    Last week I was eating Costco croissants exclusively for breakfast so I'm not feeling too good. We got them because our son loves croissants and they're a texture he really enjoys lately. However, I am trying to get back on track! Yesterday I had ezekiel bread with peanut butter and banana and today I had teff granola with soymilk and blueberries. I believe in the breakfast hype!

      OMG, Maya! I remember those Costco croissants really well...I should have bought stock in them for as many as we ate too. And clearly your little boy has good taste which is always a good thing! My best trick at the time was freezing them, making a little slit in the middle and sliding in a Dove dark chocolate before reheating for a personal Parisian pain au chocolat! Ah well, we all have to start somewhere and it's never a bad thing to enjoy something from the other side of the mountain once in a while! Nice to hear from you, Maya! Thanks for sharing your little story so that I could reminisce about mine. Cheers, Caroline

    Caroline, I am at such a disadvantage right now. I am binge watching your videos and am so glad I found you!!!! My husband and I can so enjoy and benefit from this way of eating. However, I am awaiting a hip replacement and am in great pain and cannot spend time in the kitchen chopping and preparing what I need to. Putting it all on my husband seems unfair, but I am creating a "new" grocery list for him based on your principles. It's a little overwhelming right now, but we can do it! I love your spirit, and just wait til I am healed!!😀

      Hi Sharon! And great for you… one of my sisters had a hip replacement last year and so I understand how difficult the recovery process can be. Thank goodness your husband is there to give you a hand. Hey, and it’s better to be binge watching than binge eating, right?? ha ha ha. Maybe you and your hubby can set up a little chopping board for you sitting down and he can do the standing up stuff. All my very best to you. Congratulations on your dedication to a healthy road ahead! Cheers, Caroline

    TWO BREAKFASTS?! 😃 I love it!!! This video made my day! ❤ I’ve been trying intermittent fasting, but it just doesn’t work for me. My eating window has been 11am-5pm. I hate it. I haven’t lost any more than the initial water weight. I have lost my ability to focus. Breakfast is my favorite meal! Your ideas are amazing and your videos are absolutely beautiful 🤩 My heritage is from the Azores and I grew up on Mediterranean food. It’s comfort food for me. Thank you for your wonderful work Caroline!!! ❤❤❤

      Thanks, Tink! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. I’ve heard that intermittent fasting is pretty popular but I just stick to what I know… healthy balanced meals. That photo I show where the caption says it was our mid-morning breakfast really was last week. And we go there at least 2 times a week since it is at the base of our city apartment. I like the 2-breakfast idea because I can have a little something to get started working early and then around 10:30-11, when I need a mental break, we head down to the cafe and have our second breakfast for a 30 minute break. It is pretty much standard for people here…everybody stops at 10:30 for 30 minutes, has a little something and it helps tide them over until our normal lunch time at 2pm. Thanks again for the positivity. it really helps me when I know what I’m doing is helping. Cheers, Caroline

    What do you say to people that may eat a lot of the whole green options like oatmeal with no refined sugars or the whole-grain toast with some protein or fat but still get hungry an hour or two later? Because that is my dilemma. I usually have to have a large amount of protein and fat like a veggie omelette and avocado to truly feel like it’s not messing with my blood sugar. As well, my biggest issue is not giving into eating a bowl of cereal immediately the second, I wake up with my four-year-old and she’s demanding food :-) we don’t eat the most horrible stuff, but also not 100% whole grain. It’s usually quaker oats squares and or Cheerios and great grains cereal.

    • @mediterraneanminutes
      @mediterraneanminutes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Beah and thanks for the great questions. It’s great that you are going for whole grains in the morning, You’ve got the right idea. Just remember to try to keep it balanced with both protein and healthy fats too. Some others have addressed this same issue and I would suggest that if you can get in a balance of at least 20 grams of protein, eight to 10 grams of fiber and 10 to 15 grams of unsaturated fats, totaling about 300 to 350 calories, this might work best to keep you feeling fuller longer. As I recall, Cherrios are a good packaged cereal option as are unsweetened shredded wheat but watch out for the Quaker Oat Squares…I know them well, used to eat them all the time when I was younger. Just read the back, the amount of added sugars is pretty insane! Best of luck, it sounds like you are really focused on eating healthier and that’s what counts. Cheers, Caroline

    I need to try the 2 breakfast plan. My workday is kind of set up for that I just am never sure how to do it without overeating. I leave for work at 6:20am, get a 15 minute break around 8, and usually eat lunch at 11am! I need food before work, but if I eat a bigger breakfast I can't eat on my break because I am too full and uncomfortable but come lunchtime I am ravenous. If I eat smaller before I leave then save my real breakfast for 8am, I am not hungry for my lunch at 11.

    • @mediterraneanminutes
      @mediterraneanminutes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a challenge for sure. We adjusted to this way of eating pretty quickly when we moved to Spain in part because lunch is not served until 2pm and I can’t make it that long without a little something around 11am but I also need something first thing in the morning to get going mentally. The other challenge is to make sure you don’t eat 2 full breakfasts… just try to balance the 2 out with smaller amounts and you would be probably feel full enough. If you wanted to use some measurement sticks, think of the right amount for a breakfast total as at least 20 grams of protein, eight to 10 grams of fiber and 10 to 15 grams of unsaturated fats, totaling about 300 to 350 calories. I’m not a big beleiver in counting numbers, but this might help you with a general guideline. Thanks for joining in the conversation and good luck with it! Cheers, Caroline

      @rorykahneisenberg5299 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mediterraneanminutes Thanks for the guidelines. I think I'm going to shoot for whole grain toast/nut butter/sliced banana for my 1st/wakeup meal, then do a hardboiled egg as my 2nd/snack meal. I would love 2pm lunch! Unfortunately that is out of my control at work.

    Is full fat Greek yogurt, better than nonfat or low-fat Greek yogurt which do you use?

    • @mediterraneanminutes
      @mediterraneanminutes  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Teresa - Either is fine depending on your preference. Because George watches his cholesterol without taking any medications, he has found that eliminating all animal fats has done the trick. Down 60 points and steady. So we now use non-fat yogurt but make sure than the brand doesn't add ANYTHING to it. No sugars, no flavors, no additives. My favorite brand is Fage.

    Hi Caroline,
    I know processed food is not healthy, but isn't sour dough processed?

    • @mediterraneanminutes
      @mediterraneanminutes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Kerry! If you can find whole grain sour dough that is the best option because it will also provide fiber. But check out the nutrition label to see how much added sugars are in it too.As far as processed breads go, it is the breads made with refined (white) flour/grain and added sugars that aren’t so good. The fermented yeast itself that the “sour” comes from is a prebiotic so according to some studies, it is great for your gut.
