      I think Emma would still win. She has better striking, speed and strategy than Leylah. She is a better all around player than Leylah but fitness going deep needs fine tuning. I think Leylah is doing well. As the author said, everyone just had too high of expectations. I was truly impressed with her performance at Cinci Open this year where she lost the 1/4-final to Pegula 5:7, 7:6, 6:7 AND on the same day just a few hours later she managed to win the 1/2-final in doubles after such a long tough singles match. In between, she was hitting under shower rain on the practice court. It is not like she's dropped outside of top 100... My girls were super happy to take a photo with her.

    Your comments about Emma calling for a timeout are misleading though I'm sure you never actually meant to mislead. Emma drew the umpires attention to the bleeding and the umpire, as you must know, took the decision to have the medical timeout. Leylah has always been around keeping herself in the top 40 for the past 3 years. She just hasn't performed well in slams lately except for French Open 2022. I say her best bet at winning a slam is the French Open because I think she's most comfortable on clay. I also think she can make a run at Wimbledon. Her game can suit grass so well, but I don't think she (or her coaching staff) quite realize it.

    Well, Leylah has the biggest lucky ever not being former USO champ... Leylah finshed number 31 in the world this year. As for the 2021 final, Leylah argued with the Umpire, wagged her finger at the Match Referee and tried to upstage Emma with 'just one final thing'. Never apologised, far too gassed-up. Emma has a result of 2-0 on grass, 2-0 on hard. Leylah is a fighter who never checks out but new players are coming through all the time. You're right about the serve but she chooses to keep the Team Fernandez thing with dad as decision maker. But, as you say he played soccer not tennis.

      Leylah always does that obnoxious act because she thinks that makes her tough. She did it to Qinwen in China and proceeded to get bageled. Girl needs to focus on her game, which has not had anything new since her US Open dream run, and the rest of the WTA Top 20 have clocked how to beat her.

  • @eyeofthetiger6002
    @eyeofthetiger6002 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I'm afraid her failure to see it out against Emma in 2021 has had a big psychological effect deep down on Leylah whether she likes to admit it or not because the competition has just got a whole lot tougher since 2021 not least because Emma's finally beginning to approach her 2021 form as her recent performances in the BJK Cup showed by winning all three of her matches as well as shooting up the rankings from 301 at the beginning of the year to 57 now despite playing so few tournaments whereas Leylah unfortunately seemed to have regress going out easily in straight sets to Boulter. Now, with the renowned fitness coach Nakamura accompanying her and her injuries seemingly behind her it can't be long now before Emma wins her first title since 2021 and one couldn't rule out completely either of her winning her second Slam,most likely at Wimbledon next.

    Emma's first bright idea after winning the US Open was to fire her coach. Then get distracted with everything but tennis. Leylah will have a tough time. Her coaching team is inadequate and inexperienced compared to her competitors. Unfortunately, her size and height are a disadvantage. It limits her coverage, reach, power and serve. She's going up against stronger and faster Sabalenka, Gauff, Sakari, Paula, Iga, Rybakina, Pegula, Navarro, Collins, et al. All of those can easily pick off her serve. The year Emma and Leylah placed was an unusual Covid year where the draws opened up. That won't happen again.

      This coming Aussie swing will see a fit Emma Raducanu with a good strong team behind her and they have learned lessons from previous years. She has made enough money that she doesn't need to rush getting her match fitness/endurance, like many other players would. There are so many ranking points available for her and she's defending very few now. Last year I felt a bit wary of how she may perform but it feels a different ball game now.

    Although I love both the men's and women's game, over the past 20+ year the seeded players on the men's side are just much more consistant, there is no way that a qually could come through and win 10 straight to win a slam, it would just never happen. On the women's side general if you go back historically you will see on average more seeded players drop in the early rounds. It's kind of interesting and exciting in it's own right as you can see lower ranked players have a chance, and you see more breaks of server on the womens side in general.

    Leylah will never been a top player, too small, too weak, her style of game can't compete with the powerhouses that are now dominating the WTA. Her height isn't a problem but her weight could be. The reality is if she's not able to hit winners at will from behind the baseline and her serve is a non factor, she's not going to see any real progress. Her counterpunching style also holds her back. There are times especially volleying from the net, she just puts the ball back into play when she is given the opportunity to put the ball away.

    Just one thing: Emma didn't call the timeout -- the umpire did. It too ruined her momentum and she didn't want that to happen. But those are the rules.
    Correct me if I'm wrong -- it was three years ago?
    And I'm going to say it, Emma's future is brighter than Leylah's, in my opinion. Her overall game is better and she has had some good results this year and is top 60 despite playing in only half the tournaments a typical WTA player does. I can see her winning Wimbledon when (or if) she sorts out all of her problems.

    • @hertor8803

      Yeah I know. They're rewriting history here. She had blood running down her leg and wanted to carry on. Why the need to justify Leylahs reaction by casting any shade on Emma? Also I watched that match and at no time did I ever really feel Leylah was going to win. Emma had twice as many break points and was powering her off the court just like she did to everyone else that tournament. They both had a fantastic tournament and I've been impressed by Leylahs progress. I actually think it's been a blessing in disguise losing that final as she's been able to work on her game out of the spotlight. Radacanu has had no such luxury and yet she needs time to develop her game just as much as Leylah does. I think Raducanu has a higher ceiling than Leylah but whether that ever actually materialises is another question.

I believe Roger Federer even got a nose job, but it was not too much. Leylah did, Bibi had more plastic surgery than she had wins. I was watching Belinda Bencic's match, and noticed she got a noses job, then V. Kudermentova. The list is long. Male players too. Stefanso, had one as well as Maria Sakkari. Leylah is such a gassed up player. Confidence is a necessary ingredient but there has to be realism too. Her father & coach is a journeyman soccer player who should be responsible for her motivation/fitness and conditioning perhaps but not her coaching because she is taller than Ash Barty, Jasmine Paulini but has not improved since 2021. But from listening to Leylah, she can't break the habit of this father daughter partnership and I doubt her dad wants that too. So' she will stay there short of any big weapons.
