yeah, i think some of it, especially with that first example, that this was kinda blown out of proportion. the Magnet art definitely isn't traced, it's referenced. it's a very similar pose but it's obviously drawn and positioned differently. and personally i don't really think using stock images is that much of a big deal, even if it is a bit scummy to not at least source where you traced it from. if it were someone else's art that went unpaid for, then yeah i'd be more pissed about it. but like,,, idk. Magnet's art definitely isn't traced.

It's a shame that some VOCALOIDs are shelved because their voice providers did something bad or controversial. The whole point of voice banks is that they can be anything their producers and fans want them to be, which gives them their own identity. When most people think of Miku they don't think of Saki Fujita; if Crypton suddenly decided to make a Miku voice bank with another voice provider it would still be Miku, because she is so much more than Saki Fujita's edited voice.
Although I agree with the sentiment, I do not think that Hatsune Miku's case fits this scenario very well. She was always intented to be her own seperate character, while YOHIOloid's design resembles his voice provider quite a lot. That and the name YOHIOloid itself make him diffirent from Hatsune Miku despite them both being VOCALOIDs. Taking that into account, I understand the decision. I myself have actually been finding it harder to continue liking Utatane Piko even though he was one of my most favourite vocaloids, as I found out that he has said some things that coud be interpreted as problematic in the past. Also because of the whole design and name resemblance thing.
this is a couple clarifications on yohio, coming from a yohio fan who was active at the time of the drama. btw, i come in peace. this is not an attempt to start a fight, just an attempt to make sure misinformation and oversimplification isn't continually being spread.
1. yohio never said c0vid was a hoax, he got c0vid himself in 2022 and fully admitted to it. that said, he believes that c0vid wasn't something to really worry about and was frustrated with the regulations imposed during the p@ndemic.
2. the person accused of being a neo-n@zi was NOT yohio's bandmate. yohio's bands, past and current, are Seremedy and Disreign. this man belonged to the band Marduk, a band with a very controversial history (they recently let a member go for performing the n@zi salute on stage). i believe this band had crossed paths with yohio when he was younger through the swedish metal scene, and because of this, the accused person was someone yohio used to collaborate with. i never heard of any evidence that yohio was remotely involved with this band's neo-n@zi activity. yohio himself claimed to have talked with this person about the accusations and vehemently denied that there was any truth to them.
once again, this is just my attempt to make sure nuance isn't lost, because ive seen the drama get blown way out of proportion and used as an excuse for unnecessary cruelty. none of what i've said excuses his poor behavior. i don't agree with any of yohio's political beliefs that were mentioned and i don't condone his inauthentic response to backlash, and i regret, but very much understand, vocatone's choice to terminate their business with him.

People always say shit like this without any proof and it pisses me the fuck off. It's always "so and so said this bla bla bla" without any real proof and people just believe anything they see. Similar thing happed on twitter a few months ago with people accusing members of Versailles for SA despite any proof and it coming from an anonymous account known for misinformation.
@@gizmo4192 No, exactly. It’s very frustrating. The reality is, sometimes people exaggerate or make things up for a “joke” or just to be cruel. I feel like way too many people online have developed the assumption that if someone says anything at all, there has to be some form of truth to it. Soon, misinformation has spread everywhere and people don’t even remember where they heard things in the first place.

Giving clarity shouldn't make you look like a defender - dogpiling someone for things they didn't do just takes focus away from the things they DID do.
I missed the whole younami-p controversy and was honestly shocked at the whole tracing shit. And just these days I was praising Magnet for both the music and the art...
The yunomi-P one doesn't seem too bad IMO. Some of their art does look like direct traces with no credit which isn't good of corse, but some of that stuff looks pretty transformative to me. I could be missing something of course. I use stock photos all the time as reference, so this isn't something uncommon for artists at any level. Seems like a big grey area situation, think she might have been better off crediting some sources at the least. That being said, the Japanese are much more strict with copyright from what I know.

A few corrections on Masa.
1.The person was 17
2. The user also put the song on a yt topic channel. These are guarteened to get money. Also multiple videos were claimed by the user
3. Masa himself did not do the d0x but did encourage it.
4. A thing to note is that Japan takes copyright infringement seriously and if Masa did take legal action, the uploader would of gone through a lot worse. (I am not justifying Masa's actions)

I hate how rowen's demo situation could've been avoided had mugen did the fucking work, but I am kinda glad that rowen is still set to release. Least he could still be a vocaloid, and not suffer the fates of sayu or yohioloid

I went to the Miku Expo show in LA 2 days ago and they brought way more light sticks than they did to the previous shows, majority of attendees had one. At least they listened to one complaint as of now but in the end they’re just making more money off of us from selling more light sticks. If they were to listen to our complaints about the LED screen, that would cost them more money which is why they don’t want to change it for the rest of the tour.
I have the masa song in my Spotify playlist and I didn’t know that there was a controversy around it lol

oh my god i was a hardcore fan of yohio for years and recently was feeling silly and goofy and looked at his twitter... fucking bible verses, tweeting about jesus, "breaking out of your dystopian descent" and "saving yourself", just a bunch of crazy shit.

This is great (and a lot better than the last video I commented on) and I can tell you did a lot of research but the text to speech is off putting at times. It also made me think this was a content farm thing at first as I have seen some...interesting vocaloid content that uses ai/text to speech voices.
I actually was watching the rest of the video before commenting (was just under half way through) and the Hatsune Miku Vevo section has a massive audio increase...
sorry about that! obviously this my first time doing something like this so it’s trial and error but i’ll take this into consideration for next time :) my original idea was to use vocalochanger so it was more human, but the audio was unintelligible

Oh my God I was following the Vocaloid China (now VSinger) releases when the second contest was announced. I was so confused and shocked and hurt bc I'd been waiting for them to finally release the others (especially Yuezheng Ling), and I was grumpy that I actually really liked Yanhe's design (bc gender). I stopped following stuff for a long time after that and only recently got back into that side of the fandom, but I still never learned what was going on until now. What a shitty situation and no wonder they couldn't explain to the fans what was happening at the time... I'm really glad they managed to recover and things are going strong now.

the song is about a real life schizophrenic child, which depicts her hallucinations. some people thought it was insulting to people with the disorder. crusher even made shirts for it for the charity (jani foundation) and as it turns out the girl it was written about wasnt schizophrenic, it was fabricated, and she was abused by her parents.

Not trying to defend Maretu of everything here since cheating is kinda shitty regardless, but I'd just like to clarify a few things
1. Maretu did not confirm he groomed/abused/slept with a mentally ill minor. The only thing he confirmed was that he cheated on his ex with another woman. He would sue his ex for defamation for supposedly lying about that aspect, and from what I've seen, the accusations were deleted, so make of that what you will.
2. Even if what his ex said was true, the minor in question wasn't really a minor, although it's a bit complicated. His ex would clarify that the woman he slept with was (supposedly) actually 19, which is above the age the rest of the world generally considers to be an adult. At the time in Japan however, the law considered those under 20 to be minors, but then like 2-3 years ago, the age of adulthood was lowered to 18, so all in all it's a bit messy.
The "minor" in question was over 18 years old. Cheating on his ex and having an affair with his fan was absolutely shitty, but MARETU sued his ex for defamation by misrepresenting the situation.

i’d recommend doing your own research on the topic. but essentially it is a stereotyped colonial view of asian culture and is considered extremely harmful
