  • Gear ratio and bushing/ bearing configurations from the factory. If I missed a reel please comment below, I rolled all the red reel models into one because they all come bushing/bushing from the factory.

I heard that the Taiwan made reels were made by Otomo, who also makes Akios, and maybe some other rebrands. Some of them are pretty outstanding with machined helical cut stainless main and pinion gears, 1 piece machined aluminum frames, but those mostly don’t have the level wind. They cast a 5 oz weight in England over 300 yards. Pretty serious tournament casters over there.

Yes Omoto made the Taiwan Abu's. They also made the RNC7000 for bass pro shops and they are still making the omoto chief series. I never messed with th akois reels, but Omoto turns out some good reels.

Thank You for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I am a huge Abu Sweeden fan & have a small collection That I have picked up . I cant seem to find bearings for my 7000 that just has bushings. Do you know where I can find the right ones ? Thanks for any help you can give. Like your videos & have subscribed.

It has ridges on the end caps, we call them humpy's and those reels take inch bearings I don't remember the size Allied Bearing in Muskogee, OK use to have them, they don't carry them anymore. but they may know who does. I was just swapping out the spools and running the metric 3X10X4's, You can still find spools on Southwest Parts every once in a while, Just have to go through all the schematics and enter parts numbers till you find one for the sticker side sweden or taiwan versions.

I missed a few reels and misremembered a couple, the 7000 TC ( tournament choice) had bushing on the drive shaft and bushings on the spool, the 7000 pro rockets had drive shaft bushings on all 3 colors, The 7000 pro shop was bushing driveshaft and spool, The 7200 was also drive shaft bushing / spool bushing reel, as was the ABU SEVEN.
The reels I missed, 7000ssc3 burgandy had drive shaft and handle bearings, 7000CT black Had handle bushing and spool bearings, I missed the 7500c which had handle bushing and spool bearings, the 7500c3 7500 blue CT and the 7500 big game all had handle bearings and spool bearings

I only worked on a couple of the 10000cl's years ago and don't remember any of the specifics on them. They were a 2 speed well built reel, or I would have worked on more of them.
