The freehiker 2 is phenomenal. It's so bouncy. Love it. Much more comfy than the 1st iteration. Love the redesign as well.
Do you think I'd be able to longboard in these? I feel like they'd add a lot of stability.
@@YTwoKay seriously?
Im an avid hiker and I hike in brutal, relentless terrain and the bounce/energy return blew my mind. Typically when hiking down mountains my knees kill, these not only help with that but I literally felt no pain at all on descents. Most comfortable shoes ive ever worn.
It doesn't breathe cause the whole thing is waterproof.

The most proper way to review these shoes is not just unboxing and discussing the manufacturer listed bullet points. These are hikers, continental grips on the bottom of the shoes, GTX option for water and snow proofing…these were designed for trails and hiking with fashion in mind. Feeling them out and their performance on varied outdoor terrains and or different weather should be a requirement to get an actual review of this shoe.
He’s the wrong person to give a proper review of these shoes
I have hiked in the non gore Tex version. It's exactly what you'd think. Basically an ultra boost with thicker midsole, thicker outsole, bigger lugs. It's also less breathable as the fabric is thicker. The continental logo serves only for brand recognition. It's just vulcanized rubber like most other sneakers. They can handle running over jagged rocky surfaces. I would not recommend them in precipitation or mud or extreme temperatures. Good for casual to moderate trail hiking and running on dry trails.
@@Jake_Krause Terrex line is excellent for even intense rugged terrain.
@@Jake_Krause so which one is suitable?
Wrong channel for that. Hes is a lifestyle wear tester . I’m sure he’ll say so if you watch the videos .
I got the Free Hiker 2 GoreTex today in size 12 after a long time. Got them for 50% off Boxing Week sale. Can’t believe how comfortable these shoes are just awesome.
Sıcak tutuyor mu ?
Recently purchased the Free Hiker 2 by mistake..I thought Terrex meant Gore-Tex and they both looked similar online! Not until this video popped up did I know there was a difference. I like the stick liner feel better and quite happy with the Free Hiker 2!! Spending a lot of time outdoors, dry and wet, my feet stayed dry without the Gore-Tex!! I prefer sneaker boots and the Free Hiker 2 is my go to now! I like the original Free Hiker also.. I'll look into the Free Hiker 2 Gore-Tex in a another colorway in the future!
I got them at an outlet, I also didn't see any Gore-Tex branding, but I stuck my hand inside and felt the liner, felt the outside, seemed like it would be "water proof" enough (the sides are 100% waterproof as they have a plastic coating). Went for a hike with them today, pretty decent for 90$. Feet are not tired from all the rocks and even saved my ankle because some rocks crumbled beneath me and my foot slipped. Happy to see that they are indeed good enough without Gore-Tex.
Gore-tex is a fraud anyway.
Do not sleep on the Adidas sale that’s going on for these shoes right now. Amazing shoe and it’s great for winter.
Is it warm tho?
@@arighteousname5882 it’s not insulated but it’s warm. If you think the sick let’s warmth out it doesn’t really. These aren’t snow boots but they can be somewhat of a snow shoe for commuting
I got a pair of goretex terrex free hiker 2, two pairs of retropy for $200
Just got my freehiker 2 for $90 on backcountry
I returned the freehiker 2 gtx for the NB hierro mid gtx. I loved the ultraboost bounce but couldn’t get over the very stiff materials and narrow toe box.
I got the hierro mid gtx too, had them for a few weeks and so far I really like them
The lugs on the Hierro could be felt poking my feet when I wore them. I'm average weight too. I returned them.
I just bought a pair yesterday and they literally came today and they had a sale at Adidas normally they’re $230 but I got them for 128 they were like $180 but if you type in score at checkout they come to $128. So right now for the price and the value and they are great. By the way, I watch your videos and that’s how I decided on these so thank you again keep up the great work.
I'm gonna be ordering the the free hiker 2 gore-tex later today off ebay for only $75. I have the original free hiker gore-tex and have been using them for about 2 years at work, but the tread is pretty worn out so it's time for a new pair. One weird thing is the original free-hiker that i have IS the gore-tex version, it says gore-tex on it but looks exactly like your version which doesn't have gore-tex. Also it's been 2yrs now that the Terrex Free Hiker 2 Gore-tex released, why haven't Adidas come out with a new version?
My problem with these is that the boost foam gets shredded by rocks when you’re walking on rough terrain
I wanted to buy the GTX version of these for my Xmas trip to Canada, but they don't sell them at all in this area of SE Asia. Instead, I tried on a pair of NB Hierro v7 and will probably buy a GTX version online and have them delivered when I get to Canada.
Just got these on sale for $160. Pretty stoked to try hiking in them.
Hi do u need half up size for this shoe?
Thanks man I wanted to see a comparison and see which is worth it
How much warmer are the gore-Tex version? Looking for a little traction and warmth, for urban walking in wet/snowy (sometimes icey) conditions in around 20-40 degrees Fahrenheit. Would were with a Darn Tough merino wool sock.
With merino wool socks, the 2.0 is the warmer and better padded of the two versions in 20°-40°F for me when hiking and walking. Though it’ not as warm as the Cold RDY, It feels more like a boot than a sneaker. I do replace the stock insoles with the All Birds merino insoles when it’s below 32°F like right now.
@@Jeo-What amazing! Thank you for taking the time to post this detailed response!!!! Very helpful!
maibe get the cold ready version with continental winter grip?
I really wish the gore tex version had the sock tongue. I just got the gore tex 2 and am returning them for another pair of the first editions because the sock tongue is way better.
Just got these at the outlets for $50. Glad they are gonna be solid
0:53 what's that - double tonge
Damn bro perfect timing I was debating on whether or not to cop the hiker 2
Same here for the last 3 days and just grabbed this morning , was looking for others opinions in comments too
How do these fit?
What’s the difference between the free hikers and ax4?
How does the fit compare to the SolarControl 2? The light hiking boots i have now give me some blisters
Just ordered two pairs of the Terrex Free Hiker XPL GTX's. Still can't find a review. Hoping they're good for Colorado mountain hiking!
The “stability rail” makes them too narrow for flat wide feet.
Hi,are these good for hiking in mountains ?
v1 for me all the way. Smaller toe box is not that big of an issue as i initially thought because i feel like wearing them in helps. But instability of v2 is insane. My legs are on constant stress when i'm walking. I need to think about every step and how i place my feet on the ground, because it feels like the shoes are trying to twist my ankle towards inside. Too bad, v1 was my favorite shoe ever made.
interesting, I got the v2 goretex and they dont feel unstable at all. I was walking on large hills and "ankle twisting" terrain all day the first time I wore them and they still felt very stable and comfortable. makes sense that the goretex upper adds more stability though
I feel they are plenty stable, I read your review but still pulled the trigger and find myself wondering if you have some instability in your muscles or something?
Glad to hear they are working for others. Maybe my pair is botched then. I found out that proper lacing helps to mitigate that issue i have and at one point i started thinking that they are fine. That's until i bought Cold.rdy v1 and realized how very comfortable they are compared against the v2.
My friend went the same route. He first purchased the v2. That was his first pair of free hikers and he was really underwhelmed. He didn't tell he has issues with instability, but i didn't expect him to, because he never owned the v1 to be able to compare. I think without owning the v1's it's harder to come to the "not stable" conclusion.
Some time ago i bought myself nike pegasus trail running shoes and went for a quick hike. One 14km forest trip ant it felt like my ankles were going to break. It was very similar feeling to one i feel wearing v2's (it's even worse on Nike still).
The same week i bought free hikers v1 and difference in comfort and stability was night and day. I repeated the same forest track and i was amazed how relaxing it felt.
Back to my friend. Shortly after he got himself cold.rdy v1 and he instantly started hyping them, calling it the purchase of the year. Neither of us two are really waiting for spring and getting back to v2 honestly.
What exactly is terrex and what’s the difference between terrex, non terrex and gortex
Hey brotha, hopefully you get this in time. How is sizing? Is it true to size? Too narrow and tight? etc. I'm getting the Gore-tex in a few days. I got the Gore-tex ULTRABOOST LIGHT and it was HORRIBLE. The top of my foot was so much pressure and tight. Had to wear them without laces. I returned them so I;m hoping the Gore-tex terrex will be good. Wondering if I need to go up half a size than normal.
Would these be good to work in ? I deliver for FedEx
I think they would be excellent.
Sizing?
Aby review for ax4? Coz its cheaper and i want to know if its waterproof?
Very well done video. I have a question. I wear orthopedic inserts in both shoes and I prefere to not have to take out the shoe I buys original insert. I find that I can wear the shoe longer In the day if I can put my Insert over the one that is in the shoe to begin with. Is there any Information on how these perform all day with an orthopedic foot insert In them?
Is the non GTX version water resistant???
Is there not a GTX version of the 1.0?
i got the regural version for waterproof i have hierro v6 GTX and adidas ax4 gtx
did you notice any difrence in grip betwen cold ready with contintal winergrip vs regural version?
I prefer the regular terrex 2.0 to the gortex 2.0 version because it lets your foot breath. Gortex isn't the ultimate perfect water seal it claims to be. your feet will still get wet in morning dew grass after a few months.. (the layers of seal must wear out) but i find the regular version has the same amount of water proofing plus many many many times more comfort and stability and most importantly dries out properly. the gortex ultimately lets in and traps in moisture. pro hikers even navy seal s wear breathable sneakers designed to get wet and dry quick. gortex sneakers are a bit of a scam imo especially if your feet sweat a lot. the terrestrial 2.0 non gortex is the best hiking shoe ever imo.
I picked up the navy blue free hiker 2 without gore tex for 105 euro here in The Netherlands. Pretty good price for these shoes! I use them for fishing with soft plastic lures in the river where there are a lot of rocks. Catching big pike, perch and pikeperch i will be running on rocks sometimes to not lose the fish. These are perfect for this. Free hiker 2 ❤
are they waterptoof?
@@Kimloost They are not waterproof. But i sprayed them with water resistant spray. And this makes the shoes enough water resistant for what i do with them, while being still breathing enough
Thank you, I just want a good pair for when I go to work or just out during rainy days bc my normal shoes get SOAKED 😭 again tysm@@provocation18
Thanks for the review! I bought one of each after watching this video.
Got the Gore-Tex ones for $140 on Amazon!
so do you like this gore-tex or ultra boost 22 gore-tex?
Personally, I like the extra ankle support on the 2.0 vs the Ultra Boost 22 GTX (Gore-Tex). It’s also warmer and covers higher for waterproof with softer rides under the foot when walking and excellent when hiking with the new deeper tread logs. 22 GTX will be better for me in the fall/spring/summer conditions.
Personally I like both of them depending on the weather condition. GTX goes out in the cooler/cold/rain/snow/winter outdoor conditions only.
@@Jeo-What Do you think i'd be able to longboard in these? I think they'd give me some underfoot resistance at higher speeds.
@@YTwoKay sorry, I don’t know
@@Jeo-What thanks man
Can I use your link to purchase on Adidas Canada?
Are the regular ones waterproof??
No, they are not.
What is the difference between Terrex and GoreTex ? Are they both waterproof ? Super confusing....
Terrex is adidas’ line of outdoor clothing, generally. It’s not a material. So, the regular version is not waterproof. Only the GTX (Gore-Tex) versions are waterproof.
Do you feel like there’s any difference in the toebox width between the two?
V1 is wider V2 is taller. V1 has a bit too much room all around so I use a thicker insole to decrease the space but V2 is perfect for my medium wide and medium tall instep foot.
Thanks for real!!!!!! $115 for the newest model, Thanks! That’s why I’ve been with you for years! Thanks for the amazing content.
Literaly just spend 3 hours going through reviews of both versions. I never owned freehikers but I wear my ultraboosts daily, I love the free hiker 1 design a lot better, would you think it's not worth going with the old version anymore compared to the new one?
if you love boost you will love the freehikers - got 3 pairs. they always drop in price and if you are patient you can get them at 50% off
Yo Hes can you do a review on the new ACG Gaiadome boot? Seems like it would be something you would be interested in and am debating picking up a pair myself
Hey brother please do a review of ADIDAS TERREX AX4 MID GTX. I purchased these AX4 shoes last week but I could not find any good reliable reviews or details about them so i want to know more regarding my shoe from you. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the review. Like you I have both versions and used both for over a month now. I find the FH2.0 locks down the heal much better than the FH1.0 and the footbed comfort is as good as the FH1.0 with the Hefeluxx Original comfort insole replacement. The FH2.0 fits true to size while the FH1.0 has more room so it's less stable unless I replace the insole with the Hefeluxx insole. The FH2.0 GTX is definitely much more padded and hugs the foot batter than the FH1.0 GTX. It is great for cooler weather like winter. Would like to see the triple black model on the FH2.0 GTX and the FH Cold RDY 2.0 in the near future. So glade that the Boost material is no longer exposed under the outsole which is impossible to clean once is stained with grass.
This is a spammer. Goes to every single review of this shoe and says the same thing over and over or defends it. Gives all these weird positive experiences with these hiker.

Those are clean! Remind me of the ACG Terra Gobe
I like the 2nd one I have the older one in olive Gore Tex I will be picking up the new one in olive and also black
I have v1 and the size is 9.5 US without Gore-Tex, and I saw the v2 color looks good and want to buy it. But I saw the review on Adidas's website for this some people said the v2 is tight. My country didn't sell it so I only have to use e-commerce and can't return it. Could someone recommend the size that I should buy😭 (9.5 or 10 US size)?
I want to use it for hiking with woolen socks and the normal daily walk using regular socks.
Thanks~🙏🙏🙏
0.5 size up
Yeah go half size up. You want some room in the toes especially if you are hiking
Is it me or is it bigger than usual. I wear a 9.5 and it feels like a 10.5
Do you think the Terrex X Wander Free 2.0 is water resistant?
no i have them its same as regural version
@@YosefElgart I literally just watched a review where a guy soaked them in water and said they were dry after standing around in the rain.
For Adidas members, the free hiker 2 is on sale for $100 bucks right now!
Just got my pair today! Thanks Hess for the recommendation! Got the black gore Tex.
The free hiker 2 has a better style profile vs the gore-tex version. I have done a few outdoor hikes in my new ones and they feel pretty great. After a few hours they start to feel not breathable so I can imagine how air tight the goretex versions many feel. I haven't tested any deep puddles but wearing them to/from work in the NW rain seems good so far. Reliable grip on the city streets too. Feels true to size so I didn't have to order a size up or anything.
For me, the best boost is colored. White boost easily to be yellowed either for free hiker / ultraboost / NMD, etc
Can’t wait for the triple black or other darker colour Boost sole models in the future 👍
I have a pair of Free Hiker 2 GTX and they are comfortable and nice :D
Are they warm?
@@arighteousname5882 not really they are pretty thin
These are nice, but they squeak on flat surfaces if you're out and about. Really annoying.
Do Terrex free hiker 2 squeak for anyone else?
Not for me
Not for me either
Nice Tommy Boy reference 😂
Just bought em for $115, couldn’t say no lol
for israel its 160$ after the discounts
We all need this video Hes 🎉 well done 👍🏾 thank you very much 🍻
goretex much warmer for summer walking. Unless you're going through rivers, better non goretex.
I do not recommend this shoe if you have a fat foot. This shoe is a little more on the narrow side at the toes. Other than that its a great shoe
Hes new to your channel , appreciate your reviews and vids just picked up the free hiker 2 Looking foward to more vids
the guy doesn't look like he's never been on a trail hahaha
Good for light hiking only or on urban trails. Mine lasted only one season. Stick to Lowa, Scarpa, La Sportiva, Zamberlan brand or any company that has it roots in serious outdoor adventures.
I really want a zip up cold.rdy free hiker 2
Context - I'm Adidas huge fan, got 4 pairs of UB22, and about 10 different kinds of Terrex shoes.
FH 2 GTX have HUGE quality control issues. I ordered 4 pairs before I got one that LOOKED OK... but in fact it is soaking water like a sinking ship via front of the shoe. I have friends who have EXACTLY same problem.
I still keep those since 1) can't return them after being used, 2) these are EXTREMELY comfortable. But NOT water resistant, water proof, or anything with water because even in barely wet grass both my socks are wet in the toes area.
I get that you have no time to properly test these shoes, but your reviews are SOOOO bad sometimes... UB21 you said you spent day in Disneyland in those - how? Worst shoes from Adidas. UB Light - you said are more plushy than UB22 - not at all! Day after those were released I ordered 'em and when came I bought 2 pairs of UB22 because UB Light are same plush as UB22 and looks way more durable 🙈
Too narrow on the toes. Not enough space for big toe to move. Old version was perfect. Don't understand why they have to ruin a perfect shoe...
u could use some hikes man. u got the 2chin and double triceps going on
10 min useless talk. I wish I could see how you put those on ... looks impossible and I was curious. Can I cut that bs sock on the wrist?
