The graphical jump from FFVII to FFVIII is pretty amazing. Not an obvious choice but it’s really impressive to see how much they were able to improve within the same console.
8 really was a big jump. Almost too big for the PlayStation to handle. The jump between 7 and 8 are seen more clearly on PC than console, thanks to the higher output resolution.
This. FF8 was my first entry to the series and when I looked how FF7 and the rest looks I was surprised by the difference at that time. Legend of Dragoon was close to 7.
Velvet Crowe finally a comment about this game. I was amazed on how the glacier engine was able to make the levels look beautiful as fuck. One of my top favorites as well

To me it was four games personally that made me go wow 1. Battlefield Bad Company 2 2. GTA 4 3. Far Cry 3 4. Uncharted 2 : Honour Amongst Thieves It still feels like yesterday, I played those games 😌
I replayed FC2 recently and it added a level of intensity and anxiety I never knew could exist in a shooter game. I have played hundreds of shooters at this point and yet playing FC2 got my heart going. There is moments and mechanics in the game I had a strong distaste towards, like driving 30m away from an outpost and going back and all the enemies are back already, but it is a solid good game. I would love a graphical rework of that game.
Fallout 3's graphics were really put on display when you exit Vault 101. It was one thing to see the tiny vault interior, but seeing the wasteland for the first time really sold the graphical power of the time.

to me the jump from Halo Combat Evolved to Halo 2 was amazing, being that it was the same console and a relatively small window of time. Just showed off how you can go from spray paint grass to well designed forests and cities.
Serious Sam 1 to Serious Sam 2 and Serious Sam 2 to Serious Sam 3 was a great graphical jump. Serious Sam always had one of the best graphics of that year when it came out.

Assassins creed 4 - Assassin’s Creed unity. Although unity was widely received as a half baked game. You can’t deny that graphics wise, it’s still the best looking game.
They're taking it slow. They basically want to do like really old games first and then a sequel. Next video about this will probably be previous gen to this gen. We'll see something like BF3 to BF1 or Witcher 2 to Witcher 3.
Far Cry 1 to Far Cry 2, the graphical jump is amazing! Far Cry 2 is just an amazing piece of technology to this day, amazing big open world with detail enviroment, very well optimized and it all came on a 4.5 Gb DVD.
@@norbertsoltesz1012 the textures are very much improved from City to Knight. You can really see the detail on the character models and the entire of Gotham more in Knight. Especially how the rain really changes the environment

Yo, have you seen Dark Souls vs Dark Souls 2? Stepping out into Majula for the first time in DS2 really hits you with how much better the game looks than DS1.
Metal Gear Solid 2 to 3. MGS 2 was a looker and still looks great to this day. 3 however really took things up a lot of levels. I don’t know Kojima and his team was able to push the PS2 beyond its limits and still have a fully functional game is beyond me. The amount of detail in the game is staggering. I remember being absolutely blown away when I saw that the grass was actually modeled and textured. It wasn’t that terrible pixelated 2D grass a lot of games used during that time. Kojima and Team were technical wizards when it came to the PS2.
I know this isn't a fair comparison. But the GFX jump that left a lasting expression to me was from Super Mario World to Mario 64. I still remember play M64 for the first time at a store that had imported the N64 before it was available in the US. While I was playing at the store, my uncle told me, "will you shut your mouth already". I was that blown away.
Diablo 2 vs 3. That was a good jump graphically. It kept the feel but upgraded so much and even kept the randomization of areas outside of cities/towns

elite first encounters to elite dangerous. it was a 20 year gab between games but still, playing elite back in the 80s and 90s then playing elite dangerous in VR today with how complex pc flight sticks have gotten, no way anyone could have even dreamed of that jump back then.
I remember installing Doom II, via DOS prompt, on a shitty Windows 2000 ME Computer that only had 256 MB of RAM a 4 GB HDD, No Graphics Card, and the CPU: Pentium 3. Also had the Shareware version of DOOM (Episode 1 only) installed on it prior. They really were the 2 games you could install on any computer and just expect it to run as it was intended.

After watching the segment in this video that featured Doom, I am thinking maybe it is time to do a comparison video that matches up PC titles to their console ports. A difference that was more noticeable with older generation titles.
I remember getting battlefield 3 and not really having looked at trailers or anything alike, and i was blown away by how amazing it looked on the PS3, really one of the wildest moment I've had on any console, weirdest feeling, looking now it still looks pretty good for what it is, but back then id never really experience a high end pc and thought this was the best things would ever get haha
Red Faction 2 to Guerrilla, especially taking into account the destructible environments. Just Cause 2 to 3 also comes to mind. One that had me stunned was Fight Night Round 3 to Round 4 (BTW we need a new Fight Night game)
I'd say Halo 2 to Halo 3 blew my mind. Also, Gears 1 to Gears 2 destroyed my brain. Because I remember thinking that Gears 1 graphics would never be beat. Then Gears 2 came out. That was insane.

And their setting universe were also different gow 1,2,3 were based on Greek mythology were as the last god of war was more or less based on Norse mythology, but for graphic comparison it does not matter. Also between gow3 and gow , gow ascension was also released whose graphics were really impressive...
Super Mario Bros. 3 to Super Mario World was a major upgrade. Yes it was on to SNES, and not the NES, but still it was amazing as a child to see and play. Super Mario World is still my all time favorite game

Well I got the complete edition off of eBay after Origin stopped offering it (didn’t even realize it was a thing before I looked into getting it) and I had those weird shadow box issues, but so did literally everyone else, including people who got it legitimately
The jump from ac 1 to ac 2. That was HUGE. From tweaks to the parkour mechanics to having a somewhat improved “stealth” to just overall graphic design. To this day I still am amazed that ac 2 came out in 2009 and had skies that moved and had shadows casting in more real world way. Another game comes to mind was prototype 1 to prototype 2. The first game don’t get wrong is graphic good but at the time it has limits due to how much chaos you’re able to do in a scale of the island of Manhattan. But the fact that radical still had gore effects to the first game was amazing and satisfying. The second game however...it was amazing. Graphically wise. The story while disappointing and had some loose ends to what radical had in mind, the game coming out in 2012 it was just amazing on how well the various weapons the character you play as had to much detail. From having shiny effects to have it glow and as how the enemies are fantastically modeled and had rag doll physics. The combat style was much improved as you can counter block and do combos with your shapeshifting abilities. The second game was fantastic on the graphic and gameplay side of the game itself. The story however was really disappointing. I liked the idea of having a new character like Alex but they sorta ruined it by leaving out major major plot holes and not to mention PARIAH. The franchise had so much potential...
No More Heroes to No More Heroes 2 was a really nice jump in graphical quality for sure imo. Super stylized like the original but just much better looking in pretty much every aspect.

God of War 1 and 2 was one of the main reasons for keeping my PS2 👍
God Of War 1 was the reason I got a PS2 and GoW2 just made clear me going with Sony down the line.
Starcraft Brood War to Starcraft II was HUGE.
Also MGS 4 to 5 was a pretty big jump for two games that came out in the same console generation.
The Bioshock series is beautiful and had great updates, especially to lighting

Who remembers playing Doom 2 on a school computer?
I'm a bit older so it was Oregon Trail, cannon fight or something, Battle Chess, and some golf game.
I remember installing Doom II, via DOS prompt, on a shitty Windows 2000 ME Computer that only had 256 MB of RAM a 4 GB HDD, No Graphics Card, and the CPU: Pentium 3. Also had the Shareware version of DOOM (Episode 1 only) installed on it prior. They really were the 2 games you could install on any computer and just expect it to run as it was intended.
I'd already graduated before Doom became a thing. Long before. I do remember playing Doom (and Doom 2) when they came out, though.
@@EmilyRose900 We didn't have Cannon Fight, but instead Artillery. But yeah, Oregon Trail, Artillery, and Mean 18 Golf. Not Battle Chess, since it didn't get ported over to PC or Apple II until I graduated.

After watching the segment in this video that featured Doom, I am thinking maybe it is time to do a comparison video that matches up PC titles to their console ports. A difference that was more noticeable with older generation titles.

I remember getting battlefield 3 and not really having looked at trailers or anything alike, and i was blown away by how amazing it looked on the PS3, really one of the wildest moment I've had on any console, weirdest feeling, looking now it still looks pretty good for what it is, but back then id never really experience a high end pc and thought this was the best things would ever get haha

Red Faction 2 to Guerrilla, especially taking into account the destructible environments. Just Cause 2 to 3 also comes to mind. One that had me stunned was Fight Night Round 3 to Round 4 (BTW we need a new Fight Night game)

I'd say Halo 2 to Halo 3 blew my mind. Also, Gears 1 to Gears 2 destroyed my brain. Because I remember thinking that Gears 1 graphics would never be beat. Then Gears 2 came out. That was insane.

@@mikael4126 actually what we got on ps4 last year was not officially called GOW4( though it was a sequel). And their setting universe were also different gow 1,2,3 were based on Greek mythology were as the last god of war was more or less based on Norse mythology, but for graphic comparison it does not matter. Also between gow3 and gow , gow ascension was also released whose graphics were really impressive...

Super Mario Bros. 3 to Super Mario World was a major upgrade. Yes it was on to SNES, and not the NES, but still it was amazing as a child to see and play. Super Mario World is still my all time favorite game

The jump from Batman Arkham city to Arkham knight is insane
The jump from ac 1 to ac 2. That was HUGE. From tweaks to the parkour mechanics to having a somewhat improved “stealth” to just overall graphic design. To this day I still am amazed that ac 2 came out in 2009 and had skies that moved and had shadows casting in more real world way. Another game comes to mind was prototype 1 to prototype 2. The first game don’t get wrong is graphic good but at the time it has limits due to how much chaos you’re able to do in a scale of the island of Manhattan. But the fact that radical still had gore effects to the first game was amazing and satisfying. The second game however...it was amazing. Graphically wise. The story while disappointing and had some loose ends to what radical had in mind, the game coming out in 2012 it was just amazing on how well the various weapons the character you play as had to much detail. From having shiny effects to have it glow and as how the enemies are fantastically modeled and had rag doll physics. The combat style was much improved as you can counter block and do combos with your shapeshifting abilities. The second game was fantastic on the graphic and gameplay side of the game itself. The story however was really disappointing. I liked the idea of having a new character like Alex but they sorta ruined it by leaving out major major plot holes and not to mention PARIAH. The franchise had so much potential...

No More Heroes to No More Heroes 2 was a really nice jump in graphical quality for sure imo. Super stylized like the original but just much better looking in pretty much every aspect.
