Great video. I would add that water bottles cages that allow you to put the bottles in and out from the side are quite essential when using frame bags.
The Wolftooth Morse Cage is a good choice for some frames because the extra holes allow you to mount the cage lower, leaving more room to get the bottles in and out: www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/morse-cage
Lezyne Flow SL cages are a great value IMO. Pair of them for $24 and they hold well while being easy to get your bottle in and out.

@@paulpoletes6341 yes, it's a nice design (something I actually have been searching for, in vain until now), but you still can't get the bottle out from the sides.
I have a medium Revelate Tangle, and it fits perfectly on all my size-56 bikes. I can still fit two water bottles under the bag, and I'm amazed at how much stuff I can fit into the Tangle. On longer trips, I will put a largeish power bank in the Tangle, then run a cord from the battery to my Sinewave Beacon light/USB charger. I also keep a Lezyne Micro Floor Drive pump in the bag, along with food and tools. When mounted on the bike, the left side of the bag is a great place for flatter items like the battery, credit cards, a spoon, zip ties, etc. The right side has the larger compartment, and that's where I keep bulkier items.
Today I bought the "PRO GRAVEL DISCOVER" Framebag (5.5 liter). I have a 58cm Pinarello roadbike, so it will fit perfectly even with some spare space to put the bidon in the holder. I will use it for camera equipment (MFT camera, lens, tripod, batteries and memorycards), biketools, Esbit burner + metal cup, food, wallet and to store a raincoat mainly. Not sure if it will fit when the bag arrives but I will eventually also order a top frame bag as well and move the phone and food into that bag eventually.
For full suspension MTBs I can also recommend the Vaude cruiser bag fits very well and most frames size M or bigger can fit the bag and one bottle cage with a 500ml bottle easy.
I've been using the larger half frame bag from Jandd. They've been around awhile and their stuff is pretty basic but it seems pretty tough. It's not flashy, and kind of looks like it was made in the 90s which is cool in a way. Could fit a larger one though.
I have been unable to decide what framebag I want for my gravel bike. Two many options out there. Thank you for this video!!! I am ordering a medium Outer Shell Half Framebag as soon as my color choice is in stock. 😃
@1972Konaboy wow that wasn't even on my radar. Nice! I like that name too.. solo. Looks like that's a carbon frame. How many miles do you have on it? I went with specialized diverge carbon sport
What bottle cages are on the pink bike? The side load ones. Having trouble with full size 750ml bottle on down tube…getting it in/out with apidura wedge. I’m on a 54 Factor LS
Just started using my first half frame bag as we turn into autumn (NZ) and fitted some Bontrager side mount bottle cages, first judder bar lost my front water bottle :(
I think I have a revelate touring tangle that is even older. It has like no features like customizable fit, compartments or loops for tent poles/ pump, but I just used it on a quick tour a few weeks ago. Still going strong.
Yeah, that was the first one I was holding up but then I got into the new one. It's a classic and I will never get rid of mine. Nice to see yours is still kicking.
I want to get a little frame bag for my full suspension bike just to take some weight out of my camelbak. I'm a big endurance rider and like to go out for a good 6-8 hour rides and sometimes that can be longer.
I can't seems to find a suitable frame bag for my size S Giant Defy Adv Pro. Bought a couple frame bags before and those bags always sat on my water bottles so I have difficulty reaching and retrieve the water bottle while I was pedalling. There also abrasion between the bottle and the bag that increased wear and tear at the bottom of the bag.
Question…. I purchased a half frame bag from Outer Shell and they sent me a camera strap. There is no phone number on their site and I have filled out a contact form letting them know. No response yet. Is there a way to call them? I don’t want to have to go down the road of calling my credit card company to cancel the charge.
Awesome video, my main concerne with these kind of bags is the contact points between straps and frame... Is there any easy way to protect the frame without having toi get a frame protector? maybe an old tube could do the trick? I plan to use it on my new carbon road bike so... ^^
Helicopter tape works. I cringe a bit coving up my gorgeous paint job on my new carbon bike but....tools not jewels and protecting my investment is worth more to me than perfect aesthetics. Just my .02
@@spencergiles72 I believe there are also transparent tapes and tubes outthere you can put on the frame. I am looking at the 3M Scotch Extremium Duct tape in order to protect my frame.
Interesting, I think a lot of that has to do with A. q-factor B. the bags width and how much you stuff in it and finally B. your legs. I've had some rub with some bags, especially on the first day of a bikepacking trip with a packed bag, but I typically don't have that issue.
I'm desperately looking for a smaler wedge like the one from apidura, just to put my tools inside, don't want to have anything on seattube or saddle ..because i want to have the ability to carry and push my bike , anyone a hint ?
My bike frame doesn't allow for most of those bags as my suspension takes up a lot of the space. I got an old mountain bike but I keep it in great order, cleaned after every ride whilst at home or out camping. My bar bag takes the maps, sections of G-maps I expand and print off in sections, supple laminates protect them and placed in a waterproof wallet.
Hi there! I noticed that most of the bags you speak about are not 100% waterproof but only water resistent. Isn't it an issue fo you? Do you ride in dry climates only or a water resistant bag is fine for anything but a monsoon rain, which most of the leisure cyclists won't ride in anyway? I apologize if the question is numb. I'm asking because I don't own a frame bag yet. Maybe I'm just a bit too worried about water! :)
I often ride in very moist conditions, but the problem here is that most of the frame bags made are simply not waterproof. They have zippers, so when submerged, water penetrates, and most are not seam-sealed. I typically don't carry gear that can't get wet in my frame bag for that reason. That being said, if you are looking for a waterproof frame bag, look for a bag that has some sort of welded seams, so no stitching and one that has a roll-top closure. The one that I can think of is the new Ortlieb Frame-Pack
We have hats, T-shirts and more patches coming soon. They will be announced to members first via email, then if there are leftovers, we'll post a Dispatch on the website.
The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
