    I live in Sweden and no Melinda, we really do not want more billionaires. If they were all like Bill Gates then maybe, but most likely, most of them will turn out more like Donald Trump.

      Amen to that!
      We need Bill Gates to hand out his own wealth to the poor. Sure if all ritch people do that sure, but what if they got taxed and helped poor familys instead. No need to give away the money you dont have the time to spend

      The way she meant it was that if the rules allowed for more billionaires with a different tax system in place the growth of people like Bill to exist in the country would be greater, the tax rate in Sweden makes business not want to exist. Infact I would say it hurts growth.

      People with wealth really don't flex at all. It's the people with no money or don't have that much of money (usually) who flex. They have a car they don't own, they have a nice watch they bought for all their savings, but they probably lives in a shithole.

    • @ugay9379
      @ugay9379 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Billionaires own your ass. They want you to be happy enough to work for them and that's why they don't flex.

    • @hihello6353
      @hihello6353 5 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@ugay9379 like R.T said. I have family members that are very wealthy, they don't flex with shit,they have normal clothes and so on. If you see them on the street im 100 % sure you don't think they got a lot of money when they really do.
      They don't give a fuck about what brand of clothes they use,they don't give a fuck what people think about them. They doing there own race and keeping a low profile.

    • @leemanism
      @leemanism 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@hihello6353- That really depends on what you mean by "very wealthy" and it also depends on the culture. I live in western Canada in a Chinese-immigrant-centric city. The wealthy actually drive around in luxury cars, dress in the best and their kids really do flaunt that wealth. There was a piece of land here, former farmland, bought up two years ago and a huge luxury car garage was built on top. Another example is a super wealthy couple who drove around town in their latest Lambo. The guy is in his 50's with his young wife. Mind you, he was also arrested for dodging taxes.
      While it is true some millionaires and billionaires are low-key, most millionaires I know aren't. They're low-key when it comes to one-on-one interactions, but otherwise, you know they are rich by just watching them behave, talk and buy things. I only know two millionaires that don't flaunt so openly. One is a family member and the other is a friend. Both of these people dine in the same places I dine at, talk the same 'language' (gaming, nerd-stuff, 'normal-stuff') and spend as if they are still in the lower-middle class, but not being stingy. These two pocket around 1-1.5 million a year.

      @Daily Catnip I can see ways to interpret this as making fun of bill gate as you pointed out, but, i think that would have to push certain assumption little further ahead than what people intended when they found this funny. I certainly found it funny that audience was doing little too much but you can replace anybody of interest(not just bill gate) and still found the situation to be funny.
      Perhaps what you were pointing out was, the show was taking opportunity to express this particular joke(which wasn't directed at bill gate personally ) in the expense of someone who took their time to come up onto the show. I see your point but it wasn't as personal as you would say. You gotta laugh at shallow attempts like this or you will see everything as insults.

      Personally, I think that we ought to make corporate taxes variable. Depending on the financial health of the company, and how well they treat their employees. Basically, if the company is healthy, and they are not investing the money into employee wellness, then they will be taxed heavily since they are benefiting from the welfare system. This needs to be done carefully, so as to not kill the businesses, but to encourage them to act like their employees are human beings that need to eat to survive.

Most ignored him until he got very loud and said we have 2 minutes 30 seconds folks you need to get out of your chairs and file out through the exits we're going to go over to another Studio where the musical guest is. It took us forever standing on the street like idiots to get into the show and when we are finally seated it did not compute. Amazon doubled its profits in 2018 and made more than $11 Billion, won't pay any federal income taxes for the second year in a row, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy reported on Wednesday, Feb 13, 2019.
    The company will not be required to pay the standard 21 percent income tax rate on its 2018 profits, and is claiming a tax rebate of $129 million, which ITEP describes as a "a tax rate of negative 1 percent."
    Amazon drew ire in 2018 for not paying federal taxes on its $5.6 billion in profits the year before, which was made possible due to tax credits and stock-based compensation, reports Politifact. Last year was the first time Amazon paid no federal income tax whatsoever.
    From 2011 to 2016, Amazon payed federal income tax at a rate of 11.4 percent - less than half of the national rate of 35 percent.

      @@nsorrentino5 That's the exact OPPOSITE of what should be done. If you raise the corporate tax rate businesses will do the same thing they did when we had that horrible President Barack Obama. They will simply offshore their money to other countries. When Trump became President big companies like Apple, Microsoft, etc brought their money they were hoarding overseas for YEARS back into the United States because the tax rate was too high in America before. Trump's business tax cuts encouraged them to bring that money back into the United States to be taxed. That's exactly what those businesses decided to do. Why get killed on taxes when you can just place a headquarters in another country to circumvent being taxed? These businesses are smarter than you Nicholas. Raising the tax rate on businesses crushes economic growth, causes lower employment, and lower wages. You need to tax the personal income and other assets.

It was a touching story until you realize that no child with cancer should be out fundraising on behalf of other cancer stricken children because their government will not cover their needs. Her parents have put tons of time and effort into earning taxable income and the government will not even do their part for their child.
      That girl should be focusing on her therapy, and hopefully become healthy enough to focus on her academics and future career, so that best care scenario she becomes a tax contributing member of society, instead of going out collecting money to cover her and others' health care costs. SAD

    I think the taxing should be the same for all, but there should be laws that prevent certain companies or individuals to have so much dominance in their markets, allowing for growth to be stimulated by collaboration instead of competition. That way, if a company wants to keep growing after reaching its market portion limit, it would be forced to help the market grow instead of eliminating its competitors.

      The bigger their wealth-number, the more they are perceived to have "power". The more resources at their disposal, the harder it is for common folk like us to access those resources, which means greater sway over our behaviors to access those resources for our own survival.
      That's only one aspect of it, but it's one of the more telling ones, because if the government can successfully tax the megarich higher and redistribute the wealth to the general populace, we'll see a greater chance of rising business competition against those same megarich, and we'll see less people who'll feel the need to hustle for the megarich's resources for survival, which are both existential threats to the megarich and their source of power.

    What Bill said about being a politician is very important. "We are specialized in what we dig into and what we know". Just because you're a good business person or well educated does not mean you can hold a high political office. Maybe if you work your way up, but definitely not go for the top at first try. You don't know how a system works until you're apart of it. So to assume you can directly manage it is naive and arrogant.

      Olympias, unfortunately a lot/if not most seeking office do so for selfish reasons, not to improve the well being of their communities. You can tell who they are...the first thing they do when elected is to reduce taxes for their class, hire their friends and relatives, support bills that benefit their businesses, reward their campaign donors, and the last stroke...is when they leave office they end up working in those same companies which they have enriched. The political landscape today is a very corrupt one, being masked as "people wanting to give back".

Even tough they are already multi- billion dollar companies, Tesla was almost getting bankrupt last year (Exept of course Bernie Sander or Ocasio Cortez already promised something like lower taxes on those companies to keep them above water)

    • @ThatFairyBoy
      @ThatFairyBoy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@chrissse990 I'm definitely not an expert on our tax system or economics, but when average people talk about raising taxes generally they are talking about citizens' income/property taxes rather than companies/organizations'. So in the case of Tesla since you mentioned it they refer to raising Elon Musk's tax rates for his income which wouldn't change the amount the company is allocating to his paycheck, but would affect how much he gets in his bank account.
      And also from what I understand Tesla, being that it is still a fairly young company, is still mostly in the investment phase where it is running basically on the initial sum of money from when it started, and they are still growing and refining themselves to be able to turn a profit. Which, as they continue to improve and streamline their manufacturing and get more cars out to be sold, should be relatively soon.

(So if say Brad Pitt gets 20 million for his next blockbuster movie he would probably pay around 8 million in tax)

In terms of computers I think this is a horrible argument because places like the windows store notoriously function awfully for apps and games. Even semi-recently I was trying to play PSO2's north american release which is a windows store exclusive and it was so broken it installed multiple 70gig directories it wouldn't give me access to and actually did permanent damage to my SSD. I think anyone who remembers the glory days of microsoft XP or earlier and the freedom computers used to give you probably scoffs at the idea that the current windows operating systems are fine.
      He's acting more humanitarian for sure than many billionaires hoarding wealth but.... he could give away 90% of his wealth, hang up his hat and call it a day never needing to stop his life of luxury or work a day in his life if he so decided not to. There's a lot of critics of Bill Gates who think he has too much power with places like the Bill and Melinda gates foundation. Due to his influence and money he can ignore a lot of real world health issues and skew the public healthcare system to focus more on things like polio than cancer(an actual thing he's already done) AGAINST the advice of real scientists and doctors. Maybe he's a really smart guy and he makes some good points about philanthropists like elon musk doing incredible stuff the government is behind on BUT - There's a big discussion on if those kind of people are needed, or how many more people like that there are but aren't discovered due to a lack of start up capital. I'm not gonna say the guy is evil, he's not but he does have way too much power for someone who is supposed to be a regular citizen like the rest of us, and that comes from his money. Many would argue him holding that much wealth and "investing" in future ideals he values is costing other people their lives.
      beyond that though... Bill Gates is an outlier with most billionaires or trillionaires like Jeff Bezos not being benevolent generous kind people. You can't get that rich without exploiting others in my opinion. There's a conversation here you shouldn't dismiss about whether it's morally okay to allow people or even companies to hold such insane amounts of wealth.
      Again he's not evil but he IS more powerful than most countries in the world so don't be fooled into thinking he's just a quirky harmless philanthropist.
