The move needed a nerf. It wasn't just a "good move" it was broken. Possible contender for best move in the game. I'll list all the attributes and you can try to find another move this oppressive. It's a projectile that he can aim at will and have an active hitbox when he wants it. So you have to guess when to dodge. It applies weakened stacks for some reason. A projectile that beats all other projectiles by breaking them (only thing that can break rocket I'm pretty sure). Leads to kill confirm. Hits people on the ground and at jump height. He could dodge immediately after. It's hard enough to play neutral against a projectile but he was pretty much unpunishable after using it. It interacts with his grenades. And on top of all of these properties it had no cool down. It needed a nerf... I agree his grenades are not what they used to be but his jab, down air, up air, and side air all have good hitboxes. He has good moves. Learn how to actually win neutral instead of getting bailed out by a busted projectile.
@tb3099 Jab is super inconsistent(especially whip), up air basically relies on rock, down air is there, and side air barley kills and is a combo starter that leads into his projectiles. All of those moves use rock or snake, and nades to extend combos. Snake shot used to extend, start, and kill. Nade is his only way of map control and his only other way of killing. The way to make Morty less projectile dependent is to make his normals more consistent and / or kill moves because his thoes moves are his projectiles

There's no cool down because your basically stuck in that move till the scream animation is done. So if you miss the spike and they're right on top of you, you're getting punished (looking at you pesky Black Adams). It's not good up close despite being able to bring it towards you, so people who rush you constantly make you whiff. Sure it interacted with grenades, but we had to make that useful, because the scream animation lasts too long to jump and side air the grenades toward the opponent, hence why we just fire ring them upwards first. That whole window you can punish Morty. No, his jabs do not have good hotboxes. All the sword characters (Arya,WW, Fin) can hit you with the wind from the tip of their blade, as well as black Adams, and Superman's fist, iron giants car, and, a few others. Whereas Morty has a little glow effect in front of his front jab, yet can't land the jab unless his fist is literally inside his opponent. It's literally a light visual in front of his fist my guy. I'm gonna level with you, Morty's are only so good because people love him even though he isnt good. So they learned to get max use out of what is overall, a tedious to use character. Your last comment about "learn how to win neutral" is silly, see aforementioned lack of up air response. I play with Morty one of the low tier characters. The irony of telling me to get good when you can't get past the one move in his kit that is actually reasonably consistent in its job - getting you in the air- is laughable.
Tbh as a Morty main, I kinda think these changes to the mud wall were necessary. The only thing They shouldn't have done is getting rid of the hurtboxes on the grenades after you split them. It was honestly REALLY annoying to fight Morty's that would just run away from you and only use Mud wall, up air and pretty much nothing else the whole game and win easily with since mud walls applies weakened and the combo is an easy kill confirm. And as annoying as the smaller hitbox on the mud wall is, it makes sense since you shouldn't have a hitbox bigger than any attack anyway. To the people saying "Morty is ruined" no he's not, he just takes more skill to play now. Once people get used to the changes I'm certain people will finally stop complaining about the Morty nerfs. The mud wall is so predictable; you just need to dodge in, hit combo, and Morty is dead. He really lacks kill confirms; you get a window from 90 to 120 HP to kill, and that's all. You have two kill confirm grenades (which got nerfed) and mud wall up air that also got nerfed. Plus, with the whip issue, Morty is really struggling to kill even more than before, and nades literally despawn from all WW shields now. Let's be honest, Morty got nerfed too hard without any buffs, and people are still complaining about this character being too OP just because they never learn anything in this game.
People are overreacting about these nerfs. Grenade split still works exceptionally well, but you can’t use on highly damaged opponents anymore. You can still flawlessly combo into it, and you can use it better in a 2v2 scenario.
I've tried the 'buff' for Jake, but it seems like nothing really changed. Yeah, he got some speed for the down tilt, but he's still struggling. He's too slow for every move he makes. Maybe I'm missing something?
so I ll say the whip just has a bad Dead zone which is why Shaggy is not getting hit by it. But its more so made to give you a confirm from your jab from at a decent range away to confirm into the whip (or maybe even your jab from MAX range) Play with it more and if its 100% true from a set distance regardless of D.I then i hope you find ore uses for it while playing neutral

I am not a Morty player But I play a lot of Zoners in games and and set play/set up characters I personally feel you should experiment More with Mud wall set ups Like (after a Kill confirm you would still have time for both grenades before they explode on their own. You can bounce them around to prepare for them coming back in and set up some nice early snipes with your gun as well. Its just my POV I dont wanna come off rude or a know it all. I just think we should give it more time (sure i agree giving the grenades active hit box from mud wall is good but i think what we got right now is also not bad.
