This is AWSOME ! I trained here , decades ago, wow those kids are soo young , best place in the country to get good at EMS , made me laugh and brought back a crap load of good memories
I had to call the EMS once when I thought I was having a heart attack. (Turns out it was an anxiety attack) afterwards I made a basket and put all kinds of goodies in it along with a card thanking them and dropped it off at the ER. It was the least I could do. These people are real, ACTUAL heroes.
Wow, who is the blonde at 02:16??!! I think I need a paramedic now! Another great show of yours, Rick Mercer. I really like your hands on attitude on your show.
@Dream Girls Daily Please don't be so naive. Just because its a show does not for a second mean that all of Rick Mercers' actions were acceptable or tolerated by the training academy. From the moment Rick put his stethoscope up to the instructor's neck, I could feel the tension arising. Speaking as a Paramedic in Ontario, this was very hard to watch, laws were broken, he did not come to a complete stop at a red light, and lights and sirens are not a toy. Every time you activate lights and sirens, you put you, your partner, your patient, and everyone else's lives on the road at risk. It is to be used in emergency situations only and to depict that it was funny to activate lights and sirens to a KFC is utterly disrespectful to the job.
+Jason Angulo But that's not the laughing Brad that he was when I knew him .... jeez, Brad, crack a chuckle here and there! I'll bet he was shitting bricks when Rick got into the driver's seat, mind you, even though I bet there wasn't really anyone in the back ... neither the BCAS nor the J.I. would ever allow it.
Pk peep xD Well, what I took is the first level of EMR. The PCP is 2 months. I don't know about ACP and ALS though. But yeah, I studied it in JIBC but not in that campus. It was in the New Westminster. And these guys here are studying PCP. And I think 3 years for you guys is the complete training. o-o
Only one year to become a Primary Care Paramedic in BC through JIBC? In Ontario it takes a two year Paramedic program, but this coming September it will be a three year advanced diploma Paramedic program!
What are the differences between Paramedics from the US and Canada? I'm in a Paramedic program right now and we have 7-10 week semesters. 2 semesters are Basic EMT, 1 semester each for EMT-Specialest, Cardology, Pathophisiology, Assessment, and Pediatric. So I am curious at what level the Canadian Paramedics are. Do the start IV's? Ect. Funny video!!! I rarely drink coffee and I don't drink "sports drinks" either! lol Glad I am not the only one!
Canadians can do more than US at pretty much all levels. Their advanced care paramedics or their critical care paramedics are basically doctors. They can do A LOT
And technically all they do when they arrive first is apply the "stare of life". And technically that is because the incredibly bloated fire budget takes away from the emergency services that actually NEED the money to hire more paramedics. Number of fire calls going down...number of fire fighters going up. Number of ambulance calls going up....number of paramedics going down. See where there is an issue?
If anything I would say the police are always the first to respond, police are always driving around on patrol, paramedics and firefighters wait until they get calls then go out, police are always out there.
Awful Aim lol you don't know what you are talking about! yes there are 2 dollar and hour stations there is no denying that, but it isn't for life.. when a paramedic joins BC Ambulance as an EMR (Which is what i am) you work at a rural station making 2 dollars an hour waiting for a call, but then when i go back to school to become a PCP, i will then have enough seniority to maybe go and work in Vancouver! a PCP in Vancouver is making AT LEAST 27 an hour to start.. then it gets better, the more years you do the more your pay goes up, some paramedics in Vancouver working alpha shifts are on 32 and hour plus! if you can get through the years of 2 bucks an hour, and get yourself into Vancouver, you can have a very successful career financially for BC Ambulance.
+Mike Rowe LOOOL Your reply is incorrect. You will be sent back to $2/hour Kilo shift until you gain a seniority of about 5 years or so before you can think of getting a station in a metro city where you work full time irregular shifts.
ImNotClifford This guy knows what's up. There's a reason why the jibc trains a thousand fucking medics a year, its because ya'll get pumped and dumped by bcas by the dozens each day. What a scam.
Awful Aim Yes, I'm also a PCP so I would know but not employed by BCAS. It's not entirely JIBC's fault but BCAS and the applicant's lack of knowledge of how the system works. Are you by any chance working for BCAS or something Awful Aim?
The look on the instructors face when rick was driving LOL but the students looked like they were having fun:)
Yeah, he did seem a little PO'd. Incredulous.
I think Rick should do the JIBC recruiting videos!!
Rick Mercer has just to much fun at work
I would give anything for his job!!!
This is AWSOME ! I trained here , decades ago, wow those kids are soo young , best place in the country to get good at EMS , made me laugh and brought back a crap load of good memories
Should have went though a Tim Hortons drive thru to make it more Canadian
Tims has been American owned for quite a few years now.
Oh that guy was not happy about the ambulance driving.
Can you imagine waking up everyday and doing Ricks job......life worth living!!!,
i just love this man to the moon and back
Love these RMRs and Rick. Glad they are posted to enjoy. 😁
That girl was so cute!

I've had two panick attacks. They definitely can feel like heart attacks lol
@@mdogzino Over the last two years, I think EVERYONE has.
I miss Rick not being on CBC any more. Best of luck in the future
As a lifeguard who is trained in CPR, I was dying of laughter watching Rick do CPR!!! He should come to my workplace!!!
I wish we in the States were as patriotic as the Canadians. I enjoy The Mercer Report and the pride that comes through in the people he talks to.
This was a great segment, best one in a long time!
Wow, who is the blonde at 02:16??!! I think I need a paramedic now! Another great show of yours, Rick Mercer. I really like your hands on attitude on your show.
I forgot that this show even existed
5:50 that shake of the head says so much.

Rick Mercer is the absolute best!!! If he can't make you laugh out loud....you need the laughing gas, seriously....you do.
2:16 damn i wanna be a paramedic now
Forget being a paramedic, i might just some how become injured.
Made my heart rate rise through the roof!
love rick!
Good show !
Must've been a fun day for the workers at that KFC
That was hilarious! I worked out of Kelowna often and know Brad quite well.
+Jason Angulo But that's not the laughing Brad that he was when I knew him .... jeez, Brad, crack a chuckle here and there!

If Brad is that fat bald guy he is a prick and one of the worst instructors I've ever known.
2:50 👏👏👏😄😄😄
I've only done the EMR course so far, and boy, so much information for only 3 weeks!
+micanikko it's 3 years here not 3 weeks... in Ontario and Quebec. 3 weeks must be crazy

+micanikko PCP is 8-12 months. ACP is 18 months.
+micanikko PCP is 6months plus precepting.
+micanikko ALS is approx: 2yrs plus mentorship/residency

4:57 my God the words of a man who is regretting his life choices
This guy is fucking gold!!!!!! Hilarious :)
Food emergency... load and go...Rick, so funny ;)
OMG… That is too funny🤣
That KFC stop. Hahahaha. Brilliant!
Well isn't that a charming and mature reply.
I love it when we went to KFC LOL.
And everyone get on of these? Everyone gets one of those,
WATER THOSE?!
Fire Department only assist if the EMTs onscene require assistance or stronger people to get stuff.
the look on his face was proceless
He said no siren and he put it on anyways. I thought that was really respectful and narcissistic 🥹
imagine if you saw a Para smoking a cig or had just done so- how much faith would you have
this entire video played like an episode of trailer park boys
Kelowna eh? I live about 3-4 hours from there In Chilliwack! Been to Kelowna MANY times
That girl is just too cute.
I wanted to see rick take laughing gas
Hey, that's where I live!
The funniest part of that, to me, is that Brad used to work at KFC! lol
Haha ha ha ha ... Peter Kent ... hahahaha ... Environment Minister ... LOL!
Not where I work. Fire department does fires only. 1 of them has taken a CPR course.
And through a school zone...
this guy's political satire.. i dont understand it but it sounds so relatable lol
well said!
i don't think Rick needs any drugs that make him MORE upbeat.
I would be vomiting in the back with all that jostling around! I died when he went into KFC for a few buckets of chicken. :OP
Me too. I thought the trainee paramedics might have gone weightless.
That was pretty funny!!! His face when he blew through the red light! Also some cute girls there training, maybe time to consider a new career :D
His joke about it being "season 40 of the Mercer Report" makes me a little sad. :\
Would it be strange if Rick Mercer showed up as a paramedic?
Called us "Ambulance Driver"? Really Rick? Really??
omg its so funny👍🏻😁😂
But how hilarious would he have been on the laughing gas!?
So I've gone to the JIBC and I have no idea how the hell they let Rick get away with this..

They generally equate to a EMT-I and then our ALS is your EMT-P

amazing lol
Hahahaha what a nutjob.hahaha that was funny.whos hungry.kfc by ambulance
Ahhhh....my vaporizer does the same thing. :P
Technically, in Canadian cities, Fire Services are typically the first to respond to an emergency call.
lol :) I think you're right.
Funny stuff
Because their sitting at base with no real fire calls to do, while police and paramedics are busy saving lifes

KFC ? No Swiss Chalet ??
Good Point!
They should have hit up Okanagan Street Food! Heck, the Urban Fare across the parking lot has better chicken.
is it me or does everyone i see in BC have the last name fraser?
that blonde
the instructor did not look impressed with Rick's driving and turning the sirens on!!
Rick mercer driving code. I almost couldn't watch he was so bad (read hilarious) at driving code 4.
