- Woodturning - A Piece of Apricot Tree into an Easter Bowl
As part of this project, I tried to turn a piece of apricot tree into an original bowl for Easter eggs. Unfortunately, I did not calculate the depth of immersion of the rods a bit and everything turned out not as I wanted. In future projects, I will take into account my mistakes and do everything right.

Questions from a retired shop teacher. Why did you draw a circle with a compass at first??? You never used it.
Why did you put all those dowels in and then cut them out??? Were you planning to do something else?
The bowl turned out very nice.
I like the way you dished out the bottom and internally chucked into it. I am still shaking my head as to why you drilled all the holes then doweled them. The flange could have just been screwed in. The remaining dowel piece in the centeris agonizing. Almost awesome

I also think the finished product turned out well. I am just getting started with woodturning and was wondering what the purpose of the rods was?
Hey. of the six rods, only the middle remained. there should have been 6 "circles" on the finished bowl. I did not calculate a little with the depth of immersion of the rods and they were grind off.

Did you use a stain, or an oil? I've never seen apricot wood and it finished really nice, with a unique structure.
I used teak oil

Perfect bowl
I liked this bowl, but it could bave a better finish than what you did. More sandi b and better finishing eghods would have yielded a better bowl. Suggest you check out ofher turners on TH-cam to see how they finish their bowls.
Whatever lathe you are using is a non-rigid piece of crap. No wonder your finish was rough.
