I have been a rabid REK freak fan since I seen him in a bar in College Station Tx in 1989. I had never heard of him but that night it was nuts and butts in the bar so I knew this guy was going to be a game changer!! This was right before I deployed. A fellow Texan who can sing and play the sounds of Texas better than any other. 7500 miles from my home in Texas and the sky is bleeding oil, the sun won't shine and REK songs kept me going on!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I wrote a whole bunch of stuff, and then erased it in error. Damn ! Bottom line, watch out for the nitwits . and those who will never grasp the beauty of this song.
You could possibly still salvage the loss of your work by writing the most meaningful song ever about the incident. Seriously though, that's a crushing loss for a writer, but loss, pain, and the struggle of the soul is what makes great music. "No regrets" Isn't just a cliche saying, but something to truly take to heart. Because all or decisions, good and bad fill up our lifes time line. So now write new songs, but realize that everything you write new could not exist on the same timeline as the ones lost. Oh and this message has been brought to you by psilocybin bye bye now. I'm a quill to paper man myself.
When does the song say he's facing the sunset? If you're speaking about him being in front of the sunset, that would depend on where the person looking at him is standing, and not at all dependent on which way Mariano is facing. If Robert is standing to the East of Mariano, then Robert would see his silhouette against the sun no matter which direction Mariano is facing. You really only succeeded in making yourself sound very stupid. And you posted this in the comments section of every video. So you sound stupid in every thread. Good work.

REK: an expert at nutshelling thoughts into ballads. No-one ever sees this perspective. Beautiful fingerpicking.
My favourite version of this amazingly wonderful song. Thank you for putting this here. Such vivid pictures painted by those lyrics.

Was that at the Dixie Chicken? I'm a lifelong Texan and former resident of Bryan/College Station. I see this man every chance I get
@@ramseydaugherty5515 Or the "Front Porch".
Was in Denton from '90-93. Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett were pounding out great work.
My daughter pulled up this song that she remembered from her childhood
Amazing, I could picture every word
More relevant then ever

Makes me think of a guy that I worked with when I had a summer job on a cattle ranch
Great talent.
my student dentist told me to look up this song
Amazing.
Haunting 💔
people are people
Americans won't pick tomatoes... for 20/hr much less minimum wage.
Texas
Mariano is impossibly both sitting on a rock facing south east and in front of the sunset, which sets in the west

From Robert Earl Keen's perspective Mariano is in front of the sunset, and Mariano is facing the southeast. Its really not that hard to understand.
