Chevy Traverse: Won't Go Over 40mph ABS & Stability Light On

  • In this video I bring you along as I have a look at a Chevy Traverse that has a customer complaint that when she tries to pick up speed the ABS and traction control goes crazy. More than likely a failed magnetic ring on a wheel bearing but we still need to find out what one is the bad one. -Enjoy!

I just had a 2010 Traverse come into my shop with a similar yet different problem. Two other shops in town fired the parts cannon and the last shop was wanting to replace several modules (EBCM, ECM, TCM, and BCM), to the tune of several thousand dollars. Turns out the EBCM was causing part of the bus to go offline, making the ECM, TCM quit communicating. Wish I would have had the camera rolling so I could have done a wanna-be SMA video of the diag steps I took. Doing a powers and ground check at the EBCM connector, I found that one of the two grounds to the EBCM was good enough to light a test light, but not good enough to light up my "load bank" of halogen bulbs. Cleaned the eyelet for the ground, found and repaired the bad section of wire, and all the weird electrical gremlins went away. All done in about half an hour and I had an ecstatic customer. Thanks for being the inspiration to take on even more troubleshooting jobs than I already had been doing. You're the best!

I used to maintain a 1969 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow which had LH wheel nut threads on the left side. Had both front hubs off once to regrease the bearings, and got them mixed up when I refitted them. That caused some confusion (and cursing) when I tried to refit the wheels and realised what I had done (2 sets of brake calipers on each side to remove and refit as well to put it right).

    • @jonathan1427

LH threaded nuts/bolt heads should have a groove through all the points, half way up the hex. If they don't, it's probably import garbage and should be replaced because the grade mark can't be trusted either.

We have a month longer rust belt in northern Minnesota parking pads fall out pull everything out never used them in 50 years anyway no inspections here we run them till the wheels fall off just keep pulling the rusted shit off only a fool would by a new vehicle in this state of rust money down the hole faster then even the feds can spend it you find one 3 or 4 years old with low miles half the price

Eric I thought you owned the 8629 wheel bearing hub removal tool? The metal bar you nut onto the hub and give it one good wack with a sledge hammer and the bearing is out. Awesome tool, only once I've had to hit it twice lol.

Nice work!!! You made quick work of that rusted hulk. It's interesting to see the different techniques from different mechanics from different locations around the country. Being from Arizona, the interior falls apart from sun rot 10,000 years before the chassis even sees any rust. The only moisture we see is from the Polar pop from Circle K evaporating in the cup holder!! I recently installed a dash cam in our Ram 1500 and had to find one that was spec'd to 195 degrees......

Caliper BRACKETS!!! That's the name I couldn't think of while I was on Insty the other day. I called it something stupid that I made up, and Cuba commented on it that she'd never heard that term before, LOL! Man, my brain is FAILING big time!
Ahh, so that must be the tool you mentioned on my Ram hub bearing battle vid many many moons ago! I couldn't get those damned things to move 1mm without half a tank of acetylene and 40 minutes of jackhammering with Big Nasty! What a BATTLE that was! I gotta pick me up a few sets of those (Whenever my funds recover from yet another bank-account-emptying Silverado purchase - fixing the failure prone engine components next ... and adding 120+ RWHP in the process ... 😁)! Thanks yet AGAIN! 👍👍
Good ol' GM - always keeping us employed with their stellar engineering! Looks like they just Scotch taped the magnet on there, lol! 😂
Good to see ya got yerself some powered garage doors! I can't live without mine. This house had one when I first moved in - now I've got 3. No wonder I'm getting so fat! Garage door openers and a lift (Plus the wifey's cookin') add several pounds to the ol' belly. 😆

I replaced my brake rotors and pads front and back a couple weeks ago on my 2012 GMC Acadia and the I guess the banging on the right rear rotor buggered up the wheel sensor like this one and the traction control and anti lock lights came on also stabilize control came on as well. Fortunately there was no loss of power but it would make a clunking sound coming from the front are I guess while it was self diagnosing itself but would stop after I drove for a minute or so and would then set the trac control and anti lock lights off on the dash.

I was almost in tears trying to beat that thing off. I don't remember if I even got it or not. I remember coming back at it the next day. lol Good times.

    34mm axle nut...
I recently decided to increase the capacity of my pneumatic impact hammer choices to my DIY efforts and added a monster IR 3/4" example to the mix. The tool was only a very small part of the necessary air plant upgrades required to feed the new monster.
I added 1/2" quick-disconnects to the three air tanks (two 28 gallon and a 60 gallon). The big quick disconnects allow me to join all the tanks together if tackling an air volume intense project like the 3/4" impact, sand blasting, and/or plasma cutting. I worked up a couple of 1/2" quick-disconnect to four-port manifolds which have 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" sizes on them for any future go-big tool additions.
The new 3/4" tool, a month of parts orders, and installation effort of air plant infrastructure upgrades so the new toy would play... But, boy oh boy does that thing bring the beans!

Hi! I’m having the SAME EXACT issue with my 2015 traverse LTZ. Once I hit 45-55mph the motor will start jumping and acting crazy kinda similar to a misfire with the same service lights on. Was this traverse doing that? I desperately need help resolving this issue! This is my only means of transportation for me and my kids

Just did the rear hub on a 2015 traverse. This was hands down the best video to follow. I didn't have the cool bolts, so I improvised with bolts from the hardware store. The bolts got destroyed, but the hub popped off beautifully.
