Goodwill has lost their minds when it comes to pricing! I refuse to go anymore. A lot of people have been complaining!
Agree thrift store pricing has gone mad even here at Value Village in Ottawa Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I agree, and I've all but quit going thrifting altogether. I used to go at least twice a week. They've gotten so greedy and it's just not enjoyable anymore. I was glad to see Julie refuse to pay the high prices. But, unfortunately I watch others that will pay it. 😞
Why do you think the owner is a millionaire? That’s why I donate to other causes, like animal shelters!
Exactly I so agree with you what the hell 😊😮😢
You haven't seen anything yet until you come to Canada. They sell dollar store items at higher prices than what you can get them new for at the dollar store
It’s simple. Reselling has driven up the prices. Goodwill caught on to selling for profit and decided to cut out the middle man. Now regular people doing for themselves are paying the price. Other shops are catching on as well. The charity shops near me are all pricing up like Goodwill. We had to know this would happen eventually.
What’s absurd about this is that a lot of these types of stores were founded on charity and are stocked by donation. A reseller and an individual in need, or even as you stated, ‘regular people’ paying the same price for a product shouldn’t result in this or make a difference at all, but 🤷🏻♀️ Greed .
@nangel270 You hit the nail on the head…..that is exactly what happened, now everyone else is paying the price. It’s really not worth thrifting anymore.
Reselling gets on my nerves! I like to go thrifting to find myself treasures! And other people are driving up the prices
So tired of hearing re-sellers bitch. I donate my extras to non-profit thrifts that support a good program& so people who can't even afford Walmart can outfit their homes.
The great thing about resellers is they are getting things sold around the world to people who collect things or want an item they can't find for themselves.
The downside is that resellers triple their prices and claim its to cover overhead costs when that isn't the case. I am all for resellers making a profit but I get really frustrated when they rip people off.
Thrift stores are not being smart about what they are doing because if they continue to try and compete with resellers (who market worldwide), they will end up getting shut down since they are centralized. 😊 thrift stores are realizing how much resellers are getting however a brick and mortar store only has so many customers before they become repeats so if people are realizing how ridiculously overpriced they are getting, you will lose customers.
Greedwill strikes again! Those prices are outrageous!
Goodwill prices have been going up. It’s ridiculous considering people
Donate this stuff.
I love that sweater!!
Our Goodwill in South Mississippi is so expensive I quit going. I was told it was because of resellers taking advantage. However, look up the CEO’s salary of Goodwill. The employees make minimum wage or a small amount above. I will leave that thought for others to draw their own conclusions.
What does it matter if it's "resellers" buying? Isn't that the point of being open-to sell things, to make money?! It's ridiculous thinking and they need to keep their prices low because most Goodwills have so much stuff to sell, that they dump inventory over into their dumpsters without even looking at it because they "have too much." Their CEO should be ashamed of himself. Greedy Ahole!
Resellers are the they have gone up. Has nothing to do with the CEO.
Associates make $9.26/hour the CEO almost makes a million. I had no idea thanks for the information.
And all products are donated…..😒
@kathrynbailey7174 yes, a 6 digit figure annual income the CEO's drag down. Not too shabby for ALL donated items! 😡 It is NOT the resellers causing the higher prices.
What you do with a piece you think the tape is going to damage with removal, is either you or the register person remove it before you buy it. Then you have the choice not to purchase if so.
I’m very happy to see that many many people are finally realizing how wrong prices are at the Goodwill! I feel like I was the only one 15 years ago complaining about used T-shirts priced at $9.99 that were donated for free! Sale prices brand new are cheaper! And the housewares section is out of control. Why are people still donating to them?
Goodwill has been pricing out the ppl they are supposed to be helping. Every since thriftiness has become "posh" and the Internet made it even more popular thrift stores have become regular priced as a regular store. Sad when you think about it.
Resellers aren’t driving up the price, greed by a “non-profit” is. Everything is 100% profit and they don’t want anyone else to get the $ they view as their’s. They now sell the “good stuff” on eBay and over price the rest to sell locally. They need to get that non profit pulled and pay taxes like the corporation they are.
I actually own 2 of those Pfaltzgraff sets.
They are called the GAZEBO style.
I have had mine for over 20 years & still use them daily!!!😊😃
Ridiculous when they put a price on an item that is higher than the original price sticker
The prices in there are about like the ones at Goodwill in my town.
I live in NC and the prices are insane. I envy the cheap prices you pay at your home.
Me too but I’ve noticed all of our other thrift shops going up as well. 😩 I loved it when thrifting wasn’t so popular. 😕
Same here in Wilmington NC, the prices are so expensive.I don't go shifting anymore
I donate to them and then they up the prices. I’m about done.
I'm from the UK and I don't really understand what these 'goodwill' shops are 🤔 are they charity shops? We have charity shops on the High Street in the UK - for specific charities like the British Heart Foundation, Age UK, Oxfam, local hospice shops, they are run by volunteers, you donate your old stuff to help a good cause and buy stuff for the same reason - if 'goodwill' isn't for charity, why on earth would anyone donate stuff or buy stuff from them?! I can't get my head round it and I also can't believe how big they are - goodness me - if it's not for charity then donate and buy somewhere else.........
I was on the edge of my seat!!! You kept walking away from those beautiful white plates!! I was so relieved when you saw the salad plates!!! Great buy!!!!!
I refuse to give to or buy from, Goodwill or Salvation Army. Besides offering jobs, I also used to think that they kept their prices low for 'poor' people to buy there. When I found out otherwise, I started trying to find churches that give items away to the needy in their community!
You’re better off selling on marketplace for real cheap if you want to drop off to Goodwill. I might sell a big basket for $3 on marketplace so people who don’t have a big bank account can afford it.,what the hell is wrong with goodwill?
I know Goodwill has to pay labor but they have gotten way too greedy considering their stock is donated and then they have the nerve to ask you to round up. When they don’t give 1 penny to charity! I still go there . But it just gets to me how greedy their CEO is
They do not pay their employees a decent wage and they browbeat them all the time. The managers even scream at the employees on the sales floor. Nothing on the dish section/wood nic naks are below 3.99.
The goodwill stores near me in Ohio also price things incredibly high, as in higher than retail. They also sell knockoff designer handbags as genuine. I do still shop my local goodwill but very selectively.
Yep I am in Ohio too. Crazy prices
I’m like you…very selective.
If you use a hairdryer to get the tape off it’s easier x
Ouch! Those prices were painful! Come on Goodwill, this stuff is donated!!! How can people shop your store??
The costs involved in running the store include building, utilities, wages for employees and topped off with the exhorbatant salary of the CEO?
Yes, Goodwill has gone berserk! I donate all of my things to a local mission that resales them at a much better price AND all of their proceeds go to help others in our own town.
Girl, i would buy that hand turned wood bowl in a heartbeat. Even at $11.99. All day long.
Nope, I quit all Goodwill shopping, it’s ridiculous here in Southern Ohio.
I don’t donate to them anymore either.
The little blue n white creamer you picked beside the other (you called creamer in blue n white)
is a gravy boat. And the pretty flower ones was gravy boats also. (Longer ones)
Thrift Grift plain and simple. Greed for donated items. Now when I donate, I drop the junk off at Goodwill and take the decent stuff to real charity thrift stores.
That goodwill pricing is like the one by me, RIDICULOUS! I found a thrift store right next door to goodwill and they are so reasonable and every Thursday at 3:00 to closing everything in store is 40%off. If you go Thursday morning the store is packed but if you go around 6 the shelves are almost empty. They are smart and they actually help charities, churches and the community.
I’m so glad you got the plates!!! I collect the White Heritage Pfaltzgraff and I’m addicted!!!
Those are the prices I normally see, again why I’m so jealous of your stores, especially the bins. We do not have those at all!
I live in New York, and about five years ago Goodwill prices skyrocketed. When I watch people thrifting in other states I can’t believe how inexpensive the prices are at their thrift stores….it makes me want to move 🤣.
Nice to see you doing different kind of video, longer and not bins!
Those prices are what Michigan has had since COVID. You’re lucky that your local Goodwill isn’t the same. Every thrift store around me, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Volunteers of America, have decided they are Target. I hardly ever go thrifting anymore. I’m looking forward to garage sale season. BYW, I don’t live in an affluent area so I’m not sure what has happened 🤷🏻♀️
For a large non profit Goodwill’s CEO actually doesn’t make much considering the revenue brought in the amount of people they employ. I had always heard the same thing, but actually did the research before regurgitating info.
Sentara Health and St Jude’s Research are also a large non profits and the top tiers are bringing in well over a BILLION dollars. A 6 salary figure isn’t even much these days, so the President of Goodwill taking home $452k isn’t outrageous to me at all- PLUS they donate $0.82 on every dollar made. It isn’t greed it’s Capitalism at its finest or worst, depending how you look at it and it’s seeped into every aspect of commercialism. 🤷🏻♀️
And to think they are DONATED pieces! I’m another person that has quit donating & buying from Goodwill😡😡
Try carefully aiming your hairdryer at the tape on the horse. Sometimes helpful getting tape off without marring the piece. Good luck.
Welcome to the rest of our lives! After going to the bins I’m having a really hard time purchasing these high prices in the good will stores
I’m
Like y’all! It’s used and broken ‘ how is it 12.99?
HORSE!! Love the horse. If possible let me know the price.
Hey Julie, I have to tell you I was watching a thrifter yesterday and she found a leather horse missing its ears. What is with that? I just laughed when I thought about you picking up those two horses at the bins that had no ears. Thanks for showing us your thrifting trips. I really enjoy watching and I like going when I can to the Good Will.
Goodwill is going crazy with the price raising. I had to stop going to one in the big city. Luckily my local goodwill hasn’t gone up too much.
They are way over price. It was supposed to help those who couldn’t afford new. Now they are more expensive than new. And, they ask for you to round up to help pay for their training.
Our Goodwill bins are in a bad part of town and look like everything is straight out of the dumpster or landfill. Went once, never again.
I would have bought everything that you had in your cart, you would get sticker shock if you shopped at Goodwill in Des Moines, IA. I don’t shop at Goodwill anymore, I go to other thrift stores in my area.
I agree, I don’t take anything there nor do I shop there anymore. Don’t need to help the CEO buy another vacation home.
I’m near 2 GW’s Waterloo IA area, but sometimes I hit the 4 GW’s in the Cedar Rapids area and yup they are high. I haven’t been to the Iowa City/ Coralville IA GW’s for a good 6 months but I’m sure they’re just a high.
I have stopped shopping Goodwill. They have upped their prices to ridiculous and I am not paying them. I used to go several times a week not anymore. Let me add that I think some of the employees pick thru the best and get them before the rest are put out. I will just not support Goodwill anymore
Get the plates girl!
This is what I am talking about are good wheels over here are outrageous they get this stuff donated to them people on fixed incomes can’t even go in there and buy anything anymore because you can find cheaper stuff sometimes at Wallmark in the clearance section
My plates don’t matchy-match. White goes with any other color and season/theme. Did the tape damage the horse?
😊🐎
I also don't really go to goodwill anymore. I stick to a small thrift store near me that actually does do charity. There are a few around me and the vast majority of them price their items much lower than goodwill. Even the salvation army store near me is cheaper.
You probably already know about a blow dryer to remove tape right. Not sure how it works with leather though. That horse is nice.
Not only are prices at my GW high but it's a dump. Dressing rooms closed so u can't try on clothes so if u try on at home and u don't like for any reason you can't return.
Don't patronize any more.
The prices at goodwill have gotten so high. I guess it depends on your area. I'm in NJ where the cost of living is so high.
I’ve noticed an increase in our thrift shop prices too. Hope you checked all your pretty white plates for chips, cracks and utensil scratches!
All of our thrift stores play the music really loud. Goodwill stores keep going up on priced & our bins (outlets) have raised prices too.
I am in south Ga, and this how the prices are in my store. The Habitat Restore is even worse. I would get the plates. The person pricing probably doesn’t know the dishes are fairly expensive. I found Lenox white mugs for $1.00 a few days ago.
I'm in South Georgia, too. Julie just doesn't know how high it is for us!
The Habitat is Chicago suburbs is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. They sell the furniture at retail prices. I stopped going there😒
Love the plates! Glad you grabbed them!
I live in TN and I can’t believe how cheap you get things. I’m envious.
That sweater is absolutely beautiful 💖
Prices are way too high anymore!!
I have asked them at the register to let me remove the tape to see if item is damaged before I buy it. So far they always let me do it.
Definitely becoming "Greedwill"
I hope the horse survived the ghastly tape job
Dont go back there its ridiculous
Who prices this stuff. Most of it is just second hand junk
Heat the tape lightly and pull off slowly
WOW that place is WAY to Expensive 🤨
Yes on the plates
Greedy dealers have pushed the prices up.
Those are great prices compared to our area Goodwills!😍
I say thrift stores should let the resellers do what they do and not raise prices. If a reseller is helping to keep things out of the landfills and getting the items two people that appreciate them, that’s great!
That shouldn’t effect anything that Goodwill is trying to do… If anything, they are getting more sales. There’s no need for them to raise their prices so high! Like others have said, everything is donated!
Use a hair dryer to remove the tape from the horse
Prices are outrageous. Nope.
Cute items but wow the prices!!
Those prices are the same here in South Texas. Ridiculous! We were in Millington, TN just before Christmas and that goodwill wasn't open yet. Glad I didn't waste my time. Anyways, our goodwill (3 days ago) had an unwrapped wood plank from DT prices at $3.09. Thats insane!
Salad plates, not saucers
Machine laid not carved
In CT the prices are sky high. That first basket you found for $2.99 would have been priced for $5.99 to $7.99 or even higher. I hope the price hike doesn't affect your shopping to much.
Love that sweater!💃💃💃
Julie, if you like white dinner wear, you will never regret buying the Pfaltzgraff pieces. I have spent so much on expensive pieces for parties and having to wash it all by hand, I switched to my white everyday dishes about 20 years ago that I could put in the dishwasher!
Now you see my delima, things are priced so high! It's like going to an antique store. I picked up some pottery the other day from Chezolvokia it was 39$, I quickly put it back on the shelf. 😢
Obviously Goodwill has forgotten that everything has been DONATED ! They aren’t buying items, that need added cost to cover the purchase price. Our Goodwill stores are ridiculous. They had a beautiful nativity set during the Christmas season and each piece was individually priced! It would have been over $100 to buy it all. Sometimes matched sets of dishes are priced individually, rather than as a set. I purchased two identical scrabble sets, as I wanted the letters for a project. They were not marked the same price. I asked if they could be sold for the same price and was told that they are not allowed to change any prices, so I had to pay one dollar more for the same item.
Same problem in New York State. I am sticking to church sales, household sales (on the last day) or the AMVets thrift store. When people ask me where to donate items I recommend AMVets.
Those crazy prices are exactly like my goodwill
Same in East central Iowa.
Over by the baskets, I was yelling at you to get me those three squarish (?) white painted baskets with the pink flowers on them. "JULIE, get me those three white baskets nested inside each other.....NOOOoooooo, don't walk past them!"😭😭😭
Goodwill here in Iowa has a Fri, Sat & Sun "veterans 10% discount" for your entire bill. It saves a little bit more off the total. But they wont allow you to use your accumulated dollars from your rewards card either.
I sure hope you get back into your goodwill bins and just goodwills. They are so much fun to watch you thrift. Just wish you could make them longer like go to 2 or 3 a day and make the videolast longer. I know one person i watch goes to a bunch of garage sales and then goodwills maybe 1 or 2. Its just so much fun, but like i always say everybodys different you do you. I just love listening to you cause you have a soft amazing voice and i love the accent. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
I would 100% get the plates
Julie, have you been to Blues City Thrift? It has become one of my favorites in the Memphis area. It’s at Quince and Kirby.
Enjoy your Goodwill prices now, if they do what all my stores are doing, the prices will look similar to this store very soon. Ridiculous prices charged on items defective, dirty, damaged, and free to them.
You got a good deal on the Pfaltzgraff Gazebo. That's the older USA backmark. Nice! They'll get utensil marks as you use them. You can use baking soda and water to get those marks off.
Cobalt is my fave. I collect unusual shaped pcs. Ex: Squirrels, leaves, roosters, etc
Glad you bought the plates, love them.,also the horse & basket ..i liked the white hanging planters, with the black hoops on i would of cut them off? Oh the sweater was gorgeous❤
That's my Pfaltzgraff pattern that I got for my wedding instead of china. The creamer and sugar bowl are very sweet too if you come across them.
I stop there every time I'm get to Memphis. (Not much i should say, I live in Dyersburg). There use to be a Goodwill Bins next to it but its been a while since it closed. I keep saying I'm going to check out your Goodwill.
I love the horse!
I am a senior citizen , Monday is 10% off for us or color of the week is 50% off. An item has to something spectacular for me to purchace without one of the discount codes.
New videos??
Fishing pole holdders
Prices are reduculas
I live in Central kentucky and our Goodwill is very high. Does not have the bins either.
I have that sign at 3:42 can't remember what I paid for it. That Goodwill prices are too high....
My mom has that dish pattern only in yellow. She bought them in the 70’s I think.
