U are so fun! When I clicked on this I never in a million years thought you would be recommending One Piece and Willa Cather in the same video. I also loved James. And The Ann P audiobook with Tom Hanks is on my list too. Keep up the good work.
I just finished As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh. It's fabulous. Heartbreaking and gorgeous. It's the kind of book that reminds you of why you love reading so much.
one of your comments on the dutch house reminded me: if fullmetal alchemist hasn't already been recommended, it should go on your manga reading list (which is probably a mile long at this point, but it's a classic)
Great video, so many outstanding reads! I love Ann Patchett; my favorite book of hers is These Precious Days which is a collection of essays, but don’t let that put you off. You will stop several times to reread some passages because the writing is so ethereal. You will discover another Tom Hanks connection in this book. My two favorite 2024 novels so far are James and Long Island.
One of my favorite reads was a shortish book titled A Different Drummer by William Kelley. It was published in 1964 and largely forgotten until recently. It is about a southern town in a made up Southern state where in all the black people suddenly pack up and start leaving the area and this affects others. Fantastic!
❤📚❤️ Great reviews, you really describe well and in a very excited manner. Burial Rites is definitely a favorite. I also enjoyed Endurance Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lancing, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles and Middlemarch by George Eliot. I added My Antonia and James to my list. I own The Dutch House, I just need to pick it up!
Thank you, Starla! I appreciate your comments so much! A Gentleman in Moscow is on my mental TBR. Middlemarch is so lovely and layered. My mom loved Endurance. I ought to get to it soon.
@Shellyish I'm reading Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens now and loving it. Endurance is one of those books that has you Googling the story and looking at photos. 😊
I read Katherine when I was 14 or 15 and I loved it so much. It really influenced my love of medieval history. Now, many years later, I got it on Kindle and am curious to see how my thoughts may have changed. Thanks for mentioning it.
Okay, so I loved In Memoriam and James, what's going on?!?!? I hated My Antonia so there's something that's on form, but are our tastes changing? Are they converging?!!?
Hannah Kent has also eritten a book called The Good People. The Good People is based on true events in 19th century Ireland. I hoping to read it this month.
Thank you for the recommendations! I also loved The Dutch House and Perfume! I would like to recommend Paulette Jiles, especially News of the World! Hope you check it out.
I think The Dutch House will stick with you and wind up on a top 10.🎉 it has stuck with me for a few years now. My favs of the year so far: Daniel Deronda, a short story called The Snow Storm by Alexander Pushkin, and March by G. Brooks.
I have discovered A British writer who writes fabulous fiction. Hard to find all of her books, but Amazon has most. Her name is Clarev Chambers. Oxford educated.
Oh my! I didn’t edit the book cover of James by Percival Everett correctly and it only flashed rather than lingering on the screen. Oops!

I'm reading Burial Rites now. I visited Iceland last January and wanted to read some books from there!!
How are you liking it??
Thank you! I really needed this pod cast in my life!
I’m so glad!

Added to my TBR.
Hi Shelly, Ann Patchett's Tom Lake has stuck with me the most so far this year.
Good to know! Thank you, Nathan!
U have excellent taste. I love that book so much.

Oooh, I need to pick up The Glutton! I've heard a couple of people talk highly about it and trippy books have been working for me lately!
It’s a weird one!!!!
I read Katherine when I was 14 or 15 and I loved it so much. It really influenced my love of medieval history. Now, many years later, I got it on Kindle and am curious to see how my thoughts may have changed. Thanks for mentioning it.
Wonderful!
Shelly, Caste has really stuck with me too. My favourite reads so far this year are James and A Suitable Boy. Happy reading!
A Suitable Boy is still on my TBR
Okay, so I loved In Memoriam and James, what's going on?!?!? I hated My Antonia so there's something that's on form, but are our tastes changing? Are they converging?!!?
I think we enjoy contemporary historical fiction, maybe?!
Hannah Kent has also eritten a book called The Good People. The Good People is based on true events in 19th century Ireland. I hoping to read it this month.
Awe! Thank you!!!
@@Shellyish oh my goodness... I just reread my comment. I seriously need to slow down and proofread before hitting send🤦♀️
Hi, Shelly greetings from Glasgow Scotland 🏴
Hello there!
Thank you for the recommendations! I also loved The Dutch House and Perfume! I would like to recommend Paulette Jiles, especially News of the World! Hope you check it out.
Definitely looking into Jiles! Thank you.
Lovely video as usual. Spy Family is excellent!
The best!
I read After the Romanovs recently! It was really well done but I wish I had had more background before starting. Caste was also an amazing read!
Yes! The Romanovs made me want to read more about the time period.
It’s so true that so many books cannot land the ending. 🤔
Why is that, David?
@@Shellyish it’s a good question but I don’t know. Maybe something like _Middlemarch_ is the outlier? (You’ve read more than I! 😂)
@@davidnovakreadspoetry no way! I’m sure you’ve read loads more than me!
@@Shellyish We may never know! 🤪
I read happy place by Emily Henry when I was on vacation it was brilliant
Wonderful!
Yassssss That "No. 1 Book" 🎉🎉🎉
So gooooooooood!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I think The Dutch House will stick with you and wind up on a top 10.🎉 it has stuck with me for a few years now.
My favs of the year so far: Daniel Deronda, a short story called The Snow Storm by Alexander Pushkin, and March by G. Brooks.
I was literally going on and on with my husband about how great The Dutch House was. :)
I have discovered A British writer who writes fabulous fiction. Hard to find all of her books, but Amazon has most. Her name is Clarev Chambers. Oxford educated.
Oh! Thank you!!!
Have you read The 3 Body Problem series?
I have not.
I understand the colloquialism is “sticks the landing”.
Oh! Thank you!!!
I'm seeing the dutch house every where. I've yet to find a version in my language
I hope you find it!
Highly recommend you listen to Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. So Good!!!
I’ll get on it! Thank you!!
@Shellyish it's narrated by Meryl Streep and she does it so fantastic!!!
New hair style! Cute, cute!🥰 it’s getting long again!♥️
I tried something different and I’m not sure how much I like it. 🫣
@@Shellyish you look great in every style I’ve seen you in!
Whats happened with your one piece videos? Are you still reading it?
i just realized that you have the same name as my pet turtle
Ha! How wonderful!
