion, that your sincerity, generosity, and obvious desire to help and support others shows clearly.

    I never used to be afraid of flying or heights in particular, I don't remember but at one time in my life I realized I was now afraid of both. When it comes to flying I'm just afraid of mechanical failure, and I hate turbulence. I just hate the idea of floating freely with thousands of feet of nothing in between me and the ground, and the idea of falling, plummeting that distance really scares me.

    just wanted to say i watched this over a year ago and since have flown 4 times at 4-5 hours per flight and it helped me tremendously remembering these things,I still have anxiety during take off but it dissipates once the plane is in flight,and on my first flights i would only allow myself to sit in an isle seat now last flight I moved to a window seat and i wish i had sooner it is breath taking (in a good way) thank you for this and thank you so much for helping me get over my fear, it is so much more convenient and rewarding to arrive at my destination DAYS sooner than on train or bus!

    Christopher you’ve no idea how much you’ve improved my life by watching this video and reading your book. I love planes and I live on the flight path out of Dublin Airport and never once think a plane taking off would crash through my roof. However I could never get on a Plane without being nearly in tears and my heart would be racing, I was terrified. But when I read your book I realised my fear had nothing to do with planes at all. When I was seven years old I was getting a car ferry from Dublin to Holyhead and I had really bad sea sickness and on top of that I got lost during the night and had to be taken care of by the ships crew until my dad was found which back in the 80’s on a slow ferry took hours. When I realised that, my fear literally disappeared. Anytime I talk to anyone who has a fear of flying I always point them to your videos. Thank you so much

    I had no fear of flying until I was 43. Then I started to feel very anxious about being so high up in the air. I am not afraid of the plane crashing or turbulence. I have no idea what the “trigger” might have been, but it had nothing to do with any event on a flight. To this day, I can only fly if I use a tranquilizer. There seems to be very little research about trigger events other than bad experiences on flights.

    Well I wrote down everything you said to Louise. And when I asked my subject’s unconscious to find the originating event she couldn’t. I only panicked for a split second and just continued to keep her mind moving. Well I had told her that you had done it in 7 minutes and that I did not expect to be nearly as good as you, I was delighted along the way when we made breakthroughs that were not easily earned! I had to improv a few things like have her conscious mind trust her unconscious mind.

      @@ChristopherPaulJones I will do thank you. The funny thing was I did as you suggested and went back to the last time I flew, (floating above) and realised the fear was never mine. The man next to me, who I did not know was petrified and I believe I took on his fear. He was sweating, white knucking and hyperventilating and it was a turbulent flight. Is that unusual to take on someone else's fear? On my first flight if some nervousness came I could tell myself it was never my fear. I was amazed how easy this was. I am 50 and had not flown since I was 21.

    Hi Christopher, I flew for many years from The US to England in the 90's/2000. I actually loved flying, but then I happened to see one of the 'Final Destination' movies a few years ago, and somehow adopted one of the character's phobias of flying on commercial airplanes. Since watching that movie I've developed an intense fear of flying, mostly the fear of flying at speed also with confinement inside the plane. I guess it's "a lack of control" fear, because when I'm a passenger in a car being driven fast I have anxiety now also. So yeah, a real cognitive mess I've developed. The car passenger situation is improving though, knowing I can stop has a lot to do with it I think.

    That was huge. After about 40 minutes we were done. She had gotten down to a 4. She was amazed! She said she also had gotten new understandings, especially about her unconscious. I had given her a pre-talk on how we were going to use that instead of her conscious and that this is where the money really was. I really talked up your method and did not settle for fuzziness on her part. So I was only slightly disappointed it didn’t eradicate her phobia recognizing all progress is good.

    as a pilot in training, i can assure anyone, flying is quite safe,
    ground school is very hard, lots of training on radio comms, pan pan and mayday calls, and how to handle everything from a catstrophic engine failure to a simple oil pressure drop. we know how to deal with it, and if all engines go out, you dont just drop like a rock
    you glide, for example the gimli glider incident, due to the canadian switch to the metric system, the plane ran out of fuel
    the pilots were forced to land on a decommissioned military runway, with faulty landing gear. all survived, only minor injuries related to the escape slides being too short since the landing gear gave out, just minor scrapes
    and countless other incidents, due to human error and ended in almost no deaths, because important pilot training, death in large numbers is rare in aviation

    I never flew as a child. My first flight was at age 29, and I wasn't particularly anxious about it. I was flying for work from DC to CA, a 5/6 hour flight, with a co-worker who was a good friend. We endured non-stop turbulence practically the entire flight. I vividly recall toward the end of the flight, as we bounced around our seats, looking at my friend next to me - a guy who flew weekly back then - and he was white as a sheet. I asked if this was normal - he said "This is BAD." Even now, after he's flown probably thousands of times, he says that flight was probably the worst he's ever endured. And lucky me, it was my first, and left me fearful of flying. I've flown 4 times since and while I haven't had any severe panic attacks, I always feel like I'm just on the verge of one, never comfortable. Suggestions?

    • @johnharris7994
      @johnharris7994 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christopher Paul Jones I'd say the thought of what might happen in the future has the much stronger pull. I haven't had flashbacks to that rough first flight during subsequent flights, it's just a strong feeling of anxiety about being so high up with nothing between me and the ground. And the lack of control is a factor, also. As someone who suffers from little to no anxiety here on the ground, I'm usually good at putting things in their proper perspective. I don't get too worked up about much, except flying. As for your second question: Tough to differentiate between those things. They're all related to what's going on in my head. If I had to rank one, I guess it would be the feelings I have about being airborne. I don't recall dreaming up specific images of the plane going down while I'm flying. Though I’m a certified NLP Practioner I never actually used the VK -Diss. method before. I don’t have clients and just use NLP personally mostly. So I made a multi -patterned strategy to vanquish my subject’s plane flying phobia. I planned on doing them one a day over the phone. The first was Bandler’s method as outlined in his book “the Guide to Tranceformations”.

    Chris - I only developed a fear of flying when I faked it. I was in a bad relationship with a woman from overseas and I didn’t want to visit her family. This I then had to keep up. It became REAL. The other thing was that as a child I dearly wanted to be a pilot but my vision was too poor and it was my biggest disappointment. I wonder which one of these it is.
    Before I faked the fear of flying though I had no issues.
    Any advice? Ever heard of this?

    VK disassociated is a good tool to take the edge off , but I wouldn’t normal use it for lasting change with a phobia.
    Yes feel free to mimic me or modelling as we call it. It’s great that people are using these tools.if you do use Time release the main key is to get your client to before the very first time they had the phobia. Rather than the worst time.
    If you have the first event the phobia will dissipated. If it doesn’t go back further.
    Good luck and let me know how it goes.

    Not sure about this technique, but the only thing that would calm me down is to watch youtube clips from the cockpit. You start to see it as actually being boring after a while.
    You move the plane toward the runway, gather speed and then physics does their thing. While in the air they are constantly monitored.
    I almost think that it be better to show people the view from the cockpit instead of the view of outside the plane.

    • @ChristopherPaulJones
      @ChristopherPaulJones  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you find doing that. works for you?

    • @km-my4un
      @km-my4un 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher Paul Jones Yes. This helped calm me down. It helped me to understand what was going during the flight, and how the pilot was in complete control. I believe seeing what is going on from the side window view just confuses our senses as to what is going on.
      Another technique that I have been working on is to treat my brain (or the part of the brain that causes this anxiety) as just another appendage. Your hand (or any other appendage) doesn't tell you what to do! Make your brain work for you and do what's best for you! When I started to learn how to control this anxiety by thinking like I've noticed my moments of anxiety being subdued the most.

    Hello, I should be flying next week. I am scared of flying and cannot even say what I fear. I can relate to many descriptions in this discussion. I like being in control, that is one thing. Also, I am not excited about the height, the turbulences are a killer for me and of course the fear that the plane will crash.. I flew before several times. Was not afraid at the beninning, although the plane movements were not pleasant for me. It got worse with each flight. I do not have any specific bad experience. And 1and1/2 year ago I took a course Flying without fear that was at the airport and they had that plane simulator, where we boarded, took off and everything. I was still afraid even though I knew I am in a building. We did this several times and I was more and more comfortable with it. But still not persuaded. Since I did not fly since that course, I cannot really say it worked or not... but considering I am writing this I guess it did not.. Also, there is this thing I did not notice others mentioning: I am afraid not to be afraid... weird? Superstitious? What should I do? I would love to fly..

Now I don’t consider this modeling because I think that is so more in depth than what I’m doing. I mean it’s obvious you really know what you’re doing; I on the other hand do not! I let that slip last night when I dealt with the subject I don’t know if that made a difference. I had already told her that I planned on using multiple patterns on her to chip away at the phobia.

    Hi Chris, My name is Ivana and from Bulgaria, which unfortunately cuts the chance to meet you but I'd still be happy to share and hear any advice from you.
    I'm 21 and I've flyed a couple of times when I was 6-8 years old but I don't remember any fear or feelings from then. When I flyed again in my teenage years I started to be affraid. I am not affraid when I talk about planes in everyday life but It's enough for me to see a video of the inside of a plane and hear the sounds and instructions of the crew ..and I'm already scared for my life.
    I try to explain for myself why this happens but It seems I just don't trust humans and what they have invented. I hate the feeling of lack of control, or the feeling that we are not moving even though we are in the sky and I know we are moving fast.
    When I watched you saying that we should make the picture sound funny I did kind of laugh and feel an odd relief in my stomach BUT the fact that I am scared of underestimating the situation makes me not want to make it funny.. I feel that underestimating is causing bad things to happen.
    So I ask myself : Is my main problem the fact that I refuse to think that flying is safe enough for me to be calm? Because how am I going to trick my mind to be calm when the word ''trick'' takes me a step back again...
    I'm sorry for the long message :( Feelings just can't be held in I suppose ...
    If you have time and will to talk to me by email: relti@abv.bg
    Thank you

      Well, this video is not meant as a process to try at home, as there are a lot of little thing that need to be done for you to be able to re-condition a phobia using this tool. I may see if I can do a video training on this in future.
      The main thing though is to get as high above it and way before so you can no longer feel the fear and take on the positive learnings.

    Sorry! While your awake your obviously thinking about a crash. Once you wake up from a nap, you will feel completely fine. 2, eat some food. Food will help you ease your nerves a bit. It will distract you from your thought for a while. 3, think of yourself crashing over and over. Soon you will think: 'it doesn't seem that real'. 4, keep thinking you will land safely. I think I've cleared all my phobias when I land. This could help, it also is distracting you from thinking about a crash.

    What happens if your unconscious mind cannot remember the first fear of flying?

    • @ChristopherPaulJones
      @ChristopherPaulJones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The unconscious sub conscious mind stores all your memories
      and emotions. If you cannot remember the first event that’s the conscious (analytical) mind talking.
      Half the work in solving a phobia is quieting the mind so you can work with the unconscious.

    I always get a window seat so I don’t get claustrophobic. I look at everything that is going on outside. It’s interesting. The chair I am sitting on is mine. I own it. It is my comfort chair. The breathing through the nose must be consistent and don’t breathe fast through the mouth. Then look forward to a cup of tea/coffee. And you’re are half way there. Do something now like writing down that you are ok and draw a house, a river and some trees. Occupy yourself. Then the fulfillment that you have arrived.
    Remember the consistent breathing through your nose. I feel fine. When I take off I’m not scared anymore because I have been watching the dragsters and I feeike I want to beat them so mentally it’s just go man go.

    Hi! I'm 18 years old. I'm going to Korea in first week of March and I'm really terrified to get on the plane. I always think that when I get on and the plane starts to move I will suddenly panic and ask the stewardess to get me off the plane. I really don't want that to happen but I'm scared. I've never been on an airplane. I've always imagined my self working as a stewardess but now it's difficult to imagine that anymore. I hope you can help me. :)
