Shawn Michaels vs Shelton Benjamin was a Monday Night Raw match that came out of nowhere and went beyond our expectations with that spectacular mid-air sweet chin music. It was one of the best of all times.
That’s a lot of talent in one ring. Some got to make the most of it (Austin, HBK) and the others are two of the bigger “what if”’s in the business (Owen, Davey Boy).
HBK is my #1 of all time. This video let me revisit matches I didn't expect you to pick, and haven't seen in a while. Love your content. Best wrestling channel on TH-cam.
I've been watching old Mid South on Peacock, and Shawn Micheals showed up in late 84 as a job guy for guys like Ted Dibiase. If I'm not mistaken, it's the first time Shawn was on TV. He's a total blank slate, which is hilarious when you look at what he accomplished.
1.Shawn Michaels Royal Rumble 1995+1996. 95 Was my 1st RR match and 96 I was a total HBK fan, was so glad he won at WM. 2. Shanw Michaels vs Owen Hart - just 2 classic legends giving their all. Technical, highflying and both gave it their all. 3. Shawn Michaels vs British Bulldog - every match was great. 4. S.M vs Steve Austin WrestleMania. 5. Rockers - so many tag matches that were great. Loved it all. Yes so many matches. You can make 5 of these videos.
I also really like the encounter between Taker and Shawn at WM26. There was so much emotion, given HBK having his career on the line, and his final defiant gesture before the tombstone puts him down for good is classic Shawn Michaels.
Will definitely throw a vote for Shawn vs Bret at Survivor Series 92, one of the most underrated (and forgotten) matches imo. Yeah there wasn't a lot of storytelling going into it and they had been battling each other at house shows (and ladder/cage matches) throughout that year, but a champion vs champion match, and the first PPV to not end with a Hogan/Warrior/Macho Man match/title (I think?), it's pretty significant I think. The true start to the "new generation" era.
As I think on it, Survivor Series 1991 woulda been first, Hogan/Taker was on middle of that card. Only due to wanting to use it to build interest in a rematch days later at This Tuesday in Texas, but I digress.
@@mikeabel7577 Right, but still, this was the first world title match on a PPV to not feature at least Hogan, Macho or Warrior in some form. It was Bret vs Shawn. Bret had closed a PPV before (SS 92 for the IC belt against bulldog) and other matches were billed as the "main event", but again, this was closing the PPV with the main belt on the line and there was no Hogan, Macho or Warrior in sight.
@@EliasRoy I meant first PPV to end with the WWF/WWE title match (SS 92 did end with Bret/Bulldog for the IC belt) and it not feature Hogan, Macho or Warrior in some capacity.
I heard an interview with Al Snow where he was asked to compare Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. He said he couldn't separate them but he said they worked differently - the Hitman was trying his hardest to win, whilst HBK was trying his hardest not to lose. An interesting analysis. I like learning more about HBK matches as I got into wrestling in 2000 after his first retirement but stopped watching before he returned.
Wrestling Bios is by far the best and I enjoy every upload…all your Shawn picks were a lot of mine but you’re correct…there’s so many, it’s hard to choose
The Michaels vs HHH royal rumble match finish makes logical sense tho. They beat the hell out of each other for 30 minutes and lost a lot of blood. Shawn hitting that final big move with sweet chin music an not being able to stand back up cause of exhaustion is a great finish.
Regardless of how he was backstage Shawn Michaels is one of the main reasons me and my brother loved wrestling as a kid. Especially because our names are Sean and Michael 😂
all these matches were awesome great video as always shawn michaels vs chris jericho at wrestlemania 19 was amazing that's a personal favorite of mine because that was the first wrestlemania i ever watched can't believe that happened 21-years ago it's really been that long.
Michaels vs. Davey Boy Smith from Main Event where he wins his first IC title is pretty good. Good back and forth and he bumped all over for Smith. This was fairly soon after his heel turn so it was neat to see him back up his pretty boy gimmick by winning a title.
I said it in your Bret Hart video, but its worth saying again here. Bret vs Shawn at Survivor Series 92 is one of my all time favorite matches. Its really a window into the future about how these legends would dominate the mid 90s of WWF wrestling. The intercontinental championship has always been my favorite belt. The classic 90s one is one I've considered buying a replica of. Seeing Bret with the winged eagled belt and shawn with the IC belt just feels right in my brain. Champion vs champion is always a good story point despite being how simple it is. I hope you cover it separately one day. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment ^^
For me spot like this 12:20 are part of the reasons why i always loved Shawn as a wrestler(top 5 for me) He could sell like any other and he had great charisma and could tell a great story in the ring.Great list by the way😉
The Triple Threat at Mania. The spot were Benoit has Hunter in a sharpshooter and Shawn comes out of nowhere with a dashing super kick. It looked amazing.
Indeed. Especially that, like the WM X ladder match, it went on to inspire other classics. In this case, the famous Fingerpoke of Doom between Nash and Hogan.
HBK was probably the closest thing to an all rounder wrestler. Had the charisma, mic skills, presence and what should I even say about his in ring skills.
@@lionkingdom777 Errr sure. Outside the USA. Bret drew huge numbers. Shawn didn't draw either side of any pond. Most of Shawns matches looked dated bar the top ones. A huge drop off from the best matches to the out and out stinkers he had. Bret couldn't wrestle with a small handfull of wrestlers compared to the 100's he could. "If Bret couldn't get a good match from Jean- Pierre LaFitte, then no one can!" PS. That is one of the dumbest comebacks I've read. "If you judge the Champion by attendance" How else do you judge? My favourite HBK match is the one he had with Taker at Mania 25. And if I had a second favourite HBK match it'd be his retirement match with Taker at Mania 26. This back to back Mania classics truly showcase how great of a performer HBK was and how he can make any talent look good in the ring and how he could elevate the match to a whole new level
Ryan , of allllll the Matches Shawn has had, and you absolutely selected the best of the best for sure... but I'm sooo glad you included the 55 minute Raw match from 2007 in England.. that's one of my all time favorite matches and the sweet chin music counter to Cena's finisher looked incredibly good... the way Shawn popped off Cena's shoulders and flipped, landed, stepped a tiny bit towards the corner and POP, landed that super kick was incredibly smooth and to fall into the pin immediately after seeing Cena take the kick and fall the way he did... it couldn't have looked any better.. thank you for including this one brother!!
I happen to love the WrestleMania 12 Iron Man match, 2 of the best performers in the world then and of all time, perfectly executing a well laid out, story driven match with incredible pacing and timing. Each worker had the opportunity to shine and definitely elevated them both in the eyes of fans in regards to their work ethic.
My favourite Shawn Michaels match is Shawn vs the undertaker at wrestlemania 26 because of the added stakes and the emotional ring exit after the match
Please do one of these for terry funk! Such an amazing and influential wrestler that doesn’t always get the love I feel he deserves, would be an amazing choice
Personally my favorite is Wrestle Mania 26 for 2 reasons, the match was just as if not better than the previous match because of higher stakes and because I was there to watch such a match in person
I really love seeing the Summerslam 02 match mentioned here. I remember the lead up to that very vividly and it had me so hyped that I begged and begged my mom to order it for me and she did. I couldn't take my eyes off the TV that whole night. Good times man, good times.
Great vid! It can almost be argued most of Shawn's greatest matches are those he lost. I love his comeback match in 2002 where he kicks the rope hurting HHH's little game. I also love the Hogan match due to Shawn just absolutely hamming it up overselling. It was a masterclass in pettiness to Hogan (the king of petty) and I'm all for it. I'm totally biased since I grew up on the Rockers, re-fell in love with wrestling during the attitude era (pre and post-Shawn's departure) but HBK is one of my absolute favorites. I also love his match against Stone-cold where the special needs kid tried defending him. How he handled that was fantastic. He and Austin had a great chemistry and it's a shame they didn't get to wrestle against and with each other more.
Thanx for including WM 19, personal favorite beacuse I was there.. Rock vs stone cold was my favorite but Shawn's match gets overlooked beacuse of the beast botch. His entrance was simple but looked sick live and on video. Then the ball shot, we all fell for it at Safeco field.
Ever since the start of this series, I'd been anticipating this episode more than any other. I love Shawn Michaels so much, his match catalogue may genuinely be one of the greatest ever. That run of Wrestlemania matches he had from 19 through to 26 were all amazing. For me personally, the first ever Elimination Chamber match is one of my biggest comfort matches because it was basically my introduction to wrestling. The whole 2002 Survivor Series was a banger show, and the main event was the violent introduction the Elimination Chamber really needed, and the triumphant return for HBK that, where the very same MSG crowd had booed him in 96, had almost taken the roof off the arena by how happy they were in 2002. Another match I recently went back to see and thought was great was Shawn vs Randy Orton at Survivor Series 2007 - the stipulations being Orton would lose the title on a DQ, and Shawn was banned from hitting Sweet Chin Music. And Shawn mustered up all the technical wizardry he had in his arsenal to produce a good mat-based and high-flying performance against Orton's more aggressive game - applying submissions throughout the match, including a Sharpshooter (Shawn doing a Sharpshooter at a Survivor Series, huh!), a Figure-4, and a Crossface (I think Shawn was the first wrestler to use a crossface after the tragedies of the Benoits). It ends with Shawn hesitating on a superkick realising he'd get DQ'd, and Orton put him away with an RKO, only to eat a Sweet Chin Music anyway after the bell.
The HBK vs Razor Ramon ladder match pissed off Randy Savage who accused them of going into it for themselves since the match went on longer than planned which caused a tag match afterwards to be removed due to time constraints
Shawn vs. Shelton Benjamin has to be ranked up there. Yes, it may not be as memorable as a ladder match or an Ironman match, but damn, those 2 worked so well in that short match.
Those are 2 matches that showcase how amazing Michaels was. No way those matches, especially with Vince, had any right to be anywhere near as good and entertaining as they were.
As usual you’re the best at what you do! Great stuff! And I completely agree with your picks. I might have chosen a few different but ya can’t argue with any of your choices imo!
Shawn Michaels is the greatest wrestler of all time..hbk was my idol before Austin came to wwf..hbk can wrestle with a paper bag n make it a 5 star match..lov ur channel..👌💙
The shawn of the times with the jarret in the beginning was my favorite babyface run, where he left a beard and his craft became more routinized and his moveset was finished and perfected! I would say not one of his most successful runs but as a babyface guy admired him so much at that time!
Yeah... he would bring it up at least a dozen times in every match... not to mention his "Resilience". I know the commentary is meant to keep the viewers savvy to what's going on and who's who... but damn it just felt like an insult to my intelligence lol. Like, I know he's flamboyant and resilient.... I watch every damn week!!!
SummerSlam 95 Ladder Match v Razor Ramon, underrated and in my Top 3 one on one ladder matches w/ WMX & Rumble 2001. May & July 1993 Monday Night RAW, IC title defenses against Marty Jannetty, both the title change and the rematch after Shawn won the belt back at the house show in June. SummerSlam 2005 v Hogan, even with the overselling by HBK still Hogan’s best in ring performance since WM5 against Macho Man. But my all-time favorite is a house show I attended Aug. 1989 at the Philadelphia Spectrum as a boy, a 30 min. Ironman Match between the Rockers and the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers. An absolute gem.
One of HBK hidden gem was on 1991 episode of Superstars still part of The Rockers he did all the match by himself didn't tagged Marty Jannety. Didn't know this at first especially reading the WWF Magazine the day before that they were planting the seed for Shawn Michaels to turned heel and go solo
Shawn vs Mankind at mind games in my opinion was the blueprint of what every attitude era main event match became. In my opinion it’s the best dq finish match in wwe history
Many more of my favorites of his are: Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart - Survivor Series 1992. It showed Shawn early in his prime as he was developing into the great wrestler he would become. Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon - SummerSlam 1995. This match is better than WrestleMania X. It’s more hard-hitting, more action-packed, and both men just wanted to beat the hell out of each other. Shawn Michaels vs Triple H - Armageddon 2002. Their rematch at Armageddon in the three stages of hell stipulation showed how much Triple H was willing to do to get the title back whilst Shawn was willing to do to keep it. Shawn Michaels vs Triple H - 12/29/2003. I think the double pin here, and Eric saying Triple H retained was more entertaining and a better finish than the RR 2004 matchup. Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair - WrestleMania 24. Ric Flair put his all into this career-threatening match and you could see the entire time that Shawn was hesitant whilst Flair was provoking him and trying to get him to put him down. Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker - WrestleMania 25. Two of the best workers in the WWE just went out there and decided to throw everything they had at each other, and light the place on fire. Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker - WrestleMania 26. The rematch. Shawn desperately wanted another chance at Taker that it drove him insane and he gave up DX and put his career on the line. Shawn grounded the Undertaker here by targeting his legs the whole match. The moonsault to the legs through the table, the chokeslams, the last ride, a tombstone outside, a superkick out of nowhere, hell’s gate, sweet chin music, chokeslam, tombstone and a JUMPING tombstone to end Shawn’s career.
Shawn vs. Shelton Benjiman during a simple RAW match lasted I think the entire back half of the last hour of that Monday Night, where Shawn ends it with Sweet Chin Music kicking Shelton mid air after he launches toward HBK. Before that moment it was a tight back and forth match, what's really amazing it had no heat to it, just two guys wrestling a match both were babyfaces at the time, Shelton was a couple months away from his momma's boy gimmick and Shawn was currently between storylines.
Monday night raw HBK vs HHH shortly after Shawn won the title was a great HBK match. Both played off each other real well. I have the match on tape. Also HBK vs Shelton Benjamin with one of the greatest finishes to a match ever!
Shawn Michaels vs Shelton Benjamin was a Monday Night Raw match that came out of nowhere and went beyond our expectations with that spectacular mid-air sweet chin music. It was one of the best of all times.
JR: “Oh my god in heaven, the sweet chin music, it is academic!”
That was the BEST sweet chin music and Shelton took it like a champ and sold it perfect
@@timothyholland2927 I just rewatched that match back not long ago. Shelton vs Shawn was a match made in wrestling heaven
Came here just to find someone else that appreciated HBK's RAW match with Shelton Benjamin!
Yeah that superkick was incredible, possibly the best ever.
"Shawn Michaels can have a great match with a broom" - Undertaker.
Hell, he can have a great match with a couch!
Shawn and Stone Cold vs. Owen and The Bulldog from Raw is always a gem to watch!
So happy someone FINALLY mentioned that match up
That’s a lot of talent in one ring. Some got to make the most of it (Austin, HBK) and the others are two of the bigger “what if”’s in the business (Owen, Davey Boy).
Good call!!! That was a solid match.
Shawn was an amazing worker. His match with Mankind at Mind Games was really good.
I was at that show and it was a definite banger but for some reason it flies under the radar a lot.
No one talks about that match enough .
Might as well make this one a trilogy!
Yes!
Shawn vs Angle was an all time classic
Scott Hall knew what he was doing in the ladder match and did it well. Scott was always unselfish when it came to business.
Scott was Mr. Put Over Everybody
Macho Man was the same. If not for Macho Man wanting to put him over, then DDP wouldn't have the star he was in WCW
He would have been World Champ if he could have just stayed a little sober. Love Scott RIP
He walked the line of being too unselfish, but those are the men that built the business.
"Scott Hall was there when Shawn Michaels wrestled a ladder" - Ric Flair

One of my fav matches of Mr. HBK is the Gold Rush match on Raw 05 vs Shelton Benjamin really good showcase of both guys and the great superkick spot.
Yup.
Shawn vs Randy Savage at the Sheffield Arena 1992. Shawn was just starting his first singles run but him and Savage put on a classic title match.
Amazing career ..and a incredible comeback 🎉 the goat in my eyes
The WM 25 HBK vs. Under Taker match is by far the best wrestling match I've ever had the privilege to see.
I was 4 rows back from ringside at that Cena-Michaels Raw match in London. Being in the crowd for that - never known anything like it.
believe or not I have watched most of Shawn Miicheals matches, pretty all of his matches
Shawn is my favorite. And I’m so happy he found Jesus.
The shawn of the times with the jarret in the beginning was my favorite babyface run, where he left a beard and his craft became more routinized and his moveset was finished and perfected!
I would say not one of his most successful runs but as a babyface guy admired him so much at that time!

"You can see Shawn's athleticism along with that flamboyance and showmanship that Vince McMahon won't shut up about" 😂
Yeah... he would bring it up at least a dozen times in every match... not to mention his "Resilience". I know the commentary is meant to keep the viewers savvy to what's going on and who's who... but damn it just felt like an insult to my intelligence lol. Like, I know he's flamboyant and resilient.... I watch every damn week!!!
Vince was doing his best to put Shawn over since he had planned to make Shawn to be the new face of the company at the time.
Shawn was Vince's pet project

Vince McMahon: HBK Is a Man's Man😂😂So Zisty Vinny McDonald's McChicken was
SummerSlam 95 Ladder Match v Razor Ramon, underrated and in my Top 3 one on one ladder matches w/ WMX & Rumble 2001.
Never been a huge HBK fan, but dude is one of the best to ever do it. Gotta respect his athleticism.
Excellent video!
Just a reminder......Smokey the Cat shirt in Hitman pink would sell at least one shirt...
Sunny Days for sure with this one…🌞 ☀️ 🦵 🙌🏻
😆
Way to make my days @wrestlingbios 🎉
Favorite summerslam match Michael's vs Triple H 2002 great return for Michael's
That opening. Oh my.
Shawn should have 2 more episodes in Best of the Best series.
Really glad to see the Action Zone tag match from '94 included in this list.
Aw man, it was great. The crowd was red hot, which added to the match.
Buzzing happy Tuesday night
The remix of Shawn’s entrance song on this video is better than the original.
He should have put Bulldog over at One Night Only 1997!
I sure miss hbk man. He always made the event and crowd feel more alive and powerful than ever
Many more of my favorites of his are:
Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart - Survivor Series 1992.
Where can I find that version of Sexy Boy at the beginning?
One of the very best to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots
Thank you for being the only person on TH-cam who seems to have any respect for the Iron Man match anymore.
Imma have to go check out that tag match.
Which one, Rockers vs the Brain Busters or the one from Action Zone? Either one is really great
I was referring to the Action Zone one; but you're right, they would both be fun to watch@@TheEman590
Monday night raw HBK vs HHH shortly after Shawn won the title was a great HBK match. Both played off each other real well. I have the match on tape. Also HBK vs Shelton Benjamin with one of the greatest finishes to a match ever!
Psycho Sid's entrance at Survivor Series was so surreal. It was the first time i saw an outright heel in the WWF get an audience reaction like that
Dx vs brothers of destruction in Saudi. Match of the century.
One of my favorites that no one talks about is hbk vs edge on raw. Shawn was bleeding all over and the match was unreal for an episode of raw.
The Rockers vs Orient Express from Royal Rumble 1991 was one of the greatest Tag Team Matches.
