Jeff, I pulled the trigger and bought my first EMTB!................A Yamaha Moro 5! 😜 Would be great if you can do a review on it! Love to get your take on it. I'm impressed so far. I was debating a Rise or Levo eventually, but couldn't pass the great deals on the Moros now. And their reviews were very convincing to boot!
Congrats Norbert, I hear good things about that Yamaha, and they have a ton of market share on Japanese market bikes that we never see in USA! Enjoy it!
I ended up with a very similar bike, the Giant Trance Elite E+, which seems about half a generation behind... but I got it for less than $4k from the TPC closing, so I can't hate that. I think that this trail 140/150 travel size bike is about the perfect middle ground, like you talk about in the intended uses. Really happy with the bike, it's my first try with a Yamaha eBike motor. Not sure if you've ridden any of these Giant bikes, but worth comparing against if you do!
Congrats on the sweet new bike!!! I've never ridden the Yamaha motor personally, but I've heard good things. Also- when I visited Japan in 2017, I saw a TON of those motors all over the place! Yamaha has a big chunk of the eMTB market in Japan.
My riding is part rocky, rooty, pedaly trails and part epic long rides with steep, technical, extended climbs. My choices are being narrowed down to the Rise LT and the Amflow. Not sure I want to roll the dice on an Amflow, and I hear it's even more flex than the rise. Every other full power Emtb just seems too heavy for my style.
Yeah the Amflow is absolutely not a proven product. Not even the motor. I peeped the Amflow Facebook group, and saw quite a few speed sensor issues... Even though DJI makes amazing products, and I own a bunch of them, it seems early to dive into one of their first attempts at a bicycle. I have reached out to DJI to ask for an Amflow to test, and they said "maybe!" Fingers crossed it comes together!
I have the rise and ride super rocky chunky and some long trail and it's pretty awesome. We t from racing enduro and this bike handles all the same trails
some interesting new pedal choices out there.. magnetic and the outlier pedal. Having only ever rode with flats and being a newer mtb owner, would love some of your input on new products and when to try clipless, I see you have some content on the topic but anything coming that looks at newer products?
Courageous move mentioning the internally routed headset up front. I wish more reviews could mention things that make a bike not something I’d ever own up front
Compared to the Bosch SX, this motor is silent. I dont notice significant noise with either the FAZUA on the Shuttle SL, or on this EP801 RS on the Rise.
Great video and riding Jeff 🤘Is it possible to test it with Fox 38 fork and 630WAh battery? I believe that a 38 fork suits better to this bike! P.S. You can buy a Shimano EN600 display from Orbea when you order the bike or as an aftermarket part. Also every Garmin connects with Shimanos motors.
Sorry Dragon, I don't post locations publicly, as it gives too much attention to one specific zone, where as keeping it on the DL disperses users among a wider range of possible locations. Everything is on trailforks though!
One thing I noticed was no mention of the Shimano Di2 electric shifting and auto/free shifting. Even though it's not a bike specific feature, it would be interesting to hear your take on it. Future video idea?
With tiny OLED display modules costing under $20, and 10 addressable LEDs costing under $1, I don't get how Shimano would not put a battery indicator on some units. And even when they do, you don't get a percentage display. 2 bars can be 39% or 20%. The difference between pushing it up that last climb or riding it :O .. I just don't get it. That said, I am on my 3rd ep8, my neighbor is on the 4th in 2 years. I will never get a single Shimano part ever again :) ... Also: Garmin. I wear a Garmin when riding my e-bike because that way I get a percentage display.
I did try to link up my COROS Dura GPS, it works great on the Shuttle SL to show battery percentage, but it never worked on the Orbea. Maybe I can buy a display? I dunno, I end up riding regular pedal bikes a lot more so I haven’t put too much effort into figuring it out. As for motors, I’ve actually never had an issue with a Shimano motor. Same with FAZUA. I have had a few minor issues with speed sensors or battery mounts over the years- but with all brands, none of them are 100% reliable. I definitely prefer the Shimano and FAZUA over the Bosch on the Norco though.
WELL DONE, JEFF...If I heard correctly, you're a Shimano ambassador. If so, please elaborate on the 25' Orbea Rise Di2 version. Would be interested in your thoughts on this fabrication? Thx!
Orbea bikes are hand assembled and already gone through in their own factory along with the most environmentally sustainable packaging so I highly doubt Jensen repackages them.
I've received several of these. Jenson USA absolutely builds and re-boxes them, which brings initial work to a minimum. My neighbor recently bought a Rise from Jenson, and I helped her unbox it. It was just pedals, front wheel, and handlebar to install. In comparison, all the bikes that come direct to me from Orbea (media loaner bikes) are much less assembled- you can literally see in the video how the bars were empty as I was doing the initial build.
The entire ebike industry is so far behind in user interface/experience compared to Apple and Google's OS's (apps). Shimano's app is awful and can't be used when the bike is charging. Why? Of all the times I want to the app to be useful is when the bike is charging. You know, like alerts for percentage of charging and time remaining. Also the EP 8 handle bar display shows 5 bars so a battery at 100% is the same as 80.01%. I could keep going but I have hope emtb companies will come out of 2005 and jump into 2025.
Steve! Huge fan of your show! Thanks for the feedback. I absolutely spend a lot of time writing the voice overs. Trying to condense 4 months of riding into 15 minutes is something I can't do eloquently on the fly. Hope you're enjoying your Tazer!

I’m only 30 seconds in and this is some of the best riding footage in any of your videos! It makes me want to ride
Great analysis of the bike - thanks, Jeff! So helpful!

Hi, nice review. Are you gonna test Ari Nebo Peak? Looking forward comparison with Rise and Shuttle :) Happy 2025!
Great review and amazing riding! Maybe you should try the Propain Sresh it's a similar bike, and I think you'd enjoy it.
Would love for you to ride a Propain Tyee! My friends occam LT is super fun to ride so this would be a great bike for me.

I'm hoping it works out soon! Would be a great opportunity!

Great riding! So the 3200 ft vertical range of the small battery is based on capping the max torque at 65NM? What is the max torque on trail mode?
Courageous move mentioning the internally routed headset up front.

Maybe the Wild is the Orbea for you. Many say its toooo stiff. 🤷🏻♂️
Nice review, just like all the others btw. What about that famous Shimano rattle? Is it any better than the gen 1 Rise?

Surprised they haven't sent you a modern Wild!
Maybe next year!
Would love to see this review!
I think you've got a little speed up on your narration in the phone-battery section, jeff!
I thought it was funnier that way!
@@JeffKendallWeedI did laugh! Right on
Love ur vids keep it u, I want to be like your channel🎉
Great video. However, you need to read manual. Power on by holding power button for 3 second s until green light turns on.
Anyone recognize the trails Jeff is riding in the dry countryside?
I'm guessing E. WA but i dont recognize anything. Teanaway?
Winthrop?

My opinion it doesn’t matter what you ride
Thanks Robert!

Not at those prices.

You can't beat the Deals at Jenson right now!
Right? This is a great time to be in the market for a newer bike. On the flip side, it's scary watching so many brands struggle!
@JeffKendallWeed Exactly, where would Mtb be today without Rocky Mountain and Kona and GT , these brands are worth saving

Would matthes go biking with Jeff if they met at the trailhead??
Matthes doesn’t ride with fans! 😂 I blew my chances by admitting fandom… 😂
@@tayaray No one can hang with me on the trails here around Vegas so it would be a waste of time.
😂 😝 I’ve only ridden bear’s best and blue diamond in Vegas- was “Bear’s Best” actually named as an homage to Steve’s ability level?
