Good bore welder, I own one just like it. I prefer the Climax BB-5000 boring setup. But when installing bushings I freeze them in liquid nitrogen and slide them in instead of dragging them in. The nitrogen freeze will draw the bearing down .001 for every 1" in diameter of the bushing.

Mighty fine, I've done pins and bushes after they get wore out more than a few times, but never so bad that we HAD to re-bore, did you ask how much that tooling cost? We used to go across town with a cooler and get dry ice and liquid nitrogen. Really not that exotic, put the bushes in to freeze for a couple hours then hey press-to. Cooler insulation gets eaten up by the cold, looks like it was burnt, doesn't seal after. Great video.
Holy Smokes! How did I miss this one? Using a field mounted horizontal mill? (work stationary, tool moves, I guess that's what it is.) to bore over a yoke(?) for bushing replacements. Then uses a bore welder (never heard of one) out in a field in Mississippi! That's some interesting as heck stuff!! Kudos to you and Mr. Lee. Ethan, have you ever heard/seen anyone use liquid nitrogen to shrink a slightly lager pin/bushing then hammer it in place for a field repair such as this one? I guess there are many downsides to that approach, I saw this once on YT it was a pin for a lock gate on a ship channel, and thought how neat is that! However, you get one chance to get it right. Anyway, thanks for posting these.
You can do that. The only problem with making a bushing is you will weaken the housing boss a lot. Seen whole bosses bust because of a bushing. Weld is a part of the boss from now on.

Cybersylo welding it in would be better than just a press fit. How much meat you have left in the old part of the housing is the real deal on how much you can cut out if welding it up isn’t a option. I would say no less than 3/8” (10mm) from the outside of the housing would be safe on most Applications if it’s not a high pressure place like this boom stick would need more like 3/4” 19mm. It really depends though.
Now that is a slick line bore and weld set up, the one I have at work is alot more basic lol.. dam the one this guy has makes me jelious,we can't run ours as fast as this one, I was surprised to see him crank that baby up at that speed.. quality repair on this machine for sure..all done in a day!

Excellent video and a great channel! New subscriber here. I ran a line boring machine for a year or so. It was no where nearly as nice as this one. I did the build up with 7018 stick. And I didn't have those alignment cones to set the boring bar bearing locations. That automatic MIG is pretty awesome. It's without a doubt the nicest setup I've seen.

When replacing isn't a option, and going through all this to fix, a man considers what is happening on the end of the boom. I know those bushings are not easy to replace but before the eye gets eaten up with abuse, it is cheap for the cost to stop and fix. I believe if the job had to be done, I would rent another machine and spare my own from going that far. I don't know the circumstances and ain't making a judgement call on something thousands of miles from my armchair. I have had to have stuff fixed after renting my machine out and it wasn't even close to bad but no grease killed it in no time. Man learns to get a real deposit on stuff and then they have a dog in the fight. I haven't been on a computer for a while but if I remember right, your a mechanic and not a owner operator. Please don't let me offend you as I am just chattering... good luck on this job
It’s hard to see how much they are wore without taking it apart or it breaking I don’t know if you noticed there was a thumb on the bucket and 9/10 on the time the left side is the bad side of the stick. It’s from pulling trees and the like. Thumbs kill the bushings very fast even with fair maintenance on the machine. They put stress on them that they were never designed for.
@@EEJester1586 Hmm, I wasn't aware of that. I have had a fixed thumb and a hydraulic thumb on both or different machines I bought that were considered surplus meaning one the hour clock didn't work and the other didn't have one. It was a crap shoot on both but only paid scrap price for them so couldn't lose a lot. I caught the one in time and the other was made parts. I did see the thumb on the machine. The worst part for me was having a crew so I didn't spend much time on any one thing plus I was the only guy who could run a cable machine which was a real good machine... the name won't come to me. I apologize if I offended as that wasn't my intention at all. Being 72, I more of the nosy neighbor type and get in the way on new stuff
That inside welding tool on the aliament blocks will give you near perfect results for production but it seems to take some knowledge away from welder.
It is very rare to see two associates working so productive and non-stop with a common thought in repair.

That's right GMAW. or Mig. Its the only process that is clean enough to weld over itself without have to stop and clean.

Why does the engine load up at 19:24? Couldn’t see a change of load e.g welding
That was the truck. It would be hard to say why revved up. The PTO on the truck runs the air and the hydraulics for the crane.

what grade of wire did you use for welding?
It’s the same thing as ER-70-6 but it’s more flexible I don’t remember the number. It’s made just for bore welding.
