  • Daniel Komen is one of the most interesting distance runners in history: he has some of the most impressive Personal Bests from 1,500 meters up to the 5000 meters, but he only performed to the best of his ability between 1996 to 1998.
To this day, he still holds the world record for the 3000 meters (indoors and outdoors) and the 2 mile.
He is the only athlete in history to have run a 2 mile race in under 8 minutes. Yes, 2 miles, in a row, under 4 minutes each.
    Thanks for watching!
    Enjoy!

I remember him as a kid when I first started running in 1996. The battles between him and Haile Gebrselassie were epic. They should make a 'Legends of Running' video game where you could play as runners like El Guerrouj, Ngeny, Komen, Gebrselassie etc. It would be a great tribute. Those were the best times (late 1990s) to be a fan and to witness all distance running world records broken. :)

Those that I know are Hicham El Guerrouj, Bernard Lagat, Said Aouita, Ali-Said Sief and Daniel Komen himself. This is truly an amazing achievement, it's hard to imagine pulling it off anytime soon.
