Artifact of a German soldier. WW1 Metal Detecting

WW1 Metal Detecting. I searched with a metal detector at the site of a WWI military camp. German and Austro-Hungarian troops were in this camp. I found some interesting artifacts. The best find is the identification badge of a German soldier.

Wow, this is awesome! Do you find all this in Ukraine or are you somewhere in Austria or Germany?
I really love how you document finds in the digging videos. You give subtitles and then show an old WW picture where the item can be seen back in its time eg. on the utility belt of a soldier. That puts your finds right in their place in time and history.
Very devoted and respectfull handling of the items. You really seem to know a lot about the WW history with regard to equipment and items on the front.
I am only guessing at what this metal square "bowl" might be. It seemed to hold planks of wood on it's hollow side, right?
I can imagine the following:
- it is the lid of a small crate which housed explosive items. The metal served as moisture protection, the wood as some kind of (spark) protection
- if the metal was on the inside of a crate (this item again being the lid), it might have served as "fire pit", which allowed you to take any treacherous remnants of a camp fire with you and quickly cover a fire and smoke (fire would die inside the box for lack of oxygen)
- it might have served as a seat or foot stand, again the metal protected from moisture and mudd
Dunno if any of these suggestions come near the actual use and purpose, but my fantasy urged me to give a voice to my thoughts 😊
