    I'm so invested in so many of these horses this time. Hoping for the best for poor Calico. More hopeful for good outcomes for Halo and the pony with the turned under front foot than I was when I saw them at the auction assessment. Was just watching some back episodes and noticed that while female staff are wearing protection while taking X-rays, none of the men are wearing protection. There have been studies that show a reduced level and motility of sperm caused by x-ray, also being frequently near it has been shown in some cases to be the suspected cause of infertility, studies are ongoing . Just thought I’d mention it in case any of the men want to be fathers in the future, like women they need to protect their reproductive organs. 🥰 Love seeing all the work you do to save the animals❤️🙋🏼‍♀️

    How sad for Calico! Who takes a 3 yo to auction??!!! Did they even try and sell her before this deadly decision?? If Calico survives, I'd be willing to support her care, even tho, she may end up as a pasture pet. TN needs to push for stricter animal rights! Get rid of the BYB (backyard breeders) and license all pets,

    Back in the 1970's we bought our first horse. She was a short Appaloosa. (Or so they claimed). She developed an abscess in one of her teeth. It just happened to be in the very same place as your mare. The vet we had way back then went through her face and she had the same kind of wound. It was horrible and my father would not spend any more money on her so she ended up living with it until she "soured" a couple of years later. I was a young teenager and had my own horse at the time who we raised from about 8 months old. I am pretty sure that Wildfire went to the glue factory. It still hurts me to know she suffered so much and died that way.

      My Mom grew up on a poor dairy farm in Oklahoma. She’s such a empathetic person that it was very hard. So many animals go without vet care and die miserably because they’re not considered worth the money. Even my Mom went without medical care. She broke her collarbone when she fell down the cellar stairs and got nothing. It still pains her at 83.
      It’s horrible how people can be to animals and children.

    I worked on a horse breeding farm and an owner was sending his mare to a Stallion in NY and our farm was in Northern N J - the driver did not put the breast plate up and the mare turned herself around and put a hind leg through a hole in the trailers floor and they weren't even out of the drive way - so we spent 3 hrs in the washstall in the middle of February sewing her banana peeled leg back up - it took her3 months to recover

    • @Standardbredwoman04

      My Father never bred the mares back to back. He always gave his mares 2 years if someone wanted to breed to Monsoon they had to prove the mare had a year between foals. He wanted to keep the line but did not want to over breed.

    Hoping with all my heart that Calico is able to heal. My gelding had a foot go through a trailer, slashing his foreleg from the front of his knee to the top of his fetlock.
    He was lucky in that no joint had been exposed, as is Calico's, and there was enough skin to stitch up the area. To protect him from chewing at the stitches, a plaster cast was put over the area, but a nice stick from a branch was great for reaching itchy stitches, LOL, and he loved me for it.
    I know you will do all you can to help her. Watching her walk with a wince with each step just hurts my heart.
    All my love to you guys and a hug to Calico!

    Lovely on the broken tooth - I bet that smelt so awesome - blerch - nothing prepares you for THAT smell does it? Well done Dr Lydia and crew. Heres hoping she heals up nicely and becomes a beautiful adoptable horse with no long standing issues from it.
    Kory - with so many folk watching and watching you train the horses - I know they only see small bits and pieces of what you do, not the entire lesson, but I do think that folk get a lot out of you explaining what you do and why you are doing it. You see too many people just working on a horse but failing to explain why. Good french braid :D
    Kimberley - I love how you run through things with the prospective adopters. Your knowledge of all the horses and ability to just reel off the info like you do is awesome.
    Sara and the filming/production team - you put the videos together beautifully - thankyou so much for that.
    Dr Lydia and the entire team - OMG the poor mare that came through the floor of the trailer - I think I commented on her elsewhere but I hadn't see this initial injury clean up and assessment. Joint fluid is NEVER good to be leaking and skin tissue missing entirely is terrible - have seen that in my time - but not on a joint thankfully - I hope Calico pulls through - infection is going to be her enemy isnt it.
    Anyone I didnt name - I havent excluded you deliberately - I think you are all absolutely wonderful.

I am so glad we have the TÜV checking every vehicle and trailer, otherwise you aren’t allowed to use it. And the ending with a well doing Mama and baby - so sweet! So some stupid human mindset tried to transport horses on an unsafe trailer? Would they do the same with the vehicles they and their family ride in? You ALWAYS test any kind of metal floor for signs of it being unstable. And especially if on a farm where a lot of moisture can get trapped!!! *shaking head* I was taught this at an early age on just a car floor so me or my passengers legs would not go though the jagged metal! *shaking head* If you treat the family pet like this, makes me afraid for how they treat their family members!!!

    Please let us know how the mare went through the trailer floor does. It’s a good lesson to always clean your trailers inside leaving pee and poop in there because you don’t feel like cleaning it out right away will rot out in the floor. It would be a shame If this horse lost her life because someone didn’t keep their equipment up to standard. 💗

    I had a horse that broke a spot on his jaw from pulling back and then hitting his jaw on the side of the trailer when he was owned by someone else. We bought the horse because he was raised by a family of alot of kids and we needed a horse for our kids. The Vet had scraped alot of bone fragments out and drilled a hole for drainage. It drained all right! Saliva and ground up feed, and It was a job to keep the hole as clean as possible. Especially during fly season. It never did get infected, but it sure stunk. The horse never was in any pain and kept plenty of weight on him. One morning when I was feeding, I saw a tooth in the feeder. It was partially broke off at the top. After that tooth came out, the hole actually finally closed up! Sure glad it did. So ya, maybe this experience will give you some insight on what the horses future might be.

    Tincture of Calendula 50/50 with water will close a wound from the bottom up,and leaves minimal scaring. Spray on 2/3 tines a day. Magic.

    How is that lady going to be able to train a horse if she can’t train a small dog ? Money is what matters I guess ? What if there were grants to help loving owners that just can’t afford the expense of their pets and in all actuality can love and care just as much or more than well off folks ? I have seen videos that Veterinarians volunteer time and expense to help homeless with their pets and say that they care more for their pets than themselves .

    Raw honey helps for rapid healing and keeps proud flesh at bay. Also there is a surgical additive to close words made out of pig tissue.

      @watchesfromedges 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you've pointed this out. Last week a elderly neglected cat walked into my house, full of fleas and worms, no weight and a scabby face. His blood tests came back positive for FIV so the ulceration on his face will be difficult to heal but I am hopeful that good nutrition and regularly washing his face with cooled, boiled salted water with raw wildflower honey dissolved in it will help him recover.

    • @XxShellyW13xX
      @XxShellyW13xX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Powdered Alum is also great for preventing proud flesh from even starting. It's actually a ground spice that's used for making pickles and gives you that puckering feeling in your mouth when eating pickles. I've had great success with it in all kinds of wounds including joints. I've also heard of using super glue to bring torn tissue back together when you can't get a vet right away and the injury needs to be sown immediately. It actually worked and the wound healed wonderfully. Personally I didn't think that it would work and shocked that it did such a super job healing the wound.

    I hope that mini will be able to have a shoe or brace to help support that foot and keep her from hurting it. She's figured out how to walk in a way that works for her, but I have to imagine if she keeps doing that it's going to cause other issues.

    • @XxShellyW13xX
      @XxShellyW13xX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would figure that a farrier would be able to create a special shoe for that sweet little mare. I think if the farrier could create a shoe with an elongated front, say about 6" or so sticking out from the center of the hoof, I think she'd still be able to walk properly without tripping on the elongated part. That's the only thing I can think of that would work for her to keep her from knuckling over onto her fetlock. I hope someone understands what I just wrote.

    When you blast antibiotics (like you had to with the roan mare) do you also give probiotics to support her gut health? (I always need double probiotics when on antibiotics, otherwise I’m hurting and eventually…yeasty blech)

    • @XxShellyW13xX
      @XxShellyW13xX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always have to eat yogurt while taking antibiotics because it kills both the good bacteria and the bad bacteria in your gut. I always end up with diarrhea, yogurt is awesome because it contains the live cultures that you need.

    My biggest regret was having to rehome my horse and ponies when my degenerative spine condition got too bad for me to look after them. I kept them for over a year just feeding them and taking care of them but it got too much. My friend at the yard begged me to let her have them which I agreed to. She moved them closer to where she lived but I had an invitation to go and visit them anytime I wanted. I found I couldn’t do it as it upset me and disrupted them especially my mare who was my soul mate! Sadly my friend suddenly died (age 42) and I had no control over what happened to the horses. I have worried ever since what has happened to them. I wish I had tried to get them into rescue in the first place - which was my original plan just so they wouldn’t end up in the meat market. 😢😢😢😢

      Hi Lesley happy Christmas from Jen in Canada. I just watched this episode for the first time and I noticed your message is all lonely down here near the bottom of comments so I just wanted to reach out and give you a virtual hug today!
      Thank you for sharing your story, I bet a lot of people have read it and felt sympathy for you and your sweet lost babies. If anybody can help you find out how things turned out for them I hope you could learn something good that would ease your anxiety for them.
      And I’m sorry your friend passed away also- I misread that angle initially so I’m just correcting it here on edit.

    Are y’all ever worried that the adopters are not what they seem to be?

    • @Angharadz2
      @Angharadz2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a whole process that is gone through, including checking their home vet and farrier references, as well as social media stuff, and basic ID, of course, before they are even cleared to attend for an adoption appointment - I cant remember which video it was, maybe a year ago? which went through the whole process in detail - it ws prior to an adoption event (in the same video), if that helps you find it

    • @XxShellyW13xX
      @XxShellyW13xX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Angharadz2 they also do background checks on people too to check if they've been involved with any animal abuse cases, but also if they have a mental issue of killing animals (first stage of a psychotic serial killer). Creepy stuff, but very important to make sure that the adoptee is going to treat the animals properly. I believe this was also in that same video that ya'll are talking about.

      The only concern I feel , is that a few of the adopters seem to be too tall and heavy for the horses they are going to ride, unless the horse will be a field companion. Anyone know if this is also taken into consideration?

  • @oliviaantonia7970
